Not at all
You said you're not much into Kili, what about his brother then? Or both of them are not your type? I'm really curious!

I think Fili is quite cute, in a boyish way. Don't know how to put this, but he has a bit more... face than his brother. I have no problem if a man has a female touch of beauty but there has to be a little flaw, too. All those totally smooth Kili-Legolas guys are okay, but not my type, even when I still was a teenager I thought they were boring - maybe that comes because I'm such a babyface myself. Aidan Turner is the only dwarf who's younger than me, by the way, that might count, too.

Totally agree on this. Though I think Kili's got much more masculinity to him than Legolas and other glossy elven guys with that mirror-smooth shiny hair and porcelain-doll-like faces, but still I find Fili more attractive too. Good to find somebody who shares this opinion (all my friends seem to see no one and nothing but Kili in the movie)
P.S. Lots of people like the idea of Legolas and Kili (and Bard) having an archery contest at some point in the movie, but I personally can't stop thinking they rather have a beauty contest...))

Sometimes I think many people just consider pretty what someone tells them to be pretty: This is Kili/Legolas, the poster boy, you have to like him! I have to think about a scene in the Simpsons where Lisa reads a teen magazine: "Non-Threatening Boys" - that nails it.
I like faces that may not be really pretty at first side but grow beauty the longer you look at them - where attractiveness comes mostly from inside to outside. Those are also the people who get more attractive with age.
But I must admit I do like Thranduil, though he quite looks a bit like a porcelain boy grown too tall, but since he has a touch of darkness around him, it's somehow interesting again.
The big beauty contest: Babyface of the Third Age! If you have any laughter lines, piss off!

Probably you're right... It's kind of safe to like Legolas: everybody think he's irresistible, so you're not risking to hear some nasty things about your total lack of reason and perception of beauty if you start squeaking the moment he appears on the screen I agree completely with what you said about people who need looking at them to see them for real. A pretty dwarvish comparison just popped into my mind: the same goes for jewellery. Fake diamonds glitter so bright you can't possibly miss them, but the real thing takes looking closely and appears much more beautiful after all.
Well, Thranduil has something about him, yes, but in this clash of kings we're going to witness in the DoS I'd choose Thorin
Hah, this contest has to be multinational! Hobbits should opt for Frodo as their candidate, but what about men?..
Oh, and the orks! What about the orks? The goblin scribe from the first movie?))

True! And many people also have just a weird taste.
Of course, but I'd choose Thorin anyway, no matter whom he clashes with, ahem.
Frodo's such a thing. He's looks like a baby, but when he has his mental moments it's a similar effect as with Thranduil, that might disqualify him. Men... I actually can't think of a babyfaced man in LotR. Hobbit's Bard maybe, if he stops shouting at people. Oh yes, the scribe, such a lovely little...thing...*cough* And one of the trolls...

Thorny-lily In reply to wolfanita [2013-10-08 19:02:33 +0000 UTC]
Oh yes. I'm afraid I'd choose fictional Thorin over any living man to be found in the world... Oh my. And I'm calling myself a grown up...
Yes, Frodo's not that simple, and I remember being totally smitten with him at the time when I had not yet started calling myself an adult. A great choice of actor there, his innocent looks make his fate so much more dramatic.
So, the men are officially disqualified then, for being far too... manly Ah yes, the trolls! I'd go for the one with the hanky!

Don't tell me - love at first sight, and I loathed him in the book, it's embarrassing... But that's what keeps your soul young, true, innocent enthusiasm!
Hehe, Elijah Wood is about six months older than me, and we both don't look like it, that connects somehow. Indeed, I think he's best when he's insane.
Ah yes, that's Tom, I think (aka Bifur). He has the bonus of being cross-eyed, some weird people consider that as cute.

I didn't like him in the book either, until the very end, but his last words spoken to Bilbo made me change my mind a bit... But then there came a line about the death of Fili and Kili and I got distracted from Thorin to mourn over them Still remember how it hurt even at the age of 9 and even with no sympathy for Thorin Don't really know how I'm supposed to go through the third movie...
So, we've chosen all the candidates then!

Ah yes, that: "By the way, Fili and Kili are also dead, and oh, they where Thorin's nephews!" I had to re-read that, it was so abrupt. My older brother read the Hobbit when I was a child, and the cover illustration (a chubby cross-eyed Smaug and an ugly Bilbo wearing a top hat dancing around him) was so horrible (for me), that I didn't want to read it. I read LotR about a year before the movies were released and thought, I really should also read the Hobbit now, but I didn't till I'd watched the first movie. I was already twenty then and I really wish I'd read it as child, too, it would have been something completely different. But that horrible cover...!
Yes, the third movie will be hard - when I think what they made out of the death of Boromir in LotR, I have the feeling there's a lot of snot and tears coming up...
Maybe we should hold this contest in public, though I'm afraid the Kili/Legolas fraction will finally kill me, then.

Oh, yesss, awful covers of Tolkien's books is nothing short of the eighth deadly sin! I have something horrid drawn on my LotR books covers (something abstract, kind of an ugly mosaic depicting what must be Aragorn's coronation, as I got it) and so I keep poor books wrapped in some handmade covers to hide this nightmarish designs
I had the Hobbit read to me and my cousin by my aunt when I was around 9, and that was wonderful. She didn't finish the book for us, and we had only one issue of the book to share, and so we had a competition: the one who's the first to be done with her school reading list, will be the one to finish 'The Hobbit' first I won, and then LotR books followed...And I was lost
Well, maybe you should draw something about such a contest? Even Kili/legolas fraction would have no choice but to forgive you, for your humour is worth having these two beauty kings insulted a bit

Ah yes, I think I have seen a similar cover, that psychedelic 70ies stuff. My LotR books are in a poisonous green with the ring and a with every part changing eye looking through it, but I bought a really pretty edition with covers made by John Howe when the movies were released and an English Hobbit edition illustrated by Alan Lee this year.
Hehe, that's cute. And what a wonderful thought; children fighting over a book instead of a remote control.
Thank you, but I'm afraid some may take it the wrong way if I drew something like that. Or worse, they might think I share their opinion and I'll get "overkilied" for the rest of my life...

Oh yes, I have seen that design. A good one, this, much better that many I see on the bookshelves now! And that Hobbit edition is in my Christmas wish-list. I'm so going to present it to myself!
Hah, we were two very bookwarm-ish kids
Probably you're right. Anyway, that doesn't even matter what and who you draw, I always feel a surge of joyful anticipation every time there's something new from you here on DA.

We where, too. Though we watched a lot of movies, too.
Thank you!
