Mmm upon checking your gallery out I have a couple of suggestions.
1) biggest thing- you seem to be looking at refrence pics. Which is fine I used to do the same thing. But try to sway more and more away from them. It will difiantly help in the long run
2) Maybe try inking a few instead of always pencil shading? You can shade with color and it helps alot. =3 Give coloring a shot I know you'll come to like it.

Hey, its not just pencil! I do the sketch in pencil, then do the basic outlines, and some of the shading in pen, and they all turn out awesome.

Thank you for your comment in my Thomson Harbor Sunset series. Soon after submitting the series I noticed photoshopβs color calibration was screwed up, so if you were wondering why the colors looked a little brownish, it wasnβt your monitor. Iβve fixed the problem now though and the photos should look much better.

welcome to DA. Yes, abstract is not for everyone (its only one of many approaches Ive adapted to suit me over the years -- I spent most of my formative period doing lineart illustrations and working with pen and ink but moved to painting in my late teens/early twenties and have since bounced around between abstarcts and stylized repreentational work in just about any genre you can imagine. keeps things interesting I suppose...)
