Pretty soon, I think-- had a bit of a stall in the pony-making business when I ran out of clay. But now I have a new kind of clay! A BETTER kind of clay, one that won't crumble during shipping!
I actually have a couple new ponies that I still need to post on dA, ones that I've made for my students. Part of the reason I haven't been too active lately is that I got a promotion at my job (yay!) that takes up a LOT of my time (not as much yay), but I've got some time off coming up, so I should have time to get a couple new ponies painted.
How have you been? Anything cool happening in the land down under?

just wondering if you have an update on the customs?

I was just wondering; when you unroot the hair, do you use a tool, or just rip it out?

I start by cutting off most of it with scissors, then I work it really close to the skull with nail clippers. If I can manage to pop off the head without damaging the pony, sometimes I pull out the hair from the inside of the head.

Do you have any tips for newbie custom makers? Or at least a good light weight clay for sculpting manes and tails? Your customs are amazing, and I really want to try it.

I use Stonex, but I wouldn't advise using it as a pony-modding clay. It shrinks as it dries and tends to warp and crack around the rigid bodies of the ponies. Creative Paperclay is a good one to use: it air-dries and it's very lightweight. As for paints, you can't go wrong with cheap-o acrylic craft paints. Artist's acrylic paints are often way too thick, but brands like Apple Barrel are just what you need. Also, find a good acrylic "varnish" for your ponies to make them a little moisture-resistant and maybe shiny (if you like shiny ponies).

No worries! How are you supposed to know the answers if you don't ask the questions? It's my fault for not having more info on my front page.
I prefer to be paid through PayPal, but if you can't swing that, I'll accept a mailed check. And I never ask for payment before I've completed a custom. Ideally, the order of events is:
- You place your order
- I give you an estimate
- You confirm your order
- I make the pony
- I post the pictures on dA
- You either deem the pony acceptable, or indicate what kind of adjustments you'd like me to make
- Once you are satisfied with your pony, you pay me
- I ship the pony to you
- Everyone is happy!

Blimey, these are all amazing! Excellent work. I'm trying to get into customs myself but it's pretty tricky seeing as how scarce Ponies are in Britain at the moment, but I'd probably do them brush-able because I'm one of those weird people who actually enjoys ze brushie-brushie.

If you can't find current-generation ponies over there across the pond, you might try buying previous generation ponies on Ebay. There are a lot of people who sell old ponies by the dozen for super cheap prices.

Haha, well I like to act-out the stereotype to be honest, I always tend to use old British slang just 'cause it's fun to.
I've never actually met another British person who says "blimey."
I'd rather be modifying G4s to be honest, mainly because it's the only generation I'm interested in. It doesn't cost me too much to get Ponies over to the UK as long as I buy more than one at a time because the guy at PonyOrders is quite good with prices, normally about $15 for two un-boxed and that would probably still end up cheaper than however much Hasbro decide to sell them for over here. It's just that takes a fair while (normally about two weeks from the day I order) and I don't have easy access to any of the newer stuff either. I want that Princess Luna, consarnit!

You can absolutely order a custom pony! I charge between $20 and $30 for each one, depending on the complexity of the design, plus shipping. I'll customize a pony any way you want, as long as it doesn't involve re-hairing a brushable mane. If a brushable mane is what you're looking for, I can put you in touch with other modders who specialize in those sorts of ponies, too. What would you want in a customized pony?
