1, 2 ,3. I'm very glad that most of the negative stereotypes have been proven wrong since it took so much explaining to my friends that it didn't seem unsafe in any way in the areas my school stayed in.
4. Moreso I was referring to the amount of money put towards PDHPE in comparison to CAPA, like my school spends large amounts on sporting equipment while the dance room smelled like death and the drama room had a hole in the floor for almost a year (Dunno if they've fixed it yet) but jeepers. Your mascot sounds hardcore. Or your former mascot, but the need to buy a ridiculously overpriced mascot suit seems really silly considering even the professional NRL teams don't go to as much effort as some American high schools seem to (And the only time they seem to get close is when it comes to grand finals)
5. If any class is gunna do it it's gunna be drama... or music. Also I'm pretty sure your school has a choir class, that was a really awkward lesson to be a part but question-wise the most forgiving. Just be wary of them if you wish to avoid spontaneous sing-alongs. That school sounds like a bunch of weenies. I hope your school beats them at foobaw or whatever schools do to compete since the spelling bee lost its popularity and social importance.

also no that is...not a thing that happens here. we learn ABOUT religion and there's a seminary class for mormons bug that's it.

That's still kinda maddening but not too bad.
It doesn't really help that the only American news we get in Australia other than the mundane and uninteresting things A-List celebrities do is about Donald Trump wanting to fuck up your country and gun violence horror stories. Honestly the selective pieces of your news in Australian media is a lot of the reason why none of my friends went, and they seemed pretty surprised when I told them how well everything went.
Basically the stereotype of American schooling is as follows:
1. Creationism in Science classes 
2. Shootings ahoy because hey that's the only non-Political-or-Celebrity news we hear so it must be true
3. A ridiculous grading system that means nobody can actually succeed at school unless the principal is bribed or something like that
4. More money goes into the mascot's costume than the entire creative and performing arts department
5. High School Musical and Mean Girls are both real and are every school. (I was INCREDIBLY disappointed when this was proven false, especially the HSM part)

3. Nope. Nope. What? What the heckie? What crazy grading system??? also no??? I'm ranked literally like 30th out of 630 people in my grade and there isn't any bribery involved...I guarantee you the people who spread rumors and stuff about this stuff are the people who didn't try in school... It's not really hard to get good grades...
4. that might actually be true in our case but not many tho...our mascot was super famous (not even joking she was in an actual TV show for a whole season) but she also bought the mascot costume she used herself, and then this year the new guy had to use the shitty school owned one and then the school bought an exact mimic of the good suit which was crazy expensive from what i hear
5. yeah no but there are also so many hsm fans I wouldn't be surprised if the entire school suddenly broke out into song... neighbouring school already did it
