Other Interests: music, art, nature, people, japanese language# About me
I was born in Montana and raised in the Rocky Mountains. I studied musical performance and studio art at the University of Idaho and moved to Japan in 2007 where I have been doing live painting at numerous musical events. My work seeks to capture the expressive and
emotional space of music, dreams, and powerful feelings. Each painting is a catalyst to unlock the ecstasy, rage, confusion, fear, satisfaction, and
fascination of key moments, using color, light and form. It is meant to open doors to each individual’s lexicon of perceptions, tugging at the unconscious strings which help every person understand the work differently based on his or her foundation of life experiences and inclinations. I hope that each viewer can participate in the creative process by tapping into that infinite space we all carry with us. The place we find when we listen to music on the train, are drawn into a story, dance, love, daydream, create. Like a melody ringing with rhythm and color and unlimited by absolute truth, the paintings celebrate the universal by utilizing the unique. To communicate, to feel.

Goodbye DeviantArt:Goodbye DeviantArt:
I have had a very good run here of over 11 years. They were good times. You folks have been there to get me through some of the hardest times of my life.
You were there when I felt lost and alone over losing my job as an illustrator because we were just not needed anymore. You gave me a home of sorts when no one else would.
Six months later when the same newspaper decided that they no longer needed me as a photographer either and laid me off you were there.
When I found out that my wife was dying a very slow and painful death, you were there. As a healthcare provider you were often my only respite. In dark times you brought joy into my life.
When Joanne passed away you were there to help me remember what G.K. Chesterton once said. “Fairy tales do not tell children the dragons exist. Children already know that dragons exist. Fairy tales tell children the dragons can be killed.” I have found wisdom in even the youngest of you time and time again. :thumb721

they're black-light responsive acrylics on raw high-quality black canvas. these paints are actually quite limited, color-wise, so it's a constant challenge to make the limited palette work. but they do glow really nicely in black light.
they look more like ordinary colors in pictures, so if you're using normal paints i think the secret is just working on a black background. use bright, saturated colors. avoid too much white, even though you're painting on black. play with different tools and brushes to see what you can make. anyway, good luck and welcome to deviantart.

i'm new to art, and i really like your pastel work. i was wondering where you get your inspiration from, other than songs?

dreams... my head... and of course, i'm inspired by other artists, too. i honestly suggest going to exhibitions. actually being able to see the work of master artists up close.
for the pastel work, i was allowing myself to draw fluidly without worrying too much about realism. good luck
