Lol, at this point it's just customary for me to "Watch" talented artist I come across to let them know I appreciate their work, but my current number of unchecked watch notifications is 15,700 and climbing ^_^

Why does anyone love any show at all?
Is it because the humor agrees with them?  The themes?  The writing?  The plot?
What about the message it is relaying?  Many find it absurd that an adult could possibly learn anything from a children's television show, but I have lived long enough to know that not everyone seems to be able to remember how to treat others all the time.  Anything that can serve as a reminder of how to lead a wise, enlightened, and (most importantly) a kind life must have an inherent value even if it just teaches you things you already know.  I feel that I am a better person because of my passion for it.

It certainly helps that the characters are some of the best written and most lovable I have ever seen (which is no meager feat, I assure you).  To give an answer to your question that is based purely on what I value in my entertainment (rather than my own philosophical views) I would have to say that the show drew me in with it's gut busting humor and visual gags, but I STAYED because I fell in love with the main cast.  Though they live in a cartoon world, it isn't so different from Middle Earth or Hyrule and any number of the fantasy realms that I have loved all my life.  The characters are energetic and smartly written with a surprising level of depth that you can only see if you take the time to get to know them (just like real people).  
For example, Rarity used to be my least favorite of the main cast.  She seemed like the biggest stereotype for a girl's show I had ever seen.  Then I saw that she wasn't just into fashion and shopping, she was an artist.  She created her OWN dresses and was beginning to lead the fashion industry as a whole.  She was a self made business woman who was, surprisingly, not afraid of anything.  Despite being decidedly girly in her interests, she was actually tough as nails on the inside and incredibly smart to boot.  Dig a little deeper and you realize that she has apparently even received some formal martial arts training in the past despite the show never coming out and saying it (as opposed to Rainbow Dash and Applejack who are the true tomboys of the group, but are clearly self taught rather than trained).  Rarity is now one of my favorites for her hidden depth and for how ridiculously entertaining she gets the more distraught she becomes ^_^
