I don't offend easy, but let me tell you why I think how I think. And I hope I don't offend you either.
OK, first of all, poetry is used to express oneself, correct? That's personally how I feel about it, myself and many of my friends (and other people) use it this way.
Yes, you're right. People do write to express themselves. Nowhere did I say they didn't. Nothing is wrong with writing for expression, but having it come out sounding like a journal entry is what's been falling upond this website like a plague.
No one can really know if other people are going to actually like their poetry, becuase no one I know is a mind reader, and besides, most people write for themselves, most people don't write something for people. They choose to post it here because they like it and want feed back on it.
No, nobody is going to know if anybody likes their poetry. Nothing wrong with that. And there is nothing wrong with the people who don't like it. Most people write for themselves? Yes, but saying they don't write for others is where the problem lies. If you don't consider your audience, where is your poetry going to get you? If you don't care about what people think, why post it on a website where others can read it?
If it does genuinlly suck, then writing, posting and getting feed back, is the only way to improve.

Poetry isn't about the words looking " neat". It's about the depth, meaning and way it's said that matters. I never have once been rude in a comment. My submission was pretty polite, I think. And yes, there are rules to poetry. Not many, but they are there. Most people just choose to ignore them.
No one is forcing you to read this stuff, it's completely of your own free will. You can't ask people to stop submitting things that are imporant to them. Punctuation in another thing, people don't need to use commas etc. if they don't feel like it. I'm sorry if it's a personal problem of yours, but it's not anyone elses. I'm sorry if you don't like our crappy poetry, so as far as i'm concerned, don't read it.
Yeah, no one is forcing me to read anything but the fact is, it's here and I can't find a way around it. No, I can't ask people to stop submitting things that are important to them but I can try and help them improve so it's somewhat manageable to those of us who are trying to better the writing community. The punctuation thing is a personal thing, which is why I stated so.
Just because I don't like something, doesn't mean I shouldn't read it. And how can I not when the majority of the poetry here will be, and always will be, something that I dislike. Am I supposed to always ignore things I don't like? When you submit here you are open to all comments, good and bad. If you don't like the bad comments, then take your own advice and don't read it.

You're right about the journal like entries for sure, if someone posts something that just describes exactly how they feel and what they did without any poeticalness (haha so not a word) at all, then yeah, they shouldn't post it.
I also agree with the computer lingo, it's fine with me if it's used in comments, but it should be totally left out of poetry, use real words.
MOST people write for themselves, but then want to see what other people think. I do realize that if they post things, they're material is automatically subject to anything. I wished that people had the decency to criticize, not bash others work, but many humans today aren't like that. oh well.
Poetry can totally be about looking neat, I mean, it's not ANYWHERE near the essence of poetry, but why do you think shape poems were invented? Obviously you can't write in a circle on the DA, but if you could, some people might think it'd would really help to show it off, prove a point or emphasize it. Rules for poetry? Hmm... well I suppose some of that depends on the style of poetry, Haikus and what not, but free style doesn't really, but then again everyone has their own thoughts on "how it's done".
If you find yourself reading a poem that is to your disliking, stop. If you're having trouble finding someone who is worthy of your eyes, then ask around, look at people's favorites, someone who's a good poet generally leaves good constructive comments on other people's poetry. If your goal is to help people with their poetry, then by all means continue to do so. According to you, it won't be a problem because there's so much to fix.
