Oh, the special effects? Ah, they're not really anything special. In fact, anyone can make them. You just have to know the right keywords and stuff to type in order to make them. If it's help with emoticons and flashy things that you want, I'll give you a few tips, my friend:

EMOTICONS AND OTHER DANDY IMAGES:

To make an emoticon, you just need to type in the proper words into pairs of colons ( : ). (Look through the Emoticon Legend to see an entire archive of Emoticons you can use by typing certain words and terms. The Legend should appear when you want to post a comment on something.) For one example, if you want to express your love for fighting ninjas, you could type the keyword "ninjabattle" and place it between two ":". Do that and you get this:

If you want to express to your friends that you're very busy on the computer, and you don't have time for anything else at the moment, type the keyword "typerhappy" and, once again, insert in between the two ":". This should be your result:

If you're simply awed by a deviant's amazing work on a deviation, type the word "wow" between two colons. You'll get this:

If someone on DeviantART really pisses you off, type "stfu" in the colons, and you'll get this angry little guy:



However, some emoticons don't follow the "two colon rule." Putting a ":" with a "?" would result in . With a "X" and a "D" together in the colons, you end up with . And putting a ";" with a "P" would result in . And also, placing a ":" next to an "X" would end up like this: This also applies with an emoticon as simple as this: , , , and .

For example, to make a simple Happy Face emoticon, you simply type in a colon ( : ) and a capital D together. When you post a comment with the smiley, it should appear like this: But you can also do the same thing typing an equal sign ( = ) and a capital D as well.

A Sad Face is also done in a similar fashion. Just replace that capital D with a "(".

But as for the stars and icon-making, it's pretty easy to do, really. To put it simply, stars are made by putting the word "star" in between two ":"

:star : = (just avoid putting any spaces, I had to place that space there for this presentation)

The same thing can be accomplished with other catchy pics like cookies or hearts or ninjas (yes, ninjas). Just put the word between two colons, and a picture of what you expect will most likely pop up in your comment.

DEVIANT ICON MAKING

Like the "two-colon emoticons", you need to type in the words needed to make a picture of the deviant's icon, as well as the link to his-her page. First, type two ":". Put the cursor between them. Then, type "icon", and insert a deviant's username along with it. Be sure you type in the name exactly how its spelled and typed. One mistake will totally ruin it, and it won't register the deviant's avatar if you mispell the name. Just follow this:

:iconthelegendarykeyblade : = (avoid spaces, since I just did it to show you how to do this.)

And to make the name of a deviant into a link to his/her main page, replace the word "icon" with "dev." Look here:

:devthelegendarykeyblade : = ~TheLegendaryKeyblade (once again, avoid spaces and spelling mistakes)

BOLDING, ITALICIZING, AND UNDERLINING TEXT

Changing the appearance of text is all about using the <>'s. There are several types like:

[< b >, < i >, and < u >]

There are a bunch of other ones too, these three are just the basic types. Avoid spaces too. Here's an example of story text using the text changers:

Sora looked around himself, and only saw darkness. He had tried calling for his friends, but no one replied. Suddenly, a dark, sinister voice whispered in his ear:

< i > Keybearer...The strength of the Keyblade...shall come to fall...on its knees. Darkness shall rise to power, and the Realm of Light shall fall. A new world order shall shake the earth with fear, and strike down all that oppose it. Everything you know...is about to disappear forever... < /i >

Sora nearly leapt and swung his arm out to call forth his Keyblade. He turned around to come face-to-face with a tall man, shrouded in the sheer blackness of night. His face was hidden by an all too familiar black hood.

< b > "WHO ARE YOU!?!?" < /b >, Sora shouted angrily at the mysterious enigma.

The man held out his hand, and dark magic began to spark and swirl about his fingers. In a bright flash, a large massive rod of death appeared in his hand. At the tip of the rod, a fearsome sharp blade rested along it. Finally, the man responded with a cry of fury, as energy surged in his cloaked body.

no it involes fan-fic.
the question is do you do it on word and then save it and then.....i guess my hole question is how do you get it up? i mean i saw the litrature thing on the submit deviations, but do you have to make the fan-fic in word and then post it up or is there a place on deviant that you do it?

So let me see if I have this right: You want to know if you have to write fan-fictions on Microsoft Word (first) in order to have them saved and written up? And then you want to know how to post it on DeviantART? (I'm guessing you haven't done fan-fictions before?)

Well, this is normally what I do when I write fan-fictions before posting. So yes, it would be a smart idea to start writing your stories on a Microsoft Word Doc. When you work on it, make sure you click Save every 12 minutes (but to avoid losing anything important, should there be any problems, it's really best you save your progress after every 1 or 2 completed sentences).

Once you finish your work, and you think it's ready for the general public to see, go to DeviantART and click on "Submit Deviation." There, you should see some things asking you to fill in stuff like "Deviation Name" and "Category" and "Author's Comments." Just fill out the important stuff like you normally would for image deviations.

At the part where it asks you which file you want to submit, there are two options: "Add a File" (for images and flash animations) and "Add Text" (for pieces involving text).

Of course, you want to post a fan-fic for everyone to see, so choose "Add Text." A big white box should appear, and it'll ask you to insert your text. If you have your finished story with you, open that up, copy everything from it, and paste it all into that white box.

Press OK and give your computer some time to process the data. If all goes well, and a tiny preview of your text shows up in a little gray box, then you can press Submit at the bottom, and it'll show you what your stuff looks like.

I think that pretty much covers it. I hope. Just make sure your stuff equals to less than 64 KB of data, because it won't accept anything past that limit.
