# About me
Homeschooled my whole life, I've had lots of time to be creative and explore my interests, one of which is film and animation. I'm a self-taught, self-motivated artist with a passion for expressing my creativity. I've had my work shown at the Taos Shortz Film Festival and film competitions such as the 48 Hours Of Hell Video Race. My stop-motion music video Generation Y premiered on MTV Adria and won the Gold Brick award for "best video of 2011". However, my talents don't stop there! I have an eye for photography and graphic design, along with numerous other interests, all of which I probably couldn't fit onto this page.I've always put quality and passion before money or publicity... However, compensation for my work is always appreciated. My goal is to create, share, collaborate on, and promote art of all types. In my opinion, life itself is the most magnificent work of art perceivable by humankind. To be able to not just experience, but capture even a fraction of this masterpiece is one of the greatest things about being human.

But,for being a frikking animator, you deserve more watches and stuff.
Animation it's so cool and incredibly time-consuming.

Haha, thank you. Β Actually part of the reason I favorited your drawing, is because I'm in the process of creating the characters for a new project I'm working on... And I suck at drawing hands.Β

Well,it's kind of the nemesis of artists, along with faces, feet and body proportions.
Well, good luck with animating fingers then...
Can I ask what kind of animation it'll be? (technique used)

Zapamation In reply to CakeSloth [2013-07-26 21:46:06 +0000 UTC]
It's going to be stop motion. The puppets are going to be paper cutouts, I'm trying to mimic the look of 2d animation, but using 3d space. Β It'll make more sense when it's done!

Hi Charlie, just to let you know that your "Puppetz" animation video is now featuring on the IndieGuild homepage. I have linked your name back to your page here to make it easier for people to find you without necessarily going through YouTube.

Wow, your work's amazing, I love stop motion, but I've never had the patience to do big stuff with it.
How do you go about getting everything to move at the speeds you want them to?

Zapamation In reply to Jodie-Woodall [2012-04-07 15:38:03 +0000 UTC]
Thank you! And great question.
Speed control and making movements realistic is one of the hardest things in stop motion, HOWEVER! I've devised a few tricks that help me out.
1. You have to animate in 24fps in order for the motions to look film like. This can be a brutal test of patience, but the results shine through.
2. You have to match how the eye sees motion in real life in order to get that flow, for example. If figure lifts it's arm, you want to have very small movements at the beginning and end of the arms path and slightly larger movements in the middle of the path. When played back, his will give the arm a nice fluid stating and stoping look.
Something that helps me as far as timing goes is I shoot 24fps footage of something moving, like my arm, then I watch it back frame by frame and study the path and speed my arm takes. Then I copy the movements as I animate.
This is a super complex topic, but that's the basics on how to improve!

Those tips are really helpful, thanks
What stopmotion software do you normally use?

Zapamation In reply to Jodie-Woodall [2012-04-08 14:58:45 +0000 UTC]
I've used IStopMotion for every project up until this point. However, I'm going to switch to a program called DragonFrame.

I've used Dragon before, it's pretty good, but I've never actually compared it to other types of stopmotion programmes

Film's amazing, how could anyone fail to fall in love with it? haha
I normally do the usual filming, but after seeing Patrick Boyvin's work, I wanted to learn more about stopmotion. Seeing your work only strengthened my resolved!
The music video with the stick people was excellently done!

Omg, I love Patrick Boyvin! I actually used some of his compositing techniques for the music video! Also, If you haven't heard of Laika before, I would strongly recommend checking out their work. They've been a huge inspiration to me, plus the stuff they do is jaw dropping.
