I'm a world builder. I can't say I come up with original stories or unique ideas, but my passion is creation. I have delved deep into generating a world all my own. Too bad I can't live there.I love reading and sharing and bouncing ideas around, though I have an issue with the deviantart culture. Not all of you. In fact, most of you are amazing, fantastic people. But one bad apple spoils the bunch and I'm not one to be very... hrm... tolerant?

"Favoritingβ¦ Watchingβ¦ Commentingβ¦ Dailies... Long ago, everyone posted peacefully on DeviantArt. Then, everything changed when Avatar: The Last Air Bender was shown. Only the Deviants, masters of art in all its forms, could improve it, but when the show ended, they vanished. A couple of years passed and the world was shown the new show, Avatar: The Legend of Korra. And although the show rekindled the Deviants creativity, it was only fan art. But I believe Avield can explain the whole worldβ¦"

My columns go like this:
Country - City name - Total population - Men - Women - Military-age men - Total military
Then, I used some math from this page to figure out typical city populations: [link]
Once I did that, I put in some semi-random numbers for town populations according to the guidelines from that page I linked you to. The rest is just formulas. For the "Men" column, it's something like "=E3*.48", where E3 would be the total in the "Population" column for the same city, rounding up to the nearest whole number. For "Women", make that cell "=E3-E4".
"Military-age" would be "=E4*.659", since statistics I found in a census indicated that about 65.9% of the male population falls within the ages of 16 and 60, the typical age for men to be eligible for the military. The regulation for 18 years old started somewhere around WWI, I believe.
"Total military" is usually around 1% of a given population, but that's a variable depending on the culture in question. More militaristic nations could have upwards of 3%, but nomadic tribes could count everyone old enough to hold a sword. For that, I used "=E3*.01", taking into consideration that the percentage can change.
I also used this to figure out economic priorities, which is where it kinda gets complicated. A typical kingdom might have thousands of little villages, which could house a majority of the population. To figure out this number, I used "=SUM(total population for all major cities)-(SUM(major cities)*(inverse of rural population %))" For the rural population percentage, a more agrarian nation could have around 60% of its citizens in farming villages. In that case, the formula would look like "=SUM(major cities)-(SUM(major cities)*.4)
After that, just make rows to find the sum of these different columns, and you're finally done! Well, for one country at least...
