I have to rewrite Oedipus the King with an alternative ending for an English project. Ironic that this is on Mother's Day's weekend. I chose to do this instead of a boring test.

Some kind of successful rebellion against fate, I know that. I'm not a fan of stories where the protagonist is at the center of some divine prophecy. I don't like the implications of destiny regarding agency for our actions and ability to change our circumstances. Like, "It's my fault I killed an innocent person and stole money, it was fate!" or "It's not my fault I'm a lazy, unemployed leech, the Gods wanted me this way!" Also, it's much more compelling to see people rise to the occasion because of their own motivations in a story and not because everything was planned out in-universe from the start. I say in-universe because of course everything is planned out by an author.

Oedepus decides to defy the fates to try and free his shackles bound to his existence, to live as he wishes.

It's all very confusing, the whole thing about fate. Are only certain things predetermined? Is everything predetermined? Did the fates give Oedipus and his parents this tragic destiny because they knew these people would defy them? Are the acts of defiance apart of their destiny too? Even if the actions leading up to what the prophecy predicts are entirely of the free will of the person at the center, it's still futile because the ending is set in stone.

It's good I'm talking about this because I have to answer an essential question and a few of them are related to this.

It would explain why everything is so confusingly vague.

I remember learning in my Greek mythos unit in middle school that these oracles were constantly doped on opium. I'll have to look it up again, I might make it apparent in my rewrite that the Apollo oracle was up in some poppy seed smoke.

I'm down the shore now. My parents and I weren't afraid of the hurricane, and rightfully so; nothing's happening to our shore. We return on Monday, and Tuesday is the first day of my senior year. I only need to be there for three hours and I'm gonna love it. Some time later I'll have my job situated.

Fine. I finished my film class and we had our premiere and dinner at Denny's (yay). They haven't posted any of our videos yet. They posted the opening for the premiere and a commercial we made for the talent show, but that's it. The YouTube channel's name is mainstagefilm, if you want to check them out. There's some other funny ones too from previous years. I recommend The Space Person, the 2015 opening, and The Beanstalk and Jack. Fair warning, some videos have some inside jokes.

I'm glad that I can have a break now. In other news I submitted my first application ever for my potential first job ever at a movie theatre.

My short film is going to be called "Chatty Cat Saves One Kid". It was inspired by Cool Cat, Kenny the Shark, and A Talking Cat!?! That's all I'll say.
