I would like to see you post more. I've missed seeing your work.

I totally dropped in because I was drawn to your icon... and immediately upon arriving, I got completely lost in your gallery. Your work is AMAZING. I don't think there are any words in the English language to describe the jaw-dropping, eye-popping art that you do. You have a very, very exclusive style, and I can honestly say that I've never seen anything quite like it. I can't wait to see more!

Do you use online tutorials for learning bits n' bobs that you apply to your artwork? If so, what do you use, if you don't mind my asking. Apparently my class instructor lets us loose for creating with our own skills, instead of helping us hone them, so I am not quite sure where I should start as for drawing (so far, I have only messed with photo-manipulation type stuffs, and not applied much to my actual drawing [on which I would like to focus more]).

When I started photoshop, I used various tutorials from DA "Resource and stock images" category ONLY for the technical aspect of the program, learning the features, processes shortcuts, ect. Only use these for learning the program, there are a lot of unprofessional artists out there, dumping tutorials, and they can mess a newbie up with bad habits. If your instructor is worth anything, s/he will be able to tell you these things and you wont have to bother with tutorials at all.
Use references ALL the time. The faster you get a hang of studying them, the faster you can improve your work. Never reference art, only photos. Reference things around you, draw exactly what you see.
This tutorial sums up anything I can ever really tell you.
[link]
Other than that, practice. Practice for hours. Carry a sketchpad with you. Draw until your hand cramps and then keep drawing. If you have to, turn your internet off to keep your focus. Draw over and over and spend a minimum of 15 minutes on a single piece. Just do it. Art will not come out of you like magic once you have read a bunch of how-to's and tutorials, it's 95% patience and hard work, exercise and developing coordination.

Forgive me for stalking your gallery. I love all of your pieces. It's clear that you put a lot of soul in your creatures. I love to see that in a person and their work. Are you going to publish a book with them or anything? I'd definitely but that book. c:

Forgive you? I can only gush my appreciation that someone has been so kind to stop by and validate my efforts. Thank you!
I have thought about publishing a book, a graphic novel of sorts. I have such scramble-brain it's difficult for me to put stories together, but that is something I do put my efforts towards.
Thanks again though, I really appreciate it.

PuzzledGumshoe In reply to Whompyjawed [2012-03-27 01:39:52 +0000 UTC]
You're welcome dude.
And I know what you mean about having a scramble-brain. I do too. DX
So I have a question about your creatures. Do you dream about them before you imagine their personalities?

Whompyjawed In reply to PuzzledGumshoe [2012-03-27 02:59:14 +0000 UTC]
That's a tough question!
I dream about "events" that may define a creature or even manifest as one, but I never dream about my characters directly.
Everything else is an exploratory process that comes together through line-stroke and kind of creates itself. I'm always surprised by the end result.

PuzzledGumshoe In reply to Whompyjawed [2012-03-27 04:13:17 +0000 UTC]
That's beautiful. I think that if you dreamed of one of those guys directly, that'd scare you off of sleeping forever XD I'd be scared. The guy in your piece "Keen to the Gnarled Child" had such a real face. If I saw him, I'd cry!
So beautiful. It's better to be surprised. Stephen King says that creating is like digging up a fossil. Sometimes know what it is until you excavate it fully. I never understood that as a kid, but I do now. I love that man.
Seeing these creatures make me think of songs by Nick Cave or PJ Harvey. I can't imagine why. Maybe if feelings from the songs had forms, they'd look similar to these guys. Orrrr maybe because I was listening to Nick Cave as I stalked your gallery. I recommend listening to the Murder Ballads.
Anyway, never stop drawing. You're a beautiful person. Know that if you do publish, I'll be the first to buy the book. c:

Wow, I do think I like his stuff. I remember once looking up Nick Cave and not really appreciating his rendition of Mercy Seat and so henceforth I never really gave him a chance. But I do love the way his music tells a story, especially Song of Joy and I love the southern gothic sound of Where the Wild Roses Grow. Thank you so much for showing him to me again, he's been tonight's working music.
Thanks also for all the kind words of encouragement, I gave your own gallery a stalkin' and your poetry is mighty fine.

You're so welcome dude. I love Song of Joy and Wild Roses. Curse of Milhaven is so catchy, even if its filled with homicide.
Thanks for the watch. I've got a couple things I need to put on here, regarding Goodwine. Oh that town...

I don't mind being under the grid. I like the ability to keep up with the people who take the time to converse me, popularity can be overwhelming. But I really appreciate what you say and I think your art is glorious as well! You're very, very talented with wet media and depicting emotion, the honesty in your work is difficult to come by.

I like what you did with the tags and the buttons on the side. Nice and simple. I'd do that if my art one wasn't linked to where my family can see.
