Hey, you're a gamergate supporter right?

Is ah.com still summarily banning dissenters like Ian The Admin has a nasty history of doing so?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Upvoteanthology In reply to Warsie [2016-10-24 05:06:06 +0000 UTC]

I'm not a gamergate supporter! I'm extremely anti-gamergate, actually, though I don't like to make my DeviantArt account about politics.

Uhh, I support Ian's actions, and the fact that you're looking for someone to confirm your already decided belief kinda proves you're not really open to changing your opinions. If you already think he's still banning "dissenters", wouldn't you want to ask someone who doesn't automatically agree with you?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Warsie In reply to Upvoteanthology [2016-10-24 05:29:35 +0000 UTC]

I was actually originally permab& before gamergate (GG wa...2014? I was b& in 2012 or so.). So I wasnt B& due to gamergate exactly, I remember when ah.com wasn't as...circlejerky then, but even when I first joined the mods were paranoid (my first thread, calbear was watching it as the thread was 'white nationalist revolution in Russia' in future history. Did stormfront raid AH in the past? why are they so paranoid? or was it reading the generalplan ost stuff which got them triggered? CalBear said he got physical sick at looking up the Nazi plans for the USSR and Poland...)

EDIT: lol, i have a wiki page. make that 2011Β wiki.alternatehistory.com/doku…

Oh, my opinion on banning people? You can try to change it sure, but the admins and mods has a nasty habit of banning people for dissent, and this wayyy preceded gamergate. Like hardcore, theres cases of people I knew who posted for years who got permab& and they werent exacty troll-y people (compare spacebattles.com, which when it was popular as a forum, you had to do a LOT to get permab& there).Β

Like one guy posted a Eugenics thread, talking about improving humanity and whatnot. It was just a joke and they swatted him quickly (he was really a transhumanist, but used 'eugenics' for the lulz). That sort of thimg makes us go OwO

Upvoteanthology In reply to Warsie [2016-10-24 05:55:26 +0000 UTC]

Uhh, okay? Well, I respect Ian, it's his site regardless so he can ban whohe sees fit. Plus, it looks like it was pretty justified from the things you posted. I'm sorry if I sound like an asshole, but it seems like I need to make my beliefs clear if people are going to think I support gamergate. Who's the "we" you're talking about at the end of your comment?

Ouroboros-491 [2016-09-06 03:13:40 +0000 UTC]

hey, I finished the map I was working on.

www.dropbox.com/s/i4jnj1l1cn9s…

I hope you're familiar with the MCU.

POD is Steve Rogers never becoming Captain America in 1943. HYDRA successfully breaks away from Nazi Germany and begins a campaign of world domination. America drops out of the war to become an isolationist power after getting nuked. Japan concentrates it's efforts in mainland Asia.

HYDRA is beaten back into a rump state by a collation of former European colonies, a pan-African union helmed by Wakanda and the Asgardians. The Euro colonies rebuild western Europe and become the Commonwealth of Nations, the Asgardians establish a protectorate over East Europe and Russia and the Pan-African Union annexes the African land Hydra took.

The inhumans help China run the Japanese off Mainland Asia, the remaining African nations not part of the Pan-African Union become the Colonist League, a hyper racist pariah state. The government of the Colonist League was later overthrown by the malicious Inhuman called Hive, who rules it with an iron fist. Β

Currently the Greatest Powers are the Commonwealth of Nations, the Pan-African Union and the United States of China and it's allies. The Asgardian Protectorate and Rump Soviet Union are on the brink of war with each other. The USA has annexed Central America and some of South America, is now known as the Federated States of America and is an Oligarchy. HYDRA and the Colonist League are Pariah States. Japan is a police state, the Kingdom of Iraq is eager to expand and Italy is massively corrupt.

Let me know what you think!

Okay! Sorry for taking so long to reply to this (three weeks, geez!), but I'm in a place where I can hopefully give you some constructive criticism now. Firstly, I'd just like to say that the MCU is really cool, and it's a pretty interesting idea to try to make a WorldA map of the Marvel world. I thought about doing something similar, but after hearing about all the weird micro-nations they put in Ethiopia I had to stop. Anyway, about the map itself:

1) Never save things as a JPEG, ever. It devolves the picture, blends pixels together, increases contrast, makes good maps look blah. Most people use PNGs when saving their maps, as it tends to not change the quality of the photo. This can also happen when you try to shrink or increase the size of your map. If you're using a WorldA, like what you used, changing the size of the picture will only stretch out the small pixels you drew on, causing a bunch more quality problems.

2) Borders! When using a WorldA (I'm sure you know what that is already, but when I say WorldA I mean the basemap you're using), you're going to want to keep everything 1 pixel thick.Β imgur.com/F7ew5PS When you draw borders, you'd rather have them look like the second picture in the teeny diagram I just linked. I don't know how to explain this any better, but I'd be happy to clarify if need be.

3) Colors? I mean, to be honest, the colors you chose were pretty good. Check out the TACOS color scheme if you want (I could tell you more about it if you want), but ultimately it's up to the mapmaker to decide the colors they want to use.

4) Key! You actually did a really good job on this, but it's good to mark out the colors of everything you used a separate color for on the key. It may seem kind of intuitive, but a lot of people color basically every country and only mark the more important ones on the key. This could get annoying for people who are excited to find the name of an obscure colored country, only to find out you listed two countries in total. You did a good job of avoiding this, but yeah. I tend to color the less important countries grey. It's good to color in rebel groups or puppet states, and clarify those in the key as well.

But yeah, amazing first attempt, far better than anything I made in my first few months at mapmaking (let alone my first few days XD).

Hey, thanks for getting back to me!

I've been getting a lot of contradicting advice on the file type. Thanks for clearing that up.

I only became aware of TACOS and all the other keys after I finished the map, but it's good stuff for future work! Even though I'm having trouble with my next map in that regard.

I've noticed that with keys. Glad I avoided it.

Thanks a lot for your feedback.

Um, one question. I've never submitted anything to deviant art before. On the display thing, should I make the image as large as possible or on the size it automatically went to? 1600 pixels and 1024 pixels respectively.
Β

Upvoteanthology In reply to Ouroboros-491 [2016-09-27 22:36:44 +0000 UTC]

Oh, make sure you press the large as possible thing. Basically, it's giving you the option to show a preview of your image. If you press the 1024 pixels button, you're just saying "When people click on my deviant, they're going to see a 1024 pixel preview of the actual sized map". If you do that, it's still possible for people to see the full thing by clicking "Download", but it's just a major inconvenience.
