Quick question: What do you think about super flu (bird flu + swine flu), where the scientists moved around the genes and made it and found it to be very very deadly (at least to the mice)? Do you keep up with that stuff?Β

Never heard of that.
From what I know flu is always bird flu but sometimes it jumps to pigs and there it can recombine and jump to humans. Never heard of scientists moving genes around though.

Thank you very much!
I love biology and I love cartoons, and you put them together!
BTW, have you ever heard about the 'Biocomicals' project?

Hi! Thank you for your comments.
No I have not heard about Biocomicals, what is it?

Well, it's a series of comics by Alper Uzun about mice, DNA, eppendorf tubes, pipettes, molecular biology chemicals and graduated students. And it also has some grim humour like your works. You can find it here, albeit the site wasn't updated till summer (it says it's suspended, not dead):
www.biocomicals.com/comics/
It seems that the author himself works in bioinformatics.

YOU'RE HILARIOUS
As a fellow science nerd, I WANT TO KNOW WHAT YOUR OCCUPATION IS. Unless you are just plainly interested in microbiology?Β

Hi, thank you for all your comments
I'm an immunologist but some of these drawings date back to when I was a mere biology student.
Are you a scientist too?

I am currently in a Clinical Lab Sciences program at my university! So I am studying! 8D I will tell you how it goes. IT WILL TAKE A LONG TIME.Β
My current research adviser Dr. Paul Nash is an immunologist who works with toxoplasma. What is the topic of your current research?Β

I'm a cancer immunologist. We use gene-therapy to redirect T cells against cancer antigens.
Sci-fi!

But some are real hoarders that won't even try to hide it.

Happy New Year ... may I inquire what field of specialization you are in?
Biotechnologist or Genetician - or else? Maybe scientific illustrator? Your Model Organisms series especially caught my interest - nice works overall, though!

And happy new year to you too.
I'm a molecular biologist currently doing research in immunology. Its always a problem to answer to the question "what is your job?" in the forms.

AnnaKarelina In reply to Velica [2012-01-05 22:56:05 +0000 UTC]
Well, that problem hits home. I couldn't quite tell myself.
Research ... so I guess art is simply a hobby?

Just a hobby. Thats how I like it.
Are you a scientist, an artist or a hybrid?

AnnaKarelina In reply to Velica [2012-01-06 15:06:36 +0000 UTC]
The same for me - scientist.
The single 'professional' illustrations
I ever published were for (review) articles.
So it's basically a hobby.
