Hello there,
i just came across your profile and i saw that you cosplayed also. Now for the next cons i'm going for a Lord of the rings-outfit. But i need a scabbard to cover my sword?
Do you know away to make one? The sword is rather heavy.(please be aware that my crafting skill is low, so carving wood would be hard to be honest)

well. if wood is out...
i would say get some cardboard and form it around the sword as tight as you can. tape up the cardboard so it doesnt move when you remove the sword and remove the sword. paper mache all around the cardboard.
(if the cardboard is proving to be too tricky. put a few layers of dry newspaper over the blade and then start paper mache'ing with the blade still inside the paper.)
make sure you do a few coats of the paper mache. like... let it dry. then do it again. let it dry. then do it again. for a pretty good thickness. when the sword is in the scabbard you dont want to feel it bending the scabbard with its weight at all.
after you have it sturdy. use some hand sand paper or very fine grit, and sand down the paper a little to smooth it. if this is not working well. grab a paint primer. doesnt matter what color. youll be painting over it. primers help hide things. put on a few layers of this until you can no longer see ridges very distinctly.
after that. paint it as you will.

I think I have a better idea of what Mat's raven spear looks like. It describes it as basically a long, black hafted spear with a slightly curved shortsword blade on the end; that makes it sound most like a naginata, and the raven pattern can be found in some of the chapter headings. As for how the Old Tongue script is supposed to look, I haven't the slightest idea.
