same here you have your very own style, and it was very nice to have met you, and have become friends. It is awesome when you can talk to other artist and just watch what they come up with. sometimes im just blown away with what others can do and try and replicate some of their techniques and become a better artist myself. Same with tattoos. If you arent learning new stuff then its just going to burn you out.

Thanx... thats whats so awesome about deviant... some of the best pieces I've ever seen have been on here and not sure if you ever read juxtapoz... used to get those lots in highschool and it for sure influenced my style. Drawing is the only thing thats ever kept me grounded and given me a sence of purpose. And your right you can never stop learning ... someone said to me the day you stop learning is the day your no longer alive.

Thats for sure this site has given me alot of reference material for my tattoo work, and in high school I was in art all four years and graduated at the top of my class, but I drew for my whole life it just helped me to get a better sense of how to shade and blend and all that good stuff, but that is a very good quote there. My grandpa said that to me once and it never made sense until I got really in depth with arts

noticatoxin In reply to ace-layin-frame [2012-11-21 08:47:18 +0000 UTC]

Your grandpa sounds like a smart man... my grandpa was my biggest inspiration he collected art books and was an artisan... I used to watch him paint most of what I learned was time with him. He painted the starry night over and over in his last years trying to perfect it ... I one day will get the starry night tattooed as a tribute to him. <3

I like that. I would be more than honored to do that for you when the shop is open. I am doing a big battle ship on the right side of my stomach for my grandpa and im going to put uss minnetonka for the ship he served on and then some car stuff for my other grandfather. I am doing more tribute pieces than I have room to put them haha, or atleast spots that I want to hold off of for as long as possible haha. Im just all out of space on the easy spots haha.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

noticatoxin In reply to ace-layin-frame [2012-11-21 08:58:44 +0000 UTC]

yeah one only has so much space... I have too much. I like that idea for a tribute piece too it will look good on you... battle ships make awesome tattoos. If I don't get my tattoo soon then I'd love for you to do it... it's going to be like a painting mind you no outline on my left arm.... then the arm is going to be filled with stars from different artists ... like a dream piece and each artist gets to make a wish on the star he/she puts upon my arm and it will be up to them how the design each star I want them to have the artists originality in each one.

I love that idea haha I just got all excited haha, but yeah my grandparents have always been my inspiration and they have always taught me alot of stuff my parents couldnt show me because they were both kind of workaholics but they have also been around me giving me inspiration on different things too

noticatoxin In reply to ace-layin-frame [2012-11-21 09:11:51 +0000 UTC]

Awesome... smiles... happy your excited. you most definitely should do one of my stars. Yeah same never saw much of my father growing up so the bits and pieces learned are valued and my mom is wonderful but grandparents seem to know oh so much... guess that comes with age. So how did you get started in tattoos and setting up in a shop?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ace-layin-frame In reply to noticatoxin [2012-11-21 09:18:05 +0000 UTC]

Well I started apprenticing for one guy at his house, I know it was kind of sketchy, but I was learning none the less and about two months later the guy that im opening this shop up with became an apprentice along side me and after almost a year it was not an apprenticeship anymore. We were just sitting around not tattooing, but just drinking beers and I was the only one with a car and had to do alot of chores and stuff but my old boss went back to doing meth and was just dragging me down, because of his tattoo work being bad we were getting a bad reputation around town so we quit and decided we were better off just going straight into business, and again I would be deeply honored to do any tattoos for you.

noticatoxin In reply to ace-layin-frame [2012-11-21 09:31:53 +0000 UTC]

ok cool... like you said it was learning none the less. awesome your starting a shop too I'm just teaching myself so not the proper way but I am doing my research making sure it's proper as I will only do to others what I'd do to myself. Working on a portfolio to attempt getting an apprenticeship ... haven't tried in years. And I'd be happy to have you tattoo me.

Well if you can let me get in the shop and get steady I would love to start an apprentice, just need to get a shop and get a good client list going and I would love to let you come down and we will talk to my business partner. were in california so it may be a big move for you though. I would love to teach people to tattoo and share a passion that I have for the art. Its tattooed on the back of my left leg. Says owned by the art and i try to live by that rule.

noticatoxin In reply to ace-layin-frame [2012-11-21 09:49:01 +0000 UTC]

sweet... maybe I'll take you up on that one day... I live away from my family as it is and a move may not be a bad thing... not in any position to do so now but in the future I could see it... and I would like to get more experience too as I want a fuller portfolio to show. I like that tattoo , good on you. It's nearly 3am here and I should get some sleep before work , had a wonderful time chatting with you ... nice to have been on here at the same time to do so. You have a good night and I look forward to more conversations *smiles*

Thank you, actually do you have any advice on getting a stencil to hold up better to being wiped? I do the speedstick then carbon application.... I found dabbing the speedstick before application helps but still not fantastic. I appreciate you being so very nice.... your so in my good books.

Its no problem.do you have a email address that I can get ahold of you on? Just so I can tell you but if someone else comes across, they wont be able to start going off and using any tricks of the trade. If that makes sense. I can also show you how to set certain things up to get going full force and maintain all your equipment.

awesome... yeah nothing makes me as happy as tattoos.... I've gotten to see lots as I work in a very busy retail automotive store... was shy at first and I'd just look all inconspicuous but now I get into big long conversations with people about tattoos I love it. Seen everything from the old people in their 80's with mermaid chest pieces or war time tattoos to modern vivid bright pieces.... one of my favorites was this girl in the midst of a cover up she had some writing she as covering up with a skull and it wasn't done but I loved it the way it was the overlapping was a real neat effect.

Yeah I got into tattoos because my grandpa has 4 and they were always so cool to me and the stories behind them. Then he said he spent 25 dollars on all of them when he was in vietnam. If the tattoo isnt your style there will always be an amazing back story behind each one. Good or bad. I mean I got a banana peel on the back of my shoulder and it says dont tread on me, not because im violent but because im just crazy in a fun way haha and I will stick up for me and mine.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

noticatoxin In reply to ace-layin-frame [2012-11-22 08:14:58 +0000 UTC]

Thats pretty fun... good to have some fun ... doesn't come across as a violent tattoo to me at all. more so what you described it as sticking up for you and yours. Cant say anyone in my family has tattoos other than me... unfortunately they see them as something of criminals and low life's ... So I was always discouraged of my passion... took years before I finally got tattoos but now I'm changing perspectives and my family is starting to see the reasoning and meaning for it and it makes me so happy that I am doing what I love and not getting scolded for it.

ace-layin-frame In reply to noticatoxin [2012-11-22 08:22:05 +0000 UTC]

I know exactly what you mean. My parents and my grandparents didnt want me to but after they seen how much better I was doing with tattoos than manual labor, they started to change their mind sets about it but because of too many people getting them around here for gang related reasons it just has to be something that isnt intimidating or anything that might possibly make someone want to try and show off and call someone out because of them, but alot of people just dont care anymore around here

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

noticatoxin In reply to ace-layin-frame [2012-11-22 09:00:53 +0000 UTC]

yeah exactly if you get tattoos for reason that nobody can single you out your pretty ok... people wear clothing more offensive than tattoos nowadays. It's all about expression a reflection of oneself. Best to follow your dreams... you'll never go wrong that way.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ace-layin-frame In reply to noticatoxin [2012-11-22 09:08:11 +0000 UTC]

you can never go wrong when you are chasing a dream just also got to remember what is important also, because I almost lost alot trying to stick with tattooing for my old boss. I would rather lose an apprenticeship than my children or wife, but now that I have been given a second chance with tattoos and being in a shop and being a legit business man I am following it full force and not stopping until my last breath has been taken.
