On a seperate note, while I'm sure that the 4 characters thing is fake, I'd love for it to be real, just for the Chorus Kids at this point.

Yeah, I'm on board for Chorus Kids as a character (characters?), regardless of leaks being fake or not. I'm always for crazy unexpected characters like that. I was supportive of Villager and Wii Fit Trainer from Day 1 of their confirmation.

The IRC room is basically just a chat room, everyone in there is really friendly. To my knowledge the only lurkers in there are me and two other guys.

Haha, yeah, I've been pretty caught up with that. Can't get over how smooth and great it feels on an OG. I got the demo early thanks to a friend of mine. Villager's really fun, but I'm (sadly) kinda disappointed about Mega Man. All his specials save for the Rush Coil are pretty useless, at least in 1v1s.

Man, the game is so close, I can really feel it! I can't wait to just go down a try out everyone again.

PS: Today's stage is awesome. As someone who finds Assault to be really underrated, it warms my heart seeing such a cool stage. Especially since I thought it was gonna be Sector Z/Corneria all over again.

Yeah, I'm loving the new stage too. I haven't played the campaign for Assault, but I did play the multiplayer for it and that was just awesome. Wasn't expecting it to be anything more than another Great Fox stage. What a great surprise. Also cool how you fight across the opposite length of the ship.

Hopefully Donkey Kong gets a really cool stage for Wii U too.

Eh, I wouldn't say he was bashing K Rool fans so much as he was K Rool himself. Not a lot of people really care for him as much as they used too. And while he may not have shown up for two games, said two games are the two most important games DK's had in years seeing has they revived his franchise.

I mean, they'd have a point about not appearing in years, but Sheik appeared in one Zelda game (does Hyrule Warriors really count?) and Jigglypuff is barely relevant to Pokemon anymore, so that's why I don't think "K Rool is irrelevant" is a fair argument.

I think overreacted a bit. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think I'm cut out for joining GAF anyway. I've been thinking about it for a while, but some of the things I've seen I really don't like, and I'm not talking about opinion stuff, I mean stuff like mods banning people for stupid reasons.

Yeah, saw the leak on SmashGAF. You know, as good as that Duck Hunt Dog render looks, I want it to be fake. Ice Climbers, Wolf, Lucas and Snake all being cut while Dr Mario returning would have to be the ultimate DO NOT WANT. And Dark Pit (Frie Emblem's overrepped, let's not do the same with Kid Icarus). And while I'm okay with Duck Hunt Dog, Takamaru deserves to be in over him. Also, where are the Chorus Kids?

Also, the stage list looks terrible. DK and Yoshi just have past stages instead of new ones.

Me? Oh no, I'm not actually on Smashgaf, I'm usually hanging around the livechat that's in the OP for each thread (going by VGM as usual). MaverickHunterAsh is who you're thinking of, he's actually part of GameXplain. 

Anyways, what other AT's besides Takamaru do you think have a decent shot of becoming playable next game? I think that Dillon has a good shot, maybe Dark Samus too. And some others.

Well, considering how much Sakurai's pushing Uprising in Smash, I wouldn't be surprised if Magnus was promoted to playable in the next game. Tingle and Samurai Goroh could also happen.

That threw me for a damn loop this morning. He/She looks amazing to play, like all the other newcomers so far, the whole Tomes system is really crazy too. It's funny, I remember you being the biggest/only pusher of Robin, and it seems you came out on top in the end. Congrats on that, buddy! (Do you have FE:A? Care to fill me in on what other moves he could use besides what was seen in the trailer?)


Lucina is what's confusing me though... Is she an Alt costume, or is she the game's first Newcomer that's a clone?

Meanwhile, the Captain looks as awesome as ever. That smug smile, those powerful muscles, THOSE MOVES!

Thanks! I was so sure Sakurai would choose Chrom or Lucina over him, and when I was watching the trailer I was worried for a moment because they confirmed Lucina and I thought that'd be it. I didn't even know Robin would show up and that made me so ecstatic when he showed up to stop Captain Falcon. I thought none of my top 5 were gonna make it in.

Yeah I have Awakening (it's exactly why I wanted Robin, but I was against Chrom even before I played it). I think they covered everything really. He has swords (both the Bronze Sword which is Robin's first sword, and the Levin Sword which suits Robin's association with magic, particularly electrical tomes), tomes (with emphasis on the Thunder-based ones, which were his first tomes), and his Final Smash is meant to represent the Pair-Up mechanic. Really, the only thing I could think of that he doesn't have is his Ignus ability. Not sure how they might implement that.

Lucina's a bit tricky to judge. She's treated as a newcomer, but watching the trailer, not only does she have Marth's moves, but even his idle animation. I think that hints at her being an alt costumes, but one that acknowledges her as a character. I really hope that's the case, because a newcomer clone (especially when it'd make Fire Emblem overrepped) would be terrible.

You know, it's weird. Captain Falcon looks and feels a bit different. The trailer makes him seem like a bad guy sort of.

Hm. Well, either way, I'm happy he represents a large portion of Awakening's gameplay styles. All the newcomers so far are very cool!

So judging by Tuesday's pic, Lucina is indeed a newcomer. Oddly enough, this doesn't bother me as much as it should and I don't know why... Maybe it's simply because she's another female or because I like her voice and design? Well, whatever it is, I'm not all that upset. 

I always liked the idea that Cap is a sort of "Test" for newcomers. Beat him, and you're in.

So have you read the Famitsu interview with Sakurai yet? Gives a lot of insight on everything with Robin, Lucy and Chrom.


As far as my most wanted goes Little Mac is in, Mega Man's in, Greninja is the newcomer I never knew I wanted, Pac-Man's , so over all I'm satisfied. I'm still hoping that.

- Takamaru
- Ridley (I still have faith! Robin is my beacon of hope that there's still a chance!) 
- Chorus Boys (To be revealed with Wario hopefully:  m.youtube.com/watch?v=Wm3DY2aS…) 
- Shulk (For the soundtrack alone if anything: www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4vCEH…)
- Dixie or K. Rool (DK and Metroid are long overdue for three characters)

Yeah, I read it on Neogaf. I glad Sakurai saw it the way I did about Chrom being just another sword guy. The fact that he say Robin as the obvious choice from the beginning is even better. His reasoning for no Chrom makes Lucina's inclusion baffling though. 

Chrom wouldn't be different enough from Marth/Ike. But I'll make Lucina a Marth clone.

He even said that Lucina was meant to be Marth's alt. That's what he should have done. ARGH!

Also, that fan trailer for Chorus Men was great. I hope something similar happens in the actual trailer.

Sorry to keep you waiting! Here's how it went-  

1) The line was MASSIVE. It took me a good 3 hours before I got to play the damn game on the Wii U.
2) I got to play the 3DS version a few times while I waited in line thank god.
3) I came out very satisfied with what I played, I think that it, like Sakurai said, is around the middle of Melee and Brawl's speed.  


Character Impressions-  

Rosalina (Wii U)- I had a bit of a hard time trying to use her properly. I wasn't sure how I could use Luma so I pretty much just used him for the Luma Shot attack. I lost this match unfortunately.  


Olimar (3DS) - I felt that he hasn't lost much with the loss of his Six Pikmin, except for his Up-B, which I felt was a great KO move. His Up-Smash is longer to, so it's easier to attack him if he misses. I'd say he's worse, but not as a result of his lack of Pikmin.

Bowser (3DS) (this was my personal pick)- as a Bowser main in Melee, Brawl and Project M, this is my favorite incarnation of him. He runs faster,  his attacks are faster, his fire breath goes farther, very happy with him.

Stages-

Pilot Wings- It's a very good stage, not a lot happens on it though. It's got nice music too. The background can be a tad distracting in the Wuhu Island portion. 

Arena Ferox- I love this stage. It reminds me of Pokémon Stadium, and it's a lot of fun for normal, fast paced fights. The default music here is great too.

Rainbow Road- Reminds me of Mute City and Port Town Aero Dive. It's an great stages, the kart racers aren't NEARLY as dangerous as the F-Zero racers.

So uh, yeah. Again, please forgive me for taking so long!

Agreed. It's really pretty looking too! I wonder if we're getting a variation based on every World? I'd love if the lava world had the Bone Coaster show up some how. I just hope that Bowser's Castle isn't dragged into it. I want it to be it's own stage!

I get the feeling they'll mash some of the worlds together. In the second screenshot their were geysers and Mega Urchins from Sparkling Waters, but the setting was Rock Candy Mines.

Is it just the Wii U version, or will there be the 3DS version as well? Because I'm really interested in the Arena Ferox stage.

Also, if Olimar is in the demo, maybe you could find out what he's like now. I really don't like how he only has three pikmin now and I want to see if it nerfs him significantly.

God I'm so happy. I absolutely no idea anything like this was coming. I knew I didn't wan't him gone, and I had a good feeling he wouldn't be either, Fire Emblem seems to important to Nintendo now, so it can have more than two characters in Smash. One of my favorite characters is here, and he looks so badass too. His design from Radiant Dawn is so cool too. Seems like the WF Trainers have been going crazy on helping the roster, Bowser and Yoshi's posture, Ike's arms.. Great work.

Yay, (possible) Yoshi time!  I personally expect us to get Yoshi with a lighter shade of green, one to match whatever skin color he's got this time. I personally don't expect him to be revealed with a stage since we haven't gotten a DKCR (or Tropical Freeze) stage yet, OR a Kirby stage. Maybe we can expect one, but I'm not sure. Nice idea on his facial animations by the way. I'm really happy with what's Sakurai's been doing.  

So, after a possible Yoshi reveal, who do you think's next. I've heard on both GAF, TV Tropes and around the internet in general that people are supecting a Snake announcement sometime next week, due to MGSV. What about you? I personally, don't really care if he's back or not. He's ok I guess.

Why have you forsaken us, Sakurai? It was the perfect time to reveal Yoshi, but instead we got a stage based on obscure Japan-only game Tomodatchi Collection. It's not worth waiting til June or whenever for the most obvious yet-to-be-revealed character.

Sorry, I needed to get that out of the way. Anyhoo, Snake was an awesome addition in Brawl and I definitely want him to come back. I found him way more interesting in Brawl than Sonic was (I found Sonic to be very boring). His moveset is unique and he's fun to play as. Screw all the "But he's not important enough to Nintendo" people. He had two NES games, a GBC game, a Gamecube game and a 3DS game. Sakurai's rule with third-party characters was "Video Game-only character who has appeared on a Nintendo console". Snake fits that criteria; Sakurai never said they had to have a massive history with Nintendo. He's way more interesting than Simon Belmont IMO.

I would be sad if he was cut, especially if that washed-up Pac-Man gets in.
