NINTENDO SWITCH PRESENTATION HYPE IN A FEW HOURS

Well, I just finished watching it. And you?

Scriva In reply to Timesplatter [2017-01-13 21:10:14 +0000 UTC]
Omg yes! I'm kinda speechless tbh xD Aside from the fact that Nintendo are absolute trolls making us wait to the very last second, when we're supposed to the presentation is over. And I thought Xenoblade 2 and Fire Emblems Warriors was looking interesting, but then I see this...
It was so unbelievably hype that I can't even. Where to start? The confused but hopeful display as their world was being shown at the start, so prettyyyy xD The epic music build up (I told you I'm a sucker for piano stuff too), Link riding some weird but cool looking thing on the sand and fighting some interesting whale thingy, the revelation of ZELDA (what did you think of her design?), the fact that she kinda looks like someone who is set out to go for an adventure and possibly accompany you for at least awhile, the fact that this was the most emotion I've ever seen her show, and the voice acting? The fact that she and Link looked pretty beat up made the game look more dark/realistic (which I love lol) and yet still manages to keep that SS cartoonyish feel, but to another level. The showcasing of the Zora, possibly some Gerudo girl, possibly the Deku Tree, etc? The absolute need to figure out where in the timeline this is, seeing all the OoT hints?
And now the best part is figuring out where I'm gonna pull 300+ dollars out of my rear, especially with that bundle of accessories includedΒ

Right, when I watched it I was worried that they weren't gonna show anything of Zelda, but then BAM it became pretty much the highlight.
But even if they didn't show it Super Mario Odyssey looks amazing. I thought how could they possibly go up from Galaxy, but they sure showed me.
Fire Emblem Warriors is pretty hype too even though I'm not the biggest FE fan. Unexpected but not unwelcome. Btw there's gonna be a Fire Emblem Direct on the 18th of January, chances are they're gonna expand on it there.
I'd say here's hoping mah boi Roy's gonna join the roster and kick even more ass, but he's probably in there.
Man oh man that trailer was phenomenal. The music was top notch as always, started out somber but then turned epic real quick.
The trailer gets me so hyped I probably miss half the hints in it xD
I'm gonna be so busy watching all those analysis of the trailer it's not even funny.
Gorons and Zoras confirmed. Btw the Goron and the smaller Zora (girl?) wear the same sash as Falco Β which does look suspiciously similar to Link's Champion Shirt which is said is only given to those close to the Royal Family. Chances are they are supporters of the crown and something akin to the Sages from previous games. Goron guy seems like guy who'd be a cool companion.
Girl who was obviously Zelda is obviously revealed as Zelda, no real surprise there, except that they reveal her so quickly after hiding her face in the previous trailer.
About Zelda's design : It's good, but different than what I imagined. From what I glimpsed I thought she was gonna be a serious badass warrior princess, but then she has those big puppy eyes xD
Her hair (in her traveler outfit) is something I have get used to. It looks fine when she's in her white dress, but in her adventure outfit she has those braids that look kinda weird. Overall I like it, I bet she's gonna look better when in action.
And it does appear that the game puts an emphasis on her and Link's relationship. More chances that she's a companion.
In one part of the boxart you can actually see her trying to pull out the Master-Sword, we know she can hold it in TWW at least, perhaps she could do it here too, but perhaps any village idiot can use it after it's drawn who knows. But Zelda better not be getting her butt kicked all game long.
The cutscnes are very cinematic and scream darker, epic story, no complaints here.
About the voice acting: what do you think so far? I just found out that it'll be localized, there's a German and a Japanese version for example. Don't know which I prefer though, they all have different pros and cons, I like English Zelda the best, but I think old lady is best in Japanese and old man is best in German. Either way I hope they enable us to listen in other languages. I'd probably listen to it in Japanese 'cause I'm a weeabo purist trash xD
The Deku Tree seems to have a prominent role in the game and he's seen behind the Master-Sword, can't wait for him to tell us the truth of Link's origin once again.
The characters in general just seem so interesting in this game, from Falco to sad-Zelda.
Plus, there will be twoΒ more Amiibo based on the game, Zelda and a Bokoblin. And a Special Edition and a Master Edition of the game . All this shit in less than two months! Nintendo might as well just rob us blind.
Luckily, I do have enough money though.

Yeah it was so different seeing Mario in a realistic city environment, and then there are places that make you think of some kind of candy world, mixed with Mario Sunshine, a forest, etc. I laughed at the Bowser and Peach wedding posted lol. The textures look so feathery, you can actually see Mario's mustache hair and the plushness of the hats xD
I'm not a huge FE fan either (to be fair I never played the games), but I also have a Smash character bias like you with Roy. Still, curious to see how the game turns out after having played HW, though I wonder if the characters will feel more unique-ish in comparison since most of them seem to be sword-users. I have no doubt that all the FE Smash characters will be included in the game too.
Oh don't feel bad, i know I missed a ton of stuff from the BotW trailer too when I was caught up in my excitement. I rewatched it several times and picked up on more hints, and as you said, I too am looking forward to hearing some analysis videos. I already saw HMK's analysis, waiting on GameXplain now.
I thought of the sages as well when I saw the Goron and the Zora (I have no idea on its gender either, especially after what we've seen of Prince Rallis from TP). Not to mention RED Zoras? Never saw that coming! The Goron guy looks like he's a cheerful, funny type of character yeah, and nice spot on with the blue sashes. It's weird cause in the manga of Hyrule Historia, Link's sash was red, and I only ever remember seeing it blue in HW lol. I really can't help but notice some semblance to HW, not just with the blue sash, but the palm trees in the desert area (HMK'S ANALYSIS SHOWS THERE'S ACTUALLY A CITY IN THE DESERT TOO I GOT SO HYPED).
Yupyup, many people's speculations that the girl was Zelda was correct. There also seems to be speculation that Link died in this game, or at least, in the past, and that's why Zelda is trying to 'fix' everything or try to restore it somehow, and probably explains one of the reasons she looks so devastated (which could be huge spoilers they had shown which surprises me) but I'm not complaining. i don't mind her new look in either her traveling outfit or 'Hylia-esque' ones. I like that her hair is more 'down' too. I think the braids around the head thing is kind of symbolic of a hair style that might be intended as a 'crown' which would kind of fit her 'princess' image that we know of her, even if she ends up never being referenced as one, such as in SS.
Honestly I'm just kinda eager that there is voice acting at all, so I don't really have a preference. I'd most likely listen to it in English, at least on my first playthrough. I can't really distinguish between the voices of the Deku Tree and Zelda's father sometimes, but I imagine the Deku Tree to have that deep, wise voice, and the king too, maybe a little more humanly idk. Zelda's voice sounds more mature in the English, and more distressed in the German, and more anime in the Japanese.
Maybe Mr.Falco isn't a bad guy, if he has the same sash as the other 'sages' had, but who knows, he could have been coerced by Calamity Ganon. I saw saw briefly, Calamity Ganon's face and it kind of reminds me of the Imprisoned + with a more draconic head idk.Β
I saw the amiibos, and I'd want them even for collection, not just for use in game xD and of course I would love the bundle. But damn it you're right, if they had given us more of a head start, we'd be better prepared for spending. Nice that you can get it though, I was always under the impression that gaming stuff was ridiculously expensive in Europe.

All that detail but he doesn't have a neck xD
When I saw Bowser dressed like that my first thought was "Bowser looks like a pimp"
Yeah, most of the FE cast has the same weapons. How are they gonna deal with that? Especially in the older games the characters all had the same fighting style when they shared a class. Roy at least has a fire sword, Marth got established as an elegant fighter, Ike and Chrom are kinda brute-ish. There aren't many characters with a distinguished style in FE.
I think the Smash represantatives are guarantueed to get a place.
Also forgot that Lyndis defintely needs to get in as well.
lol I feels sorry for GameXplain, their analysis machine will crash xD
HMK's analasys is almost an hour long, still have to watch that.
I love how the Zoras look in this game. Their weird heads now look like fish profile.
The Gerudo finally have a real home, what is this madness?
Funny, Hyrule is destroyed but the Gerudo are seemingly barely affected, just goes to show how shitty they have it xD
Yeah, he did wake up in the Shrine of Resurection, but wether it's actually coming back to life or meant more spiritually I don't know.
From what I can piece together it looks like this:
- Before the 100 year skip Link's a close asociate of the Royal Family , perhaps he's even saved Hyrule before.
- Ganon strikes better than ever, manipulates the Guardians to attack Hyrule
- Link manages to escape with Zelda (bonus: the king exiles himself and reappears as the old man) to some forest
- Ganon/ The Guardians hunt them
- Zelda's getting all depressed and stuff, Link tries to survive
- Link get's rekt by the Guardians, Zelda tries to protect him
- Link either dies anyway or his injuries are too severe to continue so Zelda puts him into the healing chamber and sets up everything for his return
- She resists against Ganon and somehow manages to seal him and herself in Hyrule Castle to buy time so Link can defeat him later
- After 100 years Link wakes up, Zelda contacts him to stop Ganon once and for all
- Link recollects his memories
- At some point Ganon escapes anyway which also frees Zelda
- Link and Zelda teamp up again to take him down
But hey that's just a theory, a game theory, thanks for watching. Or it's all wrong idk.
You might have a point about the hair.
Yeah, I have trouble telling the old guy voices appart xD
With Japanese voices this will be like the Zelda movie by Studio Ghibli I always dreamed of.
Yeah, Falco doesn't seem antagonistic at all in this trailer, he'll probably help Link on his way to defeat Ganon with those other guys.
Man, they want to kill our wallets with these Amiibo. I wonder what they'll do though.
Eh, never really paid attention to how much/ less expensive it is in Europe. Looked up up the Switch and the price is 10 Euros more than it should be and BoTW is like 20 Euros more than it should be. I guess we do have it a little more expensive here.
But the worst of all is you lucky people get two special edition while I can only get one here which has less than any of your special editions which is likely more expensive anyway xD
Eh, as long as the music selection is in there (which it is) I'll be fine.
It's for moments like this that I'm glad I hoard most of my money xD
Only problem is that the game and console is already sold out :/
Which Switch are gonna get btw, the one with the grey Joycons or the neon ones?

Yes, pimp Bowser and that casino royale-esque vibe too. I could see him and Mario gambling with cards xD
Pretty sure Corrin will be Volga 2.0, not sure about the other characters. I'll probably still get the game, and I'll amuse myself with how they'll go about 20+ ways of using a sword. I suspect they'll find some way to add variety, and I wonder if they'll have a story mode, like HW did.
Funny you mention the king possibly being the 'old man' cause I thought the same too. I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed for some kind of 'Farewell Hyrule King' remix at some point of interaction with him aldfkajdlfkjadflj
We'll just have to see how it all turns out, though it's very hard to resist theorizing lol. My ONLY gripe with the whole time thing is because... it's a time thing. What if they create another rift in the timeline like OoT did? And I'm still skeptical about whether or not SS might as well, since we do have the pre-SS 'Hylia and the war' and whatnot. My mind is going to explode from all these multiple universes xD
I'm sure there's a way for you to pre-order a special edition from the U.S., no? Though the actual game disc iirc wouldn't work on a German console, if it's anything like how the Swedish console wouldn't play American games thing. As for the music, I wouldn't be surprised if someone finds the entire soundtrack before the game even comes out.
Not sure which Switch I'll get, I'd get a purple if there was one hehe. You?

Timesplatter In reply to Scriva [2017-01-16 19:09:06 +0000 UTC]
Pimp Bowser and Casino Mario lol
Peach would be the hostess I guess and Luigi the shitty janitor xD
Yeah, some more recent MCs have certain styles, but everyone else is just a copy paste character xD
They'll probably have a story mode too, but like HW it won't be the main attraction.
I'm also eager to see if they redesign characers like in HW or if they keep them the same.
Funny you should mention the King's theme.
Also, I think it's not Zelda's hair after all that I find strange, rather her huge eyebrows.
Some fanart (like this , or this )Β with smaller eyebrows looks more fitting I think.
But it might just be the lighting and her being all sad in the trailer. We'll see.
Well, some theorize that BotW is an alternative timeline that resulted from SS, so... xD
I'd rather have it be at the end of the adult timeline though.
From what I understand the Switch has no region locking, so I'd be able to import games from Japan and play them fine.
It's not really a problem though, the EU special edition has the CD and the statue, the rest I don't really care about.
I'm not sure either, but I might go with gray because it fits better in my room like that.

Poor weegee xD
Well there's supposed to be a FE Direct tomorrow, so I'm assuming they'll show some FE Warriors stuff, or maybe it's too soon idk.
I almost had a heart attack when I saw that video, man. The excitement cannot be contained! I really do hope it's her daddy, and not an old ancestor like Daphnes with Tetra.
Yeah I noticed Zelda's thick eyebrows too in BotW lol. Seems like they're going for a less elegant look, and more rugged/worn vibe with her. I mean, this is also the most beaten up Zelda I've seen in any game.
Argh, if my writer's block carries me on until BotW I'm screwed. With me wanting to bring up stuff like the Sheikah, Gerudo, etc, for the future, a part of me wants to hold back on writing some stuff just in case BotW fills in anything.

At least he might or might not have Daisy perhaps maybe kinda not really...
If the old man is really the king how did he survive the 100 year gap though? Is he really just some spirit/ sealed form?
She is pretty beaten up in some shots, same with Link, I really like that, makes it more real.
HW is pretty seperated from BoTW though so it shouldn't really affect your story in meaningful ways.

Scriva In reply to Timesplatter [2017-01-19 08:13:41 +0000 UTC]
I've almost stopped questioning how things like Daphnes and Impa ages lol. For all we know, he could have been 'transported' similarly to how Zelda and Link were between the 100 year gap till now (if we are to assume they did in the first place). And yes, alternatively, he could just be some kind of spirit.
Agreed, this might just be the 'dark and mature' game we all wanted.
Oh, HMK and some other guy (and probably a ton of other YT users by now) came out with a video with the 'backstory' of BotW as per a tapestry. Not sure how accurate this is or if it's actually a spoiler, but yeah. If it's true, it's making me more skeptical that this game takes place later on in any of the 3 timelines.Β
π: 0 β©: 1
Timesplatter In reply to Scriva [2017-01-19 15:45:02 +0000 UTC]
Impa at least I can understand she's a Shiekah and those can live pretty long as shown in SS.
Maybe the King is a Shiekah too?
Yeah, this is translated from the tapestry with those four beasts, right?
I read part of it accidentally and I kinda feel spoiled a litte :/
Also, have you seen the FE Direct?
Random but since we had a little talk about Smash I booted up Smash 4 since a while and found out that you can texture/ music hack the shit out of this game too.
HW textures and sick music here I come lol

Scriva In reply to Timesplatter [2017-01-19 17:15:11 +0000 UTC]
The king a Sheikah? That'd be interesting. Still dunno if the Sheikah is an actual race, or a choice (like choosing a religion). They seem to share the red eyes thing in common, but that could be magic-related, or part of the 'joining' of the tribe, who knows. I mean, Zelda herself is able to change her eye color from blue to red under her Sheikah disguise, and even skin color...
Well the video did warn of 'spoilers' but I don't know any better than you do about what's theory and what's spoiler at this point. If we want to avoid possible spoilers, maybe we should avoid more videos till March xDΒ
I saw only the trailers for the FE stuff, and then the extended gameplay trailer for FE Warriors. Non-surprisingly, the game looks a lot like HW. How about you? Did you see it too, or did the other games interest you?
Yeah I know Smash can be hacked, I just haven't gotten around to trying it. You gonna try it? I might if it's not too complicated lol. Brawl's hacking took some time to read up about the Homebrew stuff and making brstm files and whatnot.
π: 0 β©: 1
Timesplatter In reply to Scriva [2017-01-19 19:24:21 +0000 UTC]
The Shiekah are a race that's destined to serve the gods, specifically Hylia (or nowdays the Royal Family) and they have clear physical atributes such as red eyes, mostly light hair, pointed ears and powerful magic that are unique to them. But they do seem to have history, culture and arts that they can share, implied by Zelda pretending to be a Shiekah.
I don't think you can become a physical Sheikah just like that, but you'd certainly be able to become like an honorary Shiekah I presume.
Zelda changing eye color is just her magic, similar thing happened with her becoming Tetra.
Ye Gods, that reminds me of the old "Sheik is a man" debate, that for some reason is still prevalent in some circles. That discussion always makes me irrationally angry xD
I didn't even watch the video xD
I just checked the descrition to see if it's a theory video or a legit leak and then scrolled to a bit of the translation and thought "well... fuck"
I saw it. Fire Emblem: Gaiden got a remake, the Switch will get it's own FE, FE Warriors looks cool and a mobile FE game.
I might check out the Gaiden remake. The MC looks badass. When I first saw that part I thought "hey, that MC looks familiar, he looks like the guy from Gaiden." Pretty obscure game even to some FE fans, so it's cool it's getting some attention.
FE Warriors looks over the top as expected, I might get this as well.
The Switch title we can't say anything about and the mobile game doesn't really speak to me. The new art direction is kinda weird for some characters.
Also plus points for featuring Yuri Lowenthal xD
I hacked Brawl back when it was all the rage, but I never figured I could hack Smash 4 almost exactly the same.
I've tried my luck, but so far I haven't gotten the hang of it. It's pretty easy in concept, have a SD card load some files onto it, load up some site via the Wii U browser, start the game and enjoy. Easier than Brawls hacking imo, but it hasn't worked yet. All the guides I check either don't go into the important details or go too deep xD

Scriva In reply to Timesplatter [2017-01-20 14:07:33 +0000 UTC]
I'm looking forward to finding out more about the Sheikah, like the Gerudo, as they've always been such ambiguous races. So is there like a robot race now? xD Well I guess the Ancient Robots from SS might have been the start of something.
Oh boy, don't remind me of the 'gender' debate of Sheik lol (yes it's still ongoing, I'm sure). HW did her gender right I think - still mysterious, but a female, even in her noises/grunts. Unless your'e an avid male!Sheik supporter, whoops!
Speaking of LoZ debates, I think my favorite one reading up on lately, particularly with BotW, is the timeline placement of the game. I've heard various arguments, and people have pointed out some really good points, some of which we discussed ourselves. Zeltik made a video showing there was evidence that the timeline placement could occur in ANY of the three timelines (it was actually pretty interesting). Now there's an increasingly popular theory that the game will try to merge all three timelines. I've always wanted to see something like this tbh, but I don't know how the hell they'd be able to do it. Every time I think I have an idea of where in the timeline this game could be, there's always something to indicate it could be somewhere else. It's so frustrating but fun xD
Yeah I saw from the comments that Gaiden was a remake, though I wouldn't have known, since I never played the FE games. I never know where to start when it comes to games with so many sequels, like Final Fantasy.Β
Hm that's weird, have you considered checking out Smash Boards (Smash World Forums). They might have a thread there with more recent updates/trouble-shooting and whatnot.
π: 0 β©: 1
Timesplatter In reply to Scriva [2017-01-20 15:38:43 +0000 UTC]
Can you even consider robot as a race?
Robots existed since OoT technically, but only in SS have they shown sentinence.
It's one of those debates where people put their own agenda over actual proof.
I don't even understand why it was ever a debate to begin with. Sheik is Zelda in disguise, Zelda is a woman, so Sheik is a woman too. The only way Sheik is male is in the sense that the persona of Sheik is supposed to be male but that's it.
Timeline placements is one of those topics people never seem to get tired of xD
Regarding Aonuma's recent comment when asked about BotW's placement I stand by that it plays relatively far down the timeline. My prefered spot would be the end of the child timeline, while I'd hate for it to take place post-TWW.
The merging the timelines theory is pretty controversial, but I wouldn't mind it if the way they do it makes sense. The flaw in that theory I see is the how it would happen. I get that the Triforce or the Goddesses could probably do it, but regarding the Goddesses: why would they? And regarding the Triforce: ignoring that nobody except maybe the Goddesses know of the different timelines, who would make such a wish and why?
lol all the theorists sit there working their brains to cram it in there while Nintendo just puts it in the place they want to regardless of the inconsistencies. They're gonna retcon everything to make it fit xD
I'm also glad they decided to make it such a mystery, makes it more fun.
Heh, that does seem to be a problem with big franchises.
If you're legit trying to get into FE though Fire Emblem (aka Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken aka Fire Emblem 7) or Fire Emblem: Awakening are imo the best places to start.
Haven't found anything helpful yet sadly. You don't happen to be a pro hacker?

Scriva In reply to Timesplatter [2017-01-23 05:10:45 +0000 UTC]
Eh, kinda? xD I remember the ancient robots were shown next to the other races in SS in a parchmenty illustration, with Hylia at the center holding a harp.Β
Let's not forget the crazy fans who wanted Sheik male so that they can ship 'him' with Link lol. I'm sure that's one of the reasons some really want to believe otherwise, but w/e. This is the internet, therefore everyone is paired with everyone. Link is probably more of the fan-whore than Zelda is tbh, as he's even paired with himself
Yeah BotW might be far down in one of the timelines, or it might not, so I'm just gonna wait and play it through. I'm a little wary of checking some videos now in case of any 'breaking spoiler' but the analysis stuff was fun at the time.
Well, when have any of the goddesses actually shown up in-game to try and change something? Not counting pre-WW where they had to flood Hyrule. Not counting SS Zelda/Hylia. I think they show up in at least one of the handhelds but iirc they were mortals? Anyway, why the goddesses would intervene to try and merge all the timelines? Cause the timelines are a mess that's why. I know, I know, a lot of this stuff Aonuma never intended, but it's not like having a linear timeline would be the 'end' of LoZ. They still have plenty of gaps to fill.
Who would use the Triforce to wish for the merging of the timelines, if they were aware of the timeline split? Depends on how they're characterized, and what's at stake. If we're going by how they've been characterized so far, Zelda seems to have no qualms about jumping in and out of time if she finds it necessary, and Link just does what she wants. Ganondorf would only bother if it benefitted him in some way. I don't know, what if there was ever a 'only one timeline can survive' kind of thing? Though I doubt they'd do that, as it would create a very convoluted plot. I've seen enough time traveling/alternate universe movies/stories to guess several things they might do, but it'd take a great deal of thought and patience for everything to make sense.Β
Noted, thanks though not sure what game will be able to succeed in pulling me out of BotW for some time haha.
I'm not sure if this is useful, but it's somewhat recent, and SWF has been pretty reliable in general for smash stuff. I checked to see if they had any dedicated threads to smash mods, but didn't see any, though I might have missed something.

Well, yeah but I thought more of the lines "how can you consider them a race If they're not biological and therefore can't really have a race or more?"
Maybe they'd rather be like the Terminators with their T-*insert number* series being different "races".
I'm just overthinking stuff xD
lol yeah I've seen some fanart of that xD
I think Link's more of a fan-whore because he's a guy (bishounen even) and yaoi is super popular on the internet. Don't know why, maybe because gals just create more content on the internet? At least the stereotype of the horny fangirls writing yaoi stories is true for a lot of people in my experience xD
Doubt it is early in the timeline, it has to be after multiple Ganon attacks, otherwise the old woman on the trailer doesn't make sense.
Right, being spoiled so close to the release would make me furious. I'm trying to tone down watching the analasys and so on, but I can't help it sometimes xD
The goddesses have never really appeared, what you're thinking of are probably the Oracles. They're obviously supposed to be like the godesses, but they're more along magical maiden and have nothing to do with the actual goddesses.
This might be an unpopular oppinion, but I actually think the timeline isn't as half assed as people say. Aonuma has worked on Zelda since OoT I believe and ever since that he had some sort of plan, wether he intended the downfall timeline I don't know, but the rest of it has always made sense.
But yeah, I wouldn't be opposed to mergin the timelines, I guess I just don't see them finding a convincing reason how to do it.
You're right once BotW comes out my hardly aquired skills in anything not BotW will drop so hard xD
I actually fear I won't be able to enjoy it probably because after february I won't have any break from work in months to binge play the game. That's how I always did it before. Should've stayed in the uni xD
Thanks. I'll check it out.

I guess the creators of the robots would be the more 'appropriate' race. Also, robots are more of a 'neutral' side but they can be 'good' or 'evil' just depends on who is manipulating them. Would be interesting to see what Link could do with a mecha of his own that he can control xD
Yeah I don't know why slash is popular on the internet. I think a part of it is that it's something 'new and forbidden' which makes many excited, or maybe it's cause some girls feel uncomfortable relating to the girl in a het relationship, either from personal experience or fear of what could happen to them if something goes wrong. In slash they feel like they don't have to think about themselves as much, since it's another guy. If that makes sense. I don't know, but the topic is kind of interesting to me and it's yet another proof to me about the impossible standards people place on female chars, if they're so meh at seeing them, that they'd prefer another male char instead.
Yeah those analysis vids, I can't help it either sometimes xD
No problem, if that doesn't help, I found this video too, not sure if you already seen it.

Yeah, who did build those robots? If the Shiekah built the Guardians, could they have built the ones from SS too?
Speaking of robots. I heard somewhere that TLoZ used to be science fiction-y when they came up with it. Instead of the time travel supposedly you'd collect computer chips and travel through different times/ dimensions. Now that's fanfiction fuel xD
Eh, I think that's overthinking it a little, the easiest answer would probably be just thet there are tons of horny girls on the internet who use fanart/ fanfics as an outlet. I'm not a girl so I don't really understand why one would feel uncomfortable with hetero realationships. But then again some of the more "invested" slash fans on Tumblr insist that everyone of their gay headcanons is true (the "make Capatain America gay with Bucky" petition comes to mind) and seem to hate the mere concept of hetero relationships for being "boring" and "heteronormative" and all that silly stuff xD
Somene should really make a study about slash fiction on the internet though xD
Curses GameXplain, curses, Zeltik, curses HMK!
Hm, that's how I always tried it :/
I guess it just doesn't work for me, but thanks for the help
More time to replay Twilight Princess HD in preperation for BoTW and check out the Overwatch Chinese New Years event then.
Also, super minor, but Star Wars Episode VIII now has a subtitle finally xD

Seems to hint more toward the Sheikah having built them, but I try not to think too much on it yet so I don't self-spoil myself (curses GameXplain/Zeltik/HMK indeed lol). Well gotta admit, seeing all those robots does somehow feel more sci-fi-ish feel to me than fantasy, or maybe both, plus adding the time traveling stuff.
I'm most likely over-thinking the slash explanation, yes. Though some of it was what I've read from responses of other girls, cause I was curious enough to research. And the reason I think some girls feel uncomfortable with getting into relationships is because of how exaggerated the media/movies/etc can be, and maybe cause their own parents might not be together anymore. I don't think being interested in slash is just a sexual interest thing, I think there's something more psychological behind it, but who knows?
In my opinion, I think it can just be a phase. You're curious, dip in the water a bit, then you'll either stick to it for awhile or move onto something else. It's a little sad that many slash fans will run away at the sight of a het story, but I guess it can work both ways for many. And I really do believe characterizations is a part of it, kinda like how you brought up the whole 'boring' and 'heteronormative' thing.
Hm not sure why it's still not working for you. If I feel inclined to ever hack Smash 4, I'll let you know in case I find something that works for me. And no problem c:
Oooh, Last Jedi? Could this be a reference to Luke or Rey or someone else I wonder? Also something interesting to note is that Carrie Fisher had filmed her scenes in this movie before she passed away.

Shiekah are so op that they build machines that casually destroy Hyrule xD
These girls seem like a pretty small minority though, and it seem like such a silly reason too.
But from what I've heard in the US more and more people do seem to be somewhat reluctant with relationships, male or female. Guys have their "Men Going Their Own Way" and women are "strong and independant and need no man." Kinda sad actually.
Ah, but isn't sexuality also part of psychology xD
Thanks, you're too nice
Jedi is both plural and singular, so it could mean either mean Luke orLuke and Rey. Personally I can see the Jedi being gone after this movie (being either completely wiped out with Luke's death or just by Luke saying "fuck it, I don't want to be a Jedi anymore") and Rey building a new group from the ground up to be their successors. Similar to how Snoke and Kylo aren't Sith but some new facette of the Dark Side.

Sounds good. I'm debating on whether calling in sick today at work cause I've spent waaay too much time awake <.<
But anywho.
Overall I liked it, but I have some mixed opinions about various things that I can't really get into cause spoilers. I will say though, it was kind of amusing to watch the audience cheer and clap when Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher made their first appearances. Good ol nostalgic feeling ^^
There's a lot of action too, so if you're the kind of person who has a short attention span, or needs action on a fairly regular basis to hold your interest, then this movie will do that. It also adds some modern-ish concepts and humor that kind of sets it apart from the overall serious tones of the other Star Wars movies. Action and humor, two things that I'm utterly terrible at writing, but the director incorporates them.
Gah I can't say much else without spoiling lol

There's some kind of huge reveal coming out of nowhere isn't there? Perhaps about Kylo and Rey like the theories go...
I'll just have to go in with an open mind and see for myself.

And for good reason xD
Not gonna say anything about theories, but Kylo makes Anakin look sane. Surprisingly, I didn't find myself quite attached to the character, though not sure if that was an actor thing, or a character thing. But yeah, this guy is crazy o.o I don't mean Joker crazy, but 'confused' crazy. Not really sure how else to explain. Like I said, he makes Anakin look normal in comparison, which is kind of bizarre when you think about it.

So he's making a guy who within 10 minutes turns from Jedi Knight to mass murdering, child murdering, borderline genocidal, wife choking badass look sane? xD
The confused kind of insane is my favourite kind of insane. I'm weirdly fascinated by them. So I hope he's my kind of psycho xD

I generally like the confused kind of insane too, but this one was different. You'll just have to see for yourself xD
Now that you mention it, Anakin might be a tad bit more insane in some aspects. But hey, we're comparing insanity here. I guess it's unfair of me to place anyone lower or higher on the scale when it comes to insanity. There's a fine line between abnormal and insanity. And I say abnormal instead of normal, because I don't believe normal to exist.

Play some video games to distract you, or watch a movie. Go for 100% completion in Hyrule Warriors xD talk about BS, some of those quests in Adventure Mode, not Legend Mode, are beyond infuriating. If I ever have to do another difficult mission as Agitha, I think my head will implode.

I still have to watch Return of the Jedi today, so at least I can do that.
100%? I'm not a sadomasochist xD
I do actually still have some of the DLC missions to complete, but first I need to level up my characters. Link is level 255, but anyone else was left behind in the dust.
Ah yes, the Agitha missions. Through those I learned the power of spamming her giant bug.

Well I hope you enjoy it once the time comes. Don't worry, it'll come before you know it Β :]
I guess I don't feel too bad then about also having a level 255 character xD Zelda being the one. Rapier all day, baby. With some fun with the Dominion Rod, and a bit frustration with the Windwaker. Link is way up there too in levels though. Everyone else is drastically behind.
Eh with Agitha, I just hate having to get kills with her. She can juggle officers/warriors with the beetle for days, but other than that, she just feels so lackluster. Which is a shame, cause riding a giant butterfly is kind of fun lol. Speaking of which, I wish Volga had more attacks with his dragon form. Can I just say how satisfying it is to morph into a dragon, and then explode into an entire keep (sometimes clearing the whole darn thing in one go?). Ganondorf's Imprisoned hand can do that too, but dragons > flabby bags of teeth (aka I despise the Imprisoned)

Heck yeah, Rapier all the way. I like the others fine, but her Rapier moveset is one of the best movesets in the game, just in terms of badass factor. Might actually be my favourite, along with Impa's Naginata and Fierce Deity Link.
True, it's pretty much her only viable move in most missions which takes the fun away.
Yeah, I was a little bummed we can't use that fireball the CPU has. That was what I was looking forward to the most with him.
I love turning into dragons, but dark magic constructs in the form of Ganon Susanoo style are imo just a little cooler.
And yes, the Imprisoned sucks real hard.

Scriva In reply to Timesplatter [2015-12-19 13:01:04 +0000 UTC]
Honestly I could just replace her Windwaker with Sheik's harp, it'd be perfect for me. Rapier and Harp is all I need for Zelda's weapons. I'm cool/neutralish with keeping the Dominion Rod, and it's also rare that a 'hero/light' character is able to use a 'dark' weapon. Like Fierce Deity Link.
Omg that fireball the CPU can use TROLLS me so hard. When I first saw it, I swear I tried like every button combination and mashing that I could to try and do it, but noooope. His only other dragon attack is the one when his magic meter is about to deplete, where he flies around in a quick circle and creates like some fiery whirlwind. The other one is when you use his magic meter early, but he has a half-dragon form in that one.
Welp, time for me to go and try to get my one and a half hour of sleep before my alarm clock goes off x.x
Take care, look forward to more Star Wars rambling

So, I finally watched The Force Awakens today.
It was awesome! From the first scene I was hooked. The action was great, the atmosphere was great, the cinematography was great and it was surprisingly funny. The the music was a little low key for Star Wars standards but good nontheless. It plays in the same league as the originals for me.
Who knows though, maybe it's the hype tallking and my feelings will change when I re-watch it with my family, but I enjoyed it very much.
Easily the best thing about the movie was it's (new) characters. So I'm just gonna say what I thought about the most important ones.
Rey: Awesome. She was like a non-whiny Luke lol. I loved her interactions with Finn (that hand holding part was pretty funny) and she kicked ass with a staff and a lightsaber. I also liked the insight in her past through the vision (which was amazing btw). I can't wait to find out more about her. If I had one nitpick it'd be that she may have gotten control of the Force a little too fast. At the begining she didn't even know she had it and by the end she kicked Kylo's ass hard. But the Force does work in mysterious ways and Luke learned to control the Force good enough within half a movie too.
Finn: He was great too. I loved his introduction. Not one word was spoken and he was wearing a mask the entire time but his feelings are still conveyed expertly. I like his transition from guy who just runs away from everything to hero. His banter with Poe was funny and his interactions with Rey were cute. People probably ship them don't they? Also his (or rather Poe's) leather jacket looks cool, I want it.
Poe Dameron: First off he's an amazingly awesome pilot. That part where the camera follows him just shooting up a bunch of ships was one of the most badass shots I've seen in a while. Shame we didn't see more of him, but I'm sure he'll have more apearances in the sequels.
Han Solo: His funniest and also most badass appearance yet, sadly also his last. R.I.P. Han Solo, he will be missed. The part where he shot a Stormtrooper without even looking was pretty sick and his exchanges with Chewie were very funny. And as sad as his death was, he went out like true daddy.
Kylo Ren/ Ben (Solo?): Oh my, he was the character I placed most my hype in and he didn't dissapoint. He was the best part of the movie for me. From his introduction, where he casually stops a laser bolt (I didn't even know that was possible) to his battle with Finn and Rey he was great. He is strangely vulnerable for a villain and his crazy ass temper tantrums made me legit worried for anyone in the same room. He was like the anti-Luke, but instead of struggling with the Dark Side he's desperately struggling with the Light Side, which I think is a wonderful idea. He's this punk kid trying to be Vader but deep down he feels he doesn't have what it takes. I got chills when he screamed at Finn for being a traitor and he looked damn intimidating in that last fight, even thought he got his ass kicked by the end. One neat little thing that also just showed what a freak he is was when he kept punching his wound in the final battle just to keep the pain and get fueled by the Dark Side even more. I can't wait to see what he'll bring in the future.
Of course there's the big reveal about him being a Solo child. Sadly his relation to Hand was spoiled just hours before seeing the movie, but I guess it's my fault for even being on the internet in the first place. I like that Disney's doing they're own take on the Jacen Solo/ Darth Caedus storyline from the expanded universe. But despite being a raging, delusional wannabe Sith I fell kinda sorry for him. What he's doing is horribly, but I just wanna know what Snoke did to that guy to twist him into that thing.
Anyway, those are my thoughts. What do you think?

Yay, glad you got to watch it heh, I told you it's action-orietnted! I agree that the music was a little underwhelming, which surprised me, cause John Williams has done so many fantastic scores. The rehash songs of the older Star Wars songs stood out to me a bit more, but oh well. Maybe it's the kind of music that will grow on you with time, or maybe they're building up for thr sequels.
I'll just respond to your comments on the chars and such with what I thought. Bear with my grammar and typos, am typing on my phone at work when it's less busy lol
Rey: I liked the actress and character. We don't know a whole lot about her, but I know that's intentional. And they gave her the modernized and popular 'tough girl' vibe yet some sentimental aspects too. It's nice to see a blend of both, as I myself am partial to writing some female chars like that; resourceful and strong, but with their moments of weakness. Her interactions with Finn were amusing too. Idk if they're a shipping thing or not, but I wouldn't be surprised
Finn: He was like the less trouble-maker version of Han Solo, and added comic relief. Stormtrooper with a background and who uses a lightsaber at some point.. never saw that coming lol.I kinda both laughed and facepalmed when he insulted Kylo's mask. Also, the poster showing Finn kind of trolled me in a way into the impression he was a Jedi from the start xD
Poe: This name tho! He seemed pretty chill, too bad we didn't get more screen time with him. I was kind of confused by his sudden reappearance later after his ship sunk in the sand (actually thought some horrifying creature had swallowed it lol)
Han/Leia/Chewbacca/new droid: Bundled all these into one cause they weren't major chars, but deserved mentions. Well, Han had a bit more significance, especially cause he died :/ but yeah, was nostalgic to see these chars. The new droid kind of reminded me of wall-e.
Kylo: The char was interesting, the actor I wasn't crazy about, but oh well.To me, he kind of felt like a more inexperienced Anakin, except rather than a Jedi in training, more like a Sith in training.Confused and emotional, and craziness. If he's supposed to end up being some reedemable char, he's gonna have one hell of a time doing so after what he did to Han. At the same time, it makes me more curious of his background, and Rey's. Are they intertwined, I wonder?
I'm surprised you didn't say much on Snoke. He didn't get much screen time, did he? Gave the creepy and evil vibe though, I'm certain we'll be seeing much more of him in the sequels. Also, his hologram was HUGE

Timesplatter In reply to Scriva [2015-12-20 20:59:09 +0000 UTC]
Rey: I usually don't like it when female characters have that ham fisted "Strong Female Character (TM)" thing going on, so I'm glad Rey wasn't one of those. Her Β moments were in jest rather than just pounding it in the audience faces how strong she is. Some may say she was a Mary Sue and I guess I can see why people would think that, but I disagree. She clearly had moments where she was afraid and had to struggle.
I'm also kinda hoping she'll get a yellow bladed double lightsaber and idk why xD
Given that this is the internet people have probably already drawn Rule 34 art of them xD
Finn: Some of the promotion material did kinda imply that Finn was gonna be the resident Jedi, but I always thought Rey fit more because the trailers portrayed her story as being the Hero's Journey. Perhaps Finn will still be a Jedi, he was surprisingly skilled with a lightsaber. Heck, he even injured Kylo. Even if isn't he's still cool in my book.
Poe: That IS a pretty cool name. I hope we can see more of him in later movies.
Kylo:Β Those Skywalkers, man. The first goes and cuts up a bunch of children and joins the Sith, the second appearantly couldn't stop his best student from slaughtering the entire Jedi school and then bails on his responsibilities, and Kylo murders his comrades, joins up the First Order who casually blow up multiple planets and stabs his daddy because he wants to be one of the cool kids. They're the worst Jedi ever xD
I'd love to know how Snoke seduced him to the Dark Side, but we have to wait two more year or more for that. I guess that speaks for the movie.
If SW can redeem Darth Vader then it can probably redeem Kylo xD
Snoke really didn't get much screen time, but I was fine with that since he's the new Palpatine type character. He is bigger than I thought lol. And for the guy who turned Kylo rabid and ordered the destruction of multiple planets he seems pretty chill actually. I'd hang out with him xD
I wonder how they're gonna fight him though, since he's so huge.

Me personally, for female chars, I like a blend of both. A complete damsel in distress can get old after awhile, but a stone tough personality can equally get as old. I think it's importance to balance them out, or at the very least, lean slightly toward one direction more than the other. I actually would argue the same for male chars. Weaknesses are an important and realistic part of character development, otherwise you can have a very bland char in which even a Mary Sue would be preferable.
Sorry I kind of derailed the Star Wars rant, but it's fun discussing writing elements and seeing what other people think
Hey, yellow lightsabers would be sick! There's several saber colors they still haven't done yet. I still miss Windu's purple lightsaber ^^ oh and I forgot to mention, I like the 'lightsaber grip' they added to Kylo's lightsaber... it looked more like a sword and I thought it was a nice touch.
Agreed, the Skywalkers have psychoness in their genes. Yeah, Kylo will most likely have some tragic death that might earn him some redemption, unless they surprise us with something unexpected. Which they did, cause I didn't expect him to kill Han.
I actually wonder if Snoke is that big, or if it was just his projection giving that impression. Even if he is, yeah, that's gonna be kinda intimidating to fight.
I actually wonder if

It's not that I don't like female characters who are badass and can do everything. To me it's not about the strength, I just dislike it when it's written in an obnoxious way, Β which is why I make a distinction between awesome characters that happen to be female (Rey, Sarah Connor, Elen Ripley) and "Strong Female Character (TM)", where gender is mentioned way too often. When everybody in-universe has to note how amazing of a woman they are, it starts to become less about her as a person and makes it about her representing her gender. Yeah, we get it, they're badass and have two X chromosones, you don't need to remind us of that every twelve seconds.
Sure, the same can be applied to men, animals, aliens and eveything between.
And don't be sorry, I like that kind of rambling.
Windu just had to be a special snowflake and have a purple lightsaber xD
I also liked how Kylo's sword was pretty unstable and didn't have that clean look of the other blades, more akin to a flame than a laser. And how he used the laser crossguard to his advantage was cool too.
I'm kinda hoping we get a full redemption story, instead of having a heroic death like Vader. I always wanted to know how everything would've played out had Vader survived on the Death Star, but now they have the chance to do that (kinda). But they probably won't.
The scene where Han cofronts Kylo was great, my heart was beating out of my chest the entire time.
I didn't think of that. I wonder if he even can fight. He looks pretty beat up with all the scars and he doesn't seem mobile at all, but then again the Force is beyond the physical as Yoda taught us. Some people say there's a Wizard of Oz thing going on and suggest he doesn't even have the ability to use the Force (or is very weak at it), which is why he uses Kylo. What would you think of that?

Scriva In reply to Timesplatter [2015-12-21 09:17:06 +0000 UTC]
Define 'written in an obnoxious way'. I'm curious. I spend quite a bit of time into developing my characters, so I feel compelled to to explore other people's opinions. Maybe to get an idea if I'm ever falling into that obnoxious way at times, myself. Though I think I see what you're saying. You think that, when exaggerated, it becomes less about the character, and more about the 'girl power' for the sake of trying to represent a gender. Honestly, it's really tough for me at times. The line between Mary Sue, tough girl, and damsel in distress are all very thin lines to play around to make the character believeable. This is one of the many things that makes writing as frustrating as it is enjoyable.
I loved the flaming design of Kylo's sword, and I think it's great that they gave him something more distinct compared to the other lightsabers, not counting Darth Maul's double edged saber.
Saaame, the first time I saw Return of the Jedi, and I was like a kid practically, I was devastated when Vader died. He had barely reconciled with his son, and he had never really gotten to know his daughter much either
And whoa, that piccy of Snoke. He kind of reminds me of Voldemort from Harry Potter lol, yet more gently deformed. Strange analogy, but yeah. I haven't heard of this Wizard of Oz theory, or that Snoke might not have the ability to use the Force. If that's true, I'm not sure what to make of it. Maybe he has some kind of other power, entirely? Maybe something not even Sith related? Though I wouldn't be surprised if he happened to be another puppet of an even deadlier villain. I could be wrong though.

It's obnoxious to me when, like you said, her gender/ girl power starts to "define" her character. Luckily it's usually just a tiny phase in a character. Like say, Katara from Avatar. They had two girl power episodes in season one and frankly I don't know why. Everybody loves Katara and all the other gals on the series, so nobody really needed those episodes. Writers should let the character just speak for itself instead of just telling everyone "hey, look at how awesome that woman is."
I always thought the best way to write a good female character was:
Step 1: Write a good character
Step 2: Make them female
When I write characters I don't write them to represent some group, I just try to write a good character regardless of what they are.
I suppose it also may come from my annoyance with political correctness.
And don't worry I haven't felt that from you at all.
Holy shit, he does xD
A different power would be interesting. Maybe something like an anti-Force, where he can just turn off peoples Force connection or something.
Perhaps it's like in Naruto in which the seemingly main villain is actually just a cast out member of the group of bad guys, who are lead by the actual bad guy, who is just a lackey to the real bad guy, who in turn is also just controled by the even more evil bad guy, who actually was manipulated by the real villain the whole time, but then it turns out that that villain is also just the right hand man of the TRUE mastermind.

Hey, not some bad piece of advice And yeah, I mean, like you said, these same things can apply to guys too. Sure, we want our guys to be kicking ass from time to time, but we want to see them fail too. Girls, guys, same thing. We have someone arrogant and strong, and suddenly they reach a point where they are not as tough as they thought they were, and they are utterly at loss of how to react.
Getting to the true mastermind is always the fun part, when you're just taken back at the fact that you thought 'insert character' was the main villain the whole time. I even see this relevance in the LoZ series:
Demise > Ganondorf > Cia (cause why the heck not add her) > Zant/Ghirahim/other "minor villains" > Bosses > Mini Bosses > Minions

In Zelda Wii U the ultimate mastermind will be revealed!
It turns out Demise used to be a nameless low-ranking demon in the underworld. Just another slave to the Demon King at the time. The nameless demon was content with his life, he did his part like any other demon in hell, though he always longed for more even if he couldn't find out what. That is until one day he stumbled upon a force that was, unknown to him, darkness incarnate. The darkness whispered to the nameless demon. It promised things to him. That he could be more than a slave living and dying for a Demon King who didn't even bother to give him a name. The darkness told the demon he could earn a name, earn his rights and broaden his horizon. If he let the darkness help him he could be transcendent.
The nameless demon agreed to join with the darkness and it shared some of it's power with him. With his newfound power the demon now stood a chance in the underworld. Now that he found strength he could challenge other demons and rise through the ranks. With every enemy slain the darkness shared mre pf it's power with the demon. Soon the slave was an acomplished warrior. Thousands of demons fell to his blade which even got the attention of the Demon King. He acnowledged his skills and bestowed upon him the name Demise. The darkness spoke: "Kill this king! Take the throne! Now you have the chance to get the position you truly deserve" Demise heeded it's command, slew the Demon King and took his title. For a time he ruled the demons fairly and just, it was a golden age, but as time passed he once again lusted for more. "You have done well, my friend," whispered the darkness. "But now my part is over. Now that you have the power you don't need me anymore. There are more worlds out there, my friend. Share your porsperity with them." With those words the darkness dissapeared. Demise went on to start the bloodiest war history has ever seen, what happened to the darkness is unknown. Hylia and her chosen hero managed to seal Demise in the end, but he knew he would return.
As he was sealed Demise's last words were: "I'm sorry I failed you, Master Tingle."
I must be really bored.
