You can do either :icon*username*: without the asterisks or @*username without this asterick (for example, :icon*Minty-The-Alpaca*: or @*Minty-The-Alpaca without this astericks) and say you used their art as inspiration/traced/used their base in the description of a deviantation.

XBisparulzX, As far as I see in the comments people say your tracing and stealing.
You should know that almost on any art site stealing is not allowed.
I sometimes trace to help me with my lines and so, Which is really great in fact, but claiming the traced image as your own work is not allowed.
It's actually a bit obvious your lying that it's your art and you had created it youself without tracing because of how your rudely replying to others instead of calmly implying that
you had not traced it. Hopefully this resolves by itself and not getting you banned. People sometimes misunderstand stealing and tracing.
