I'm from Australia.
When I bought the 31 it was at the bell curve price wise. I picked it up for $600. But I made the mistake of trusting in others too much, so it's been sitting around wasting away for the last couple of years.
Once I get that camry back home, I'll be getting the 31 towed here too.

Unfortunately for everyone, the camry is priority to come home first. Once I eventually do get the 31, I'll be planning to make it a track car if I can't get someone to cert it. It's got rust on part of the chassis, so that's my MAIN concern.
Cars are such money drains tbh. I calculated how much ice cream I could've bought with the money I spent on the v35 repairs last year. 83 tubs of Ben and Jerrys. That's a lot of ice cream.

I believe you can get a cool car one day! Keep an eye on the market. All cars will hit their "bell curve" as I say, or their low point, before they start increasing again in value. Sometimes a car will even have multiple curves depending on demographic. Try and get something initially at what you think is the low point.
As for the 31, it's completely stock except for the head unit. At one point it had been slammed by a previous owner, so the guards are cut kinda badly.
One day it'll be in use again. They're so boaty to drive, and like any other nissan, they're full of gremlins.
I bought the v35 to cover the daily as the camry blew it's second engine. v35's are alright. The back end of them is by far the most appealing part. It's also super comfy. I bought that secondhand of course, because they don't get made here in AUS - it's a jap import. I was lucky enough to peel off the plastic film on the door trim. FRESH. But also full of nissan gremlins.
Please don't get a civic. I implore you, please no.

Surely it can't be any LESS reliable than the g35. The only issue I have with it, is that they've squashed everything in so it's hard to work on them. Heck, the dipstick is like a slinky you have to fit into a tube - my neighbours have heard me yelling "NISSAN WHY" "NISSAN STOP" quite frequently.
You also don't want to get anything too valuable as a first car, incase you beat it up while you're still learning. Almost everyone does.
As for the Camry, it is tough. I just thrashed the hell out of it. It was very tolerant and forgiving. That was actually the perfect first car for me. They're also super easy to work on. Except replacing cv's aren't fun. Mine are held on with zip-ties. And I made someone else do it. Mwuahaha.
Don't hate hondas fully. I know they cop a lot of guff in the car scene, but they have the ability to make nice cars. People just destroy that image.

Camrys are really good cars. There my dad's favorite for a reason. What's a CV btw?
I don't hate Honda's fully, I just hate it over the fact that people make it overrated. Otherwise some of them are decent cars

Do you know people there with some car knowledge? It's good to have friends who will help you work on cars. I'm not a mechanical whizz in any way, but I've still learned a fair bit. I'm good at diagnosing issues and crosschecking work.
A CV is a Constant Velocity Joint. They connect from the drive shaft into the transmission, in front wheel drive cars.. They transfer toque into power for the wheels. So when there's an issue with a CV joint, it will be felt as a wobble and shudder that is rotational based. CV's are a common issue with Camry's.
My Camry is a 1996, so it still kinda has the JDM feel to it with the design. What year of Camry does your dad have?
You should see the car culture here. It's dominated by Fords and Holdens (Australian branded Chevy).

Over here in Aus people basically rice out Holdens and Fords. Chucking huge dishy rims on them, slamming them, crazy paint colours, oversize wings, bulky body kits.

It's dropping coolant. Very inconsistently.
I tried to take out the airbox today to get a better look at the condition of the hoses on that side, as I KNOW it's the side it's leaking. However, I lack a 10 spanner. so I'll continue tomorrow. Also changing the air filter while I'm at it because it's super gross.
I miss the Camry. Everything wasn't so squeezed together.
