The renderings are awesome. Just curious, did you teach yourself or did you go to school for this?

A little of both.
I first went to a community college to learn Maya or Max, but the teacher decided to teach Cinema3D on Trial Versions (where you couldn't save what you made) and she didn't even know how to USE the program. So- I played around in Maya while she was learning/ teaching.
I later went to a technical school to learn Maya better and did well, but during that time EVERY college in America decided to start teaching it, and the job market got flooded with 3d artist.
The main thing for modeling is to know your subject well: learning the program just teaches you where buttons are and what they do, it won't teach you to be a good modeler or animator.

Ah, thank you for such an in depth answer. I was curious because I am planning to go to school for animation sometime in the future. Although I want 2D animation it seems all the jobs in the category requires you to know 3D as well.

Another important suggestion if you plan to do 3D Animation: be prepared to move.
Unless you already live in California, you will be hard pressed to find a job doing 3D animation (unless you count animating logos and names.) All but a handful of companies are in Cali and even freelance jobs want you in office.
As for 2D animation jobs: do you know of any companies in the USA that still do them? I honestly don't. :sadness:
I hope I don't make it all sound "Doom and Gloom", but it isn't an easy career choice to be in, and many people I know who went to learn animation, both 2D and 3D, are still looking for jobs. One person I know who went to college to do 2D animation and right after graduation was told by his professor to "get a 9-5 job and paint pictures of peoples pets on the side."

Yeah, I've already noticed all animation gigs are mainly in Cali. Don't worry it doesn't sound all doom and gloom , I've already noticed all of this. However, animation is what I honestly want to do, so I really don't mind if I have to do it in a medium that would not be my first pick. I am certain that after I have learned how to use whatever medium I have to do to animate I will enjoy it. I already find 3D animation amazing the only problem is I don't really know much about it (at the current moment,I have been looking into it). Plus, I might as well try to do the thing I want before I decide to give up on it.

I'm a bit late in welcoming you to the community, but welcome, regardless; we're honoured to have such a talented modeller among us! I really like the Japanese mythology character designs; you clearly know your way around Maya (or whichever program you use).

Thats ok: I'm a bit late in replying to them!
Mythology is one of my favorite subjects; I would like to learn all I can about every cultures mythological creatures!
You are correct; I use Maya!
Thanks again!
