the best way to see which patterns work is trial and error and keeping track of feeding patterns, etc. my boyfriend writes a journal entry for EVERY fishing trip so he can keep track of stream activity.

Hey man.
Welcome to the wonderful world of fly tying! You mentioned that you didn't use a vice on one of your flies; I'd really look into one if I were you. It makes things so much easier when you have 2 free hands to work with.
Do you use a bobbin for your thread? Just wondering, as the heads look a bit untidy.
Other than that, you can find some real kickass lessons and patterns on various websites, as you've no doubt found out already. Go here [link] for some good lessons. It's where I began.

First, I want to say thank you for all the wonderful advice and comments on my Fly tying. As of right now I have only been 11 days at it so I'm still very much a novice at it.
As for a vice and thread bobbin, I have neither at this moment =/
Where would you recommend for me to look for these, as well as to what type of vice would work ? I look forward to any future guidance related to fly tying.

If you're near a Wal-Mart, you can check the fishing section for stuff. Sporting goods stores may carry them, or if you're set up for online shopping, there should be an almost unlimited number of places to find one. If you can find someone in your area that makes flies, that would be your best bet to get good info.

First off, I would like to welcome you to DA, I think you're one of the only sincere photographers that I know, that has a talent for photography. Your shots are vibrant and full of colour. They're very appealing to the eye and I really enjoyed looking through them. However, you need to experiment a little more. Seeing as how vibrant your shots are, try working with people, I'll bet you could get some amazing shots. Experiment with borders and contrast, and you can go a long way.

Oye, con todos tus jardines tienes para tomar fotos por siglos. Y con ese amor tuyo por las plantas pues hermosas te quedaran. Danos muchas fotos con los nombre de todas y ayudanos a acercarnos mas a la naturaleza. Me gusto mucho la foto de la planta "Coleus" porque me recuerda que en la finca en Colombia habia muchisimas de ellas.
