I have been gone for a long time

I may have mentioned some of this before, but a review of the last few years is in order ...

About three years ago I slid into a deep depression ... not just a "wow, this sucks" period, but clinical depression. It is very likely that this was triggered by my trying to avoid dealing with certain personal issues ... issues I've been blogging about for the past year.

Depression led to insomnia ... insomnia led to anxiety ... I was not functioning.

I still did not admit that I was having issues. I hid the truth ... or tried to. After several months of an ugly downward spiral I finally went to the doctor to get something to help me sleep. I needed sleep. I had gone 7 days with only 2 hours sleep ... maybe I had 12 hours of sleep in a month. But none of it was real sleep ... it was interrupted by horrible dreams ... nightmares.

I was so sleep deprived that I began having dreams while I was awake ... not hallucinations, dreams while awake ... while talking on the phone ... while working on the computer.

I pulled myself off every safety sensitive job I was involved with and talked to my manager.

She understood ... she supported me ... I sought help.

It took a long time ... time, therapy and medication just to stop the spiral. But stopping the spiral did not force me to deal with my issues.

My secret.

Myself.

A little more than a year ago I went back into therapy ... I decided to face the truth.

I am transgender.

I have been slowly transitioning for 2 years or more ... but only minor changes. I soon discovered that changing my wardrobe, wearing earrings, growing my hair long was not enough ... I needed to change me.

I began hormone therapy on May 31 at 4:06 p.m.

I realize not everyone will condone my decision to transition to female. I realize that some may delete me as a friend ... but I hope not. I hope people realize that I am the same person I was yesterday ... last month ... last year.

I'm sorry I did'n leave you a note. The fact that you contacted me says a lot for you.

In short I have been away from DA for quite a while. I belong to far too many groups and am trying to narrow the list to a select few. I have not take many food pics lately so leaving most of the food groups made sense to me ... it is nothing about your group specifically.

If my schedule opens up, or I start taking food pics on a regular basis again I would appreciate being able to rejoin.
