They purr(when cuddling), wail(sounds really freaky but the vixen does it), bark(not like a dog's bark which is a deep throaty one, a fox bark sounds higher and sharper to me), make a very sharp and freaky sharp 'wow or Yeow' sound(depends on how you listen to it, sounds like a Yeow to me sometimes but then becomes a Wow) that would most likely scare you if you're alone in the woods, make sounds like a hurt chimpanzee (like a sharp aiieeeeeeeeeeeeh sound, and chirps (like a quiet yip of a wolf).

All-in-all very creepy, high pitch sounds, but i guess you can get used to them.

Yeah, the sounds foxes make are rather spooky, in a word. You can look up some YouTube videos if you want on them. o.o I think it's mostly because in anime, fox girls are perceived to be cute who purr and growl cutely and stuff.
