What you are opposed to is a POPULAR perception of what you don't quite understand. And as we all know, anything we don't understand has to be bad for you. Right?
When you take controll of your own life, society has a habit of telling tell you that what you're doing is the exact opposite. And sometimes even slandering what you do just so they can TAKE what you've created for themselves, then RE-NAME it so they can be the only game in town. That's called colonializim.
And as you probably guessed someone like me would say, yes, astrology[wich is basically home astronomy] was taken from asian and african nations and re-ARRANGED to fuel the cononial economy. Since the science that you created is now listed as "superstition", witchcraft and more of a belief then a science, your CULTURE'S weath and power has been transferred to them.
And yes, those people do use the stars to guide YOUR future, AND define who you are in life. And even decide how far in life you are allowed to go.
