So far not a whole lot, at least not a lot I'd discuss in public. Steam is better for the sort of thing I do. But it's been a quiet month, one dedicated to stabilizing things in my life and it's been alright so far, even though I kinda want June to start already. How about you?

I've been good. Creativity is at an all time high, I've got Gmod to work with, almost finished college. Haven't heard anything from you for a few weeks, so I decided to give a quick nudge to see how you been.

Oh yeah, I've seen your recent works, good going there so far. Like I said, I'm not much into public stuff lately, though I did sign up for a contest or two to give me a reason to post. I'm also playing games on Steam, stuff like Paladins and Counter Strike.

Why thank you. I decided to take your advice and just indulge in the Warmonger stuff. Like, to quite the extent. Now Warmongers are actually on their way to being their own thing. History, heirarchy, specficiations, powers, the whole shebang. They're going to be a major thing going forward, in works inspired and original. I DO need to focus more on Frostfall, after all...

That's great to hear! Just saw War Pearl too, it's so nice to see the progress coming along like this. Clearly you just needed the right attitude for this and hey, seeing the Warmongers in Frostfall should pay off too.

Best idea, right? What matters is that you're happy doing what you love and clearly your interests have changed. It's all the better to take that opportunity and work with it, while you can. I know I'm looking forward to more of the Warmongers and Frostfall than complaints about something you clearly didn't like anymore.

Still checking on Sonic, huh? Well, to be fair it was for the best not to expect anything from that game, since it looked like a diet racing game from the start and chances are people will forget about it in a month. I'll admit I haven't even checked its gameplay out but eh, not that interested.

Ah, I forgot about that one! I actually played the original CTR at one point and it was such an amazing kart racer that even Mario Kart took notes. If this is anything like the NSane and Reignited trilogies, CTR will wipe the floor with the competition.

Ah, I didn't know that! I wasn't sure if this was like a trilogy or just CTR, or is it CTR gameplay with CNK tracks? That sorta reminds me of Mario Kart Super Circuit including the tracks from the first Mario Kart as well.

MasterPerryMartin In reply to ValiantPhoenix [2019-05-24 21:31:01 +0000 UTC]
It's a remake of CTR, but they put in the CNK tracks as well, edited a little to fit with CTR's simpler mechanics.

Oh, it'll sell. I'm just...worried what Activision will start doing when the money rolls in. They're not doing this out of the comfort of their own hearts...
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ValiantPhoenix In reply to MasterPerryMartin [2019-05-25 16:29:57 +0000 UTC]
Activision is a business company, of course they would want to make money. What would worry me is if they start compromising games just to make money, like shoving lootboxes into things and so on. CTR is a game first and foremost, they need to keep games like those that way.
But suppose this is successful (and I hope it is), maybe they'll remaster other games? Personally I'm hoping they make a remaster of Skylanders that drops the toyetic aspect and makes it more affordable, considering that particular money-making scheme doesn't sell anymore but the series has some nice lore and gameplay to it.

MasterPerryMartin In reply to ValiantPhoenix [2019-05-25 18:20:03 +0000 UTC]
Perhaps. I mean the last time Acti remade something, it was Modern Warfare. And that was great...until they stuffed it full of lootboxes and increased the price of the DLC that should have been part of the remaster. AAA companies cannot be trusted, but Activi$ion and EA less than any other.

ValiantPhoenix In reply to MasterPerryMartin [2019-05-25 19:51:42 +0000 UTC]
And that right there is what they need to stop doing. I'm not entirely sold on the quality of Call of Duty to begin with, but I heard that Modern Warfare was one of the better ones and I imagine Activision held it hostage with the lootboxes. I don't blame anyone who would rather just go play the original, I know I'd never endorse something like this.

ValiantPhoenix In reply to MasterPerryMartin [2019-05-25 22:13:25 +0000 UTC]
Suddenly I'm reminded of the move that some governments have made to ban lootboxes due to similarities to gambling and how it exploits customers. If Activision is smug about it, it's surely because they keep getting away with it and it's not quite as simple as, say, NOT buying their products. They'd have to screw up big time like Bethesda for it to matter.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
MasterPerryMartin In reply to ValiantPhoenix [2019-05-25 23:37:57 +0000 UTC]
That's the thing, Acti DID get away with it. EA got raked over the coals for Battlefront II. Black Ops 4? No-one bat an eye. For a game that supposedly draws so many kids to it you'd think people would be looking out for them from predatory bullshit like this...
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ValiantPhoenix In reply to MasterPerryMartin [2019-05-26 01:38:44 +0000 UTC]
I'm still puzzled by how Call of Duty took off with kids... Minecraft I can understand, but Call of Duty of all things? Maybe it's because of their parents failing to keep them in check, they really should have stopped this sooner. Either that or the dudebro demographic is larger than I think... but the gambling prospect of lootboxes IS predatory on principle and it's hard to believe kids would understand just how deeply it runs. Somebody should have gone to jail over this.

MasterPerryMartin In reply to ValiantPhoenix [2019-05-26 14:22:38 +0000 UTC]
It's an egdy army shooter. Makes kids feel adult for playing it. It's that kind of over-the-top fan-fic stuff that kids crave, really. They think they're one of the big boys if they play it, and like a hundred other reasons. It's just disgusting that Acti looked at this and went, "Welp, we can exploit this".
Then again, look at all the 20-somethings with stupid thin faces and dyed hair screaming their tiny heads off in lootbox opening with all-caps titles and clickbait thumbnails of them screaming at something that glorify this gambling, and you tell me who the fucking children are.

Ah, so similar to the Grand Theft Auto craze from years ago? That sounds about right, though it definitely wasn't just Activision. I remember seeing McDonalds putting Call of Duty toys in happy meals at one point and feeling disgusted about that.
For that matter, I don't really understand that obsession with clickbait over opening lootboxes. I mean, I've opened a bunch of those in several games and gotten cool things, but I'm guessing this phenomenon with 20-year-old kids is a consequence of them spending their childhoods on the internet and social media. Not a whole lot of maturity to find there.

MasterPerryMartin In reply to ValiantPhoenix [2019-05-26 22:53:30 +0000 UTC]
Yep. People keep saying COD games are supposed to be for 18 and overs. But Activi knows the truth. They know who to really market to. Only people young and dumb enough to buy their glorified skinner boxes nowadays. And COD toys in Happy Meals, huh? Never heard of that before...
I really used to like COD, really. World at War was my childhood, man. And now I see it as this ugly, cynical, trend-chasing casino stuffed with racist kids and gambling addicts and hyper-annoying streamer and Youtube types who glorify gambling to children...it sickens me to see it like this, and still make money hand over fist.

ValiantPhoenix In reply to MasterPerryMartin [2019-05-27 18:57:16 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, it was a bit of a shell shock to me when I saw that happen, not in TV but in an actual McDonalds with ads and everything. Of course, since the current generation basically grew up on internet and social media, companies like Activision can sell them anything and they'll fall for it. Because that's a thing, when you get used to just being fed things, it's hard to gauge their worth.
I actually looked up videos and got informed on what Call of Duty used to be before it became... THAT. From what I saw, World at War was one of the best one, presumably it was the first Modern Warfare that started this change into glorification, but at least it still had competent gameplay to back it up. Then later ones went in too hard and became easy prey for marketing, like a series that bought into its own hype and thinks it's way better than it really is. And considering the back-to-roots CoD WW2 couldn't shake that feeling, I don't think they will recover.

Well, I played the Special Demo for 2. And really, I had a blast. It's just so refreshing in terms of gameplay, control, mechanics, character design, story, character, music...it's just a charming game set in a charming world with charming characters. No invincible idiot heroes speeding around and selling toys. No jarhead grunts fighting for dwindling resources in a crapsack future. Just a bunch of kids who happen to also be squids getting in battles for fun. Also I...kind of became obsessed with Callie.

Oh hey, a man of culture. I happen to like Callie too, she was my favorite among the Squid Sisters and I still prefer her over the Splatoon 2 girls. Still, you're right that they made a very charming world with colorful characters and a nice story that never gets too serious. I personally prefer it over other shooters thanks to the creativity of the ink mechanics and simple controls.

I mean I also like the Splat2n girls, but that's mostly because of a friend of mine who loves them with all her heart. And she ships them. HARD.
But no, I'm really enjoying Splatoon at the moment. The only issue I have is that A: The motion controls are a bit wonky (but still better than trying to aim with the stick, I guess) and B: The amount of so-called Shower Questions I get from overthinking everything about the world. Here are a few;
-If Inklings are allergic to water, how do they drink and bathe?
-How do they get haircuts if their tentacles are parts of their being?
-If Inklings are made of ink and yet shoot ink from their guns, would that be like humans doing water fights with actual blood?

As in a couple? I heard of fans doing that with the Squid Sisters too, even though they're SISTERS, but to be fair the Splat2n girls at least seem more into the idea.
As you might have learned from your Sonic years, it's best not to think too hard about these things. But for the sake of humoring you, I'd answer them like this:
- Using paint or other substances seems likely. The creation of Agent 8 in the Octo Expansion hints at immersion not being the problem.
- They're tentacles, they'll just grow them back like actual hair. It might hurt them but it's probably not as bad as it sounds.
- Pretty much, considering that they're swimming in the same ink they shoot and explode when they take too much damage from the enemy ink
As for controller issues I didn't have that much problem aiming, though regular jumping feels useless in light of the sick tricks one can do with swimming.

Yyyyep, as a couple. Even though they're actually cousins, not even sisters. I mean people do, but I think for the same reasons that people used to ship Booker and Elizabeth in Bioshock Infinite; they don't know they're actually related. XD I mean, Bio does kind of have that as part of the twist, but I think in Splat 1 it's a little different. I'm not sure. Pearl and Marina, though? Yeah, they're fair game. I'd say they're a cute couple...because they are, but at the same it's all down to my friends. I tried to avoid shipping thanks to Sonic's absolute WARZONE of a fanbase, but...yeah. I kinda had to here.
Yeah, I mean I get it's supposed to be nonsensical, but I've always been rooted in more grounded depictions. Perhaps that's why all my output is so damn miserable, like Black Ice. Have you read that yet? Anyway, yes, then there's also another question; how do they keep their structure despite lacking bones?
Yeah, but you know people would complain if you COULDN'T jump normally. It works better for dodging more than actual platforming.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ValiantPhoenix In reply to MasterPerryMartin [2019-04-07 17:07:56 +0000 UTC]
Nothing wrong there, they clearly meant for Pearl and Marina to be attractive as part of the teenage vibe that Splat2n has been pushing for, especially with the Octo Expansion. Females also appear to be the standard gender in this world and I imagine they won't be making males to fill gaps anytime soon, so I don't blame your friends for shipping the girls now.
I did and it was somewhat interesting, if held back by the whole "Freedom Planet" thing. I can only imagine when you'll start doing this to Splatoon. War Callie inkoming? It might be miserable content but you clearly enjoy making it and that's better than some thoughtless, derivative factory crap a studio might cynically crank out these days.
Maybe? I mean, it hasn't helped me dodge much at all in real matches, though I suppose higher jump arcs would mean people might jump around all the time like it's Quake all over again. That's more frustrating to deal with, at least here you can pin enemies down by painting the area around them.

MasterPerryMartin In reply to ValiantPhoenix [2019-04-07 19:50:21 +0000 UTC]
I mean a common joke is that every male character in Splatoon is either old or evil, so F/F ships do kind of rule the roost over there. You have Pearl and Marina, Agent 3 and Agent 8, Callie and Marie if you're into that...I GUESS Agent 4 and someone else. Provided you assume the Agents are all canonically female, of course, which most people seem to do. I do think there could be some more noticeable male protags in Splatoon 3, but then that would limit the player's ability to make the Agent their own like they can with 3 and 4.
Hmm. Do you think I should stop FP stuff, then? It's hard to say. It's not...MASSIVE in terms of franchises, so there's not much traffic. I feel it needs to get bigger. Comic book, tv series, a live-action movie...okay maybe not that last one, but a comic book certainly. It's not like they can get any worse than Sonic's books...at least they won't be buried under many mandates. As for Splatoon, I've got a few ideas, for sure. And if you're wondering...well, Callie is going to be the focus. And yes she's going to get a dark side...not a Warmonger form, though. I've got a number of things to work out, though...
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ValiantPhoenix In reply to MasterPerryMartin [2019-04-07 22:37:41 +0000 UTC]
They must have forgotten about some of the clearly-male shopkeepers in the first game, though I'm not sure if they've been replaced by female ones in the second game. First game's female shopkeeper was the popular one after all... I get this feeling that they designed the characters as females first and foremost, only including male playables out of habit. Suppose Splatoon ever starts taking its lore too seriously, you bet we'll see Agent 3 and 4 canonized as females. And suppose they eventually do add male protags or main characters, we might see a boy band that will most likely be evil.
I imagine you'll have to stop if you're serious about moving on. When you talk about FP, you inevitably bring up Sonic and it comes across as a rebound to me, like you're only associating with FP because Sonic let you down. I'm honestly not sure what it is you even like about FP anyway, but these twisted versions of the main cast feel more like venting and fixing instead of genuine appreciation for it, a very strong contrast to The Doctor which you actually respect. Hopefully this dark Callie thing and other Splatoon things you might have in mind happen out of praise and not mockery, but these are your works to make.
