Writer, photo-manipulator; stuck in reality, in search of magic portals.

Doing outreach tomorrow for a tutoring program I'd been a part of for a bit. Every week I update my work availability with six employment agencies. While I wait to see whether any clients pick this week's auditions, I recently deliberated whether I can stomach working at McDonald's again, let alone apply there.

I'm just not a glutton for customer or employee/er abuse of any kind.

Are you applying to be a teller?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Witty-Allowishus In reply to JEBurton [2014-04-12 07:34:19 +0000 UTC]

My hats off to you. I could not bring myself to go to McDonalds. I had applied there, and they called me back, but I never called them back.
Retail. My first job was at a grocery store, as a bagger. I worked for the same grocery company twice, and three different stores. All as a bagger. Finally quit and tried the library, but a Page is a lonely position. Then worked as a cashier again at my local ballpark, but only seasonal--and then back to Kohl's again. Cashier. It would be nice not having to do pure customer service anymore. I need to keep my sanity. Wow, sorry, long reply.
Last Christmas, they had me doing one day a week, and then when Christmas week arrived, they put me at 8-hour shifts every day, even on Christmas Eve. I couldn't do it. I fibbed, said i had a family emergency, and ditched Christmas Eve. I was going to break down crying if I had to go through the same thing that next day. I couldn't handle it mentally.

Yes, I'm applying for a teller. I just hope I don't get scared because it's so new to me.
Sorry again for a long reply lol

Correction:

I took a job working at Del Taco as a cashier. A high school kid came in with his sidekick and ordered something. He didn't have the rest of the change to pay for it, so he demanded that I take it out from my register.

No, Narry, I Like long replies...they're usually more pithy than the short ones, and they give new a glimpse of character beyond the tresses.

I know exactly how it feels to be subjected too menial, underappreciated work. When I first worked at McDonald's, the spicy manager "trained" me how to cook a hamburger. ... by "accidentally" dropping the beef patty on the shirt floor... and putting it on the grill! I didn't want to see what he was going to do for a cheeseburger!
He then "trained" me on reheating a Big Mac, which included... sneezing on it! I recall not laying there. It may have had something to do with Not following company policy.

I think a job working at Del Taco as cashier. A Hogg school kid ordered something and didn't have the ready of the change to pay for it, so he demanded that I take it out from my register.

I refused and when he insulted me, he pressed my buttons. My first instinct was to leap over the counter at this kid.The manager asked me to just do it.

I was FURIOUS.

I refused and  asked to sweep the floors, so I did and swept right next to the offending party, hoping to get him outside in the lot.

He kept his head down, not noticing someone standing over him.
and then it occurred to me.

I'm not cut out for withstanding abuse of any kind.

I quit the next week.

That story makes me proud to know you.
I wish I could quit. I want to, but I was taught that it's best to have something else ready before quitting; but honestly, with all the credits and emails my manager is pushing for, I feel afraid and nervous to go to work. Do you ever wake up in the morning, after a deep dream, and have to take a second to remember that this is the real world? I have those mornings on work days lately. The second I wake up is one of the most sudden and depressing moments for me. I sit up and tell myself out loud, "Don't worry. Only 8 hours today. They'll go by quick. So quick, you won't even know it. As soon as I get home, i'm going right back to sleep; as soon as I get home, I'm going to photoshop. As soon as I get home, I'm going on my game. I'm watching a movie." etc.
I work 1 to 9 tomorrow. I'm feeling that worry creep up on me. Those moments where I have to take a moment, take a deep breath, and try to keep myself professional.
Or sane.
Yeah, sane.

Saturday was okay. I survived 8 hours at work. I hoped it went by quick, and it did. I don't work again until Friday, but that's normal for where I work. I need to find something better, where I can keep my sanity.
I think I've ranted too much about that already xD

Good overall. Spent time drawing office characters for Teqno Queen, a dance cartoon/adventure show I've been sitting on for years.

At church we had a guest pastor preach about Christ rising from the dead and living through is even blow. There were a few wishing to receive prayer and pray to return to Christ.

I wonder about your geographic location. It seems that I usually hear from you really late. I live in California. What state do you live in?

I'm in Colorado. I'm just a night owl, but it's later over there, isn't it? It's 10:20pm here. What about you?

I haven't been to Church in a long time. Too long. I think I've gotten a bad impression of my own religion in the past few years of my life.

Stupid smart phone tricks.  :/

Bad religion stories?
I have one.
The short of it?
A man invited me to church with his young son ages ago.
The pastor gave a call for baptism.
I admitted I had been baptized years before, but "didn't feel any different" .

So two people took me by my arms, and I said "no thank you".

But they said, "no", you have to feel it".
Then they grabbed me more forcefully.

Then I braced myself in the seat and just said "Stop it. Let go of me!"

I turned around and walked out.

After that incident I never went back there. I would not attend any church for 2 years after that.

That's just disgusting behavior.

Witty-Allowishus In reply to JEBurton [2014-04-21 08:26:08 +0000 UTC]

Wow. I'm sorry to hear that. That is a bad experience. I don't blame you for not going to church for two years after that.
For me, it's what Christians have seem to become... I know not all are bad, but the ones who bash the LGBT, and preach about the part in the Bible where it says it's a sin. The last time I attended a service, the pastor brought that up, and it just left a bitterness with me. That, and things I've read and heard that so-called Christians do or say. It makes me want to at least change what title of religion to give myself: like "open-minded Christian" or something.
