Hi, I was just wondering if you were still planning on working on the "greater danger" story. Just out of curiosity. It's alright if you can't get to it (I'd still be interested in reading what you had planned though)>

Are you kidding me? DB60 agreed with your comment, and you turn around and insult him? He said the same things you said, with the exception of the lesbian part, and because the hypocrite one disagreed with him, you sent DB60 an out of line comment?
I expect this from , but I though you were more mature than that.
Then XFF called him a β€œWanna-be Christian”? This is a pastor’s son she just insulted. That is the reason why he’s kept his civility.

Guess what, her actions just rendered her a true Christian Idiot!

You know that apologizing to him would be the Christian thing to do. He didn’t do anything to deserve the comment you sent him.

BD60 tried to use my words to support an attack on the character of my friend.

Oh and I find it ironic since your "brethren Bro" Character who is so obviously based on me is always accused of butting in yet you do the same thing for your friend BD60. I however won't condemn you for defending your friend because that is what friends do. It should be expected and praised. So good for you for defending your friend even if I don't agree with them or you on this issue.

I pretty much expected this response.

Well, since you said the same thing DB60 said, you also attacked her character. But, if you can justify your actions, so be it.

Please look at what your doing, trying to play a semantics game to support adult sexual relations with children. Are you so desensitized to the horrific and perverse deeds of Muhammad's that you see absolutely nothing wrong with this? Do you not hear the little voice that tells you in your soul that something is wrong. Not the decrees of a religion but the conscience written on your heart. Can you still hear that voice? I plead with you to listen to it.

I'm saying don't you see how insane that your attempting to argue a case for child adult sexual relations instead against it.

P.S. a legal marriage does not make a sex act between a man in his 50s with a 9 yr old moral anymore than a legal marriage between two men makes their sex moral.

Zeros-Shift In reply to xiangrei [2008-05-21 07:25:51 +0000 UTC]

Tabari’s narratives do not have the distinction to be known Sahih. Even if we assumed that these narratives are not forged, there is no reason to discard the numerous hadithes narrated by Aisha herself that confirm she was a small child when she married Muhammad.

The Uhud battle is a weak excuse, she didn't go as a warrior in which case young boys were not allowed to go she went to keep Muhammad warm during the nights.

You know some Muslims would accuse your kowtowing to Western values for trying to shoot for a higher age of Aisha.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

xiangrei In reply to Zeros-Shift [2008-05-22 01:28:14 +0000 UTC]

Like al-Bukhari, al-Tabari is one of the greatest Islamic scholars, and he is not the only scholar to take this position. The designation of Sahih is not an indication of the objective accuracy of hadith but rather its acceptance by later authorities (not the author) who lay it down as sect doctrine (in this case the Sunni), later generations taking it for granted on assumption of infallibility. The brilliance of a scholar is not positively correlated with accuracy of his compilations. For example, nobody can deny the greatness of Stephen Hawking as a scientist but some of his theories did come to be questioned in later times, including by himself. Such is the nature of science, and hadith study itself is a science. A further example is how al-Bukhari includes hadith which advocate capital punishment for adultery and fornication, which is explicitly contradicted by the Quran. Furthermore it has already been said that historical records were not as thoroughly authenticated as those of religious teachings.

It is a fallacy to state that hadiths are by person 'x' or person 'y'; there can only be attribution. This is because there are practically no hadith which survive from the time of the Prophet himself. Thus hadith 'quoting' Aisha (or indeed, any other person) are not records of what they said as such as they are putting words into the mouths of people by others who did not know them and were not even alive at the time. Such narratives must be cross-checked with other sources. The Uhud battle excuse indeed is capable of going both ways, but it is neither the main nor the only reason. The al-Bukhari collection also contains hadith which support a more advanced age for Aisha so if we use the logic that whatever is in al-Bukhari is good, then we must also give consideration to these other hadith. The hadith are not of divine origin so it is imperative that we apply the standards of stringent analysis in determining their veracity. The Quran is my yardstick, I do not maintain my position out of a felt need to justify myself to non-Muslims but rather an appreciation of the importance of good practice in regards to academic procedure. I care not if some Muslims accuse me of being a turncoat nor do I believe in the Huntingtonesque dichotomisation of values as being either 'Occidental' or 'Oriental'.

Zeros-Shift In reply to xiangrei [2008-05-22 06:48:25 +0000 UTC]

Well I hope you shoot for the higher age of Aisha because the thought of a man in his 50s sexually assaulting a small child disturbs you as much as it does me. Unlike Ms. Jihad who was so quick to defend the more widely held view of Aisha's young age. Indeed such a vehement defense of something so disgusting is a testament to the blind loyalty that silences ones conscience.
