What is DC?
DC is a comic book publishing company founded by Major Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson in 1934.
DC was originally called National Allied Publications. The Initials DC come from Detective Comics, a popular series by Malcom Wheeler-Nicholson.
Ancient History
In 1935, National Allied Publications launched NEW FUN COMICS, the first ever comic book that consisted entirely of previously unseen material, whereas other comic magazines published strips that had already been featured in newspapers and tabloids. New Fun Comics, which had undergone several name changes within the decade, was canceled in 1947 after 127 issues.
Detective Comics first issue was released in 1937, it was the final publication by Wheeler-Nicholson. It is unsure what happened to NAP after that, some say that Wheeler Nicholson sold the company to his colleague Henry Donenfeld. Others say Donenfeld sent Wheeler-Nicholson on a cruise with his wife to think of new ideas, and he came home to find that Donenfeld had taken over the company and was suing him for nonpayment.
The fourth publication by NAP was Action Comics - where famed hero Superman made his debut in Issue #1. Superman was created by artist Joe Shuster and writer Jerry Siegel. Superman, for lack of a better phrase, raked in the cash for NAP. Superman merchanise swept the country and he even had his own radio show. By the end of 1941 Donenfeld's comic business took in $2.6 million.
Henry Donenfeld died at a care home in 1965.

hi there!
i am interested in entering the DC fanclub's magazine cover contest, but i need to ask you one question: where it says no original characters, does this mean i cannot include the likes of batman, superman, wonder woman in my art?

No, original characters (or OCs) refers to characters that people make up by themselves (for fanfiction and art, etc..) and aren't officially published by DC.
