# About me

Hi.

For the moment I've mostly got stuff I've handcrafted in my gallery, like pottery.

I've seen some people who say that you should only post your best finished work in your gallery, but I am not a professional and this is not a portfolio. I like having a DA gallery that I treat as a scrap book.

Heeeeeeey it's the fedora man!   I'd forgotten that you do pottery.  I don't think I've ever gotten to see your finished work, so I'm gonna go browse, yes/yes?

It's been a while since I actually have done anything. They shut down the studio for renovations at the beginning of the (2013) summer. It reopened in the fall, but I haven't actually been back.

I see.  That's too bad. :/  You should go!  If they renovated it, it's sure to be awesome.

Thanks for the welcome. Great-looking ceramics, especially the horsehair. They always turn out so beautifully.

No problem. They're really good diagrams. I try to start drawing with a sort of wire frame, but I can never flesh it out right. Your box thing is much smarter.

Look into massing from the "Great Masters", ei. Michaelangelo, Raphael, and all those others guys for there life drawing sketches. A good book to look up it Beverly Hales "Lessons from the Great Masters" It walks through a couple of different different ways to approach the figure. You might even be able to download a PDF or find it at a library.

You look like an aspiring ceramic artist. How long have you been working with clay? And do you do this in a class or do you have your own studio with kiln?

I started taking some beginner's pottery wheel classes in 2005, I think. At a little art center. That was while I was still in High School. Now I make stuff in the Craft Center at my University's student center.

But I'm not much of an artist; I'm actually studying engineering. All the pottery I do is just for fun.

still, doing it just for fun, you're doing fairly well. have a favorite clay to work with? i personally liked working with bee mix, a semi porcelain/stone wear mix.

It seems like every time I get a new bag of clay I say to myself "man, this is the best stuff, I should use this all the time" and then by the end of it I never want to use it again.

The only stuff that I never get tired of, strangely enough, is the free clay they make at the Craft Center by reconstituting leftover and messed up scraps. It comes out of bisque pink, but after high fire it has a generic tan spec look and texture that I really love.

I just wish they would make more of it. They don't get around to making it very often, and it always seems to run out fast.
