Hi I found may way here through your YouTube channel.
First off you do some awesome model work. Second thanks for opening my eye to a lot of issues in paleo scene. For some time I felt that something was off and watching your videos was pretty much the showed me my scepticism was right. I was one of these people that just at up any idea without looking at the facts but in resent years I've taken a greater intreast in the true science of dinosaurs and it's had me questioning a lot of what the "community" consider "facts".
Speaking of trends, with it seems were moving from "proto-feather" to lips. I first came across this with Trey the Explainer and his video on Dunkleosteus. I tried to look up were the idea came from but couldn't find any real paper on the subject at the time. What started this whole lips trend?

It just shows the importance of not getting too emotionally attached to a concept. Just look at it as it is, appreciate for what it is, have fun coming up with some scenarios there and then based on what the data suggests, but always seperate facts from wishful thinking or what not.
One of the issues we still have unfortunately is that those very voices of authority we turn to frequently have been guilty of this type of trend promotion and willful ignorance themselves, instead of simply letting the data and the science do all the work for them (as it should be). It does not of course strip their credibility in regards to research breakthrough they have contributed to the community, but fact is a fact - when you ignore reality and start prioritising with your wishful thinking or supporting masses who promote trends instead of actually educating them, that is not something I will ever get behind or respect. And with respect to all their contributions to the filed or to the community of paleoart (depending who we refer to), I will refrain from pointing my fingers to names and such.Β
Lips trend has actually happened a long time ago even when Charles Knight did his depictions, it was around that time period somewhere, but then it died off. Another one happened as recently as 2015-16, when some Canadian scientist proposed the idea that theropods needed to keep their teeth moist hence why they needed to cover them. What this argument fails to address is that even crocodilomorphs spend only about half (or less) amount of time in water, there were many terrestrial crocodilomorphs. And also, pterosaurs being the extant archosaurs also did not have "lips", just as well as marine mammals still have them despite the proposed argument of "not needing them because they were semi aquatic". Also, lack of physical fossil evidence is the main part, where they try to shoehorn the idea of "absence of evidence is not evidence of absence", which I grow tired of constantly addressing and explaining, cause it is really simple. Its this whole idea of "oversimplyfying the complicated" and "overcomplicating the simple" that breeds many other problems of this sort.

I cannot view his stuff, since he blocked me. And I know he talks trash behind my back, but I honestly couldn't care less, I would not have even known of it if somebody hasnt posted me direct links to his twitch stream sessions, where the guy can't even come up with a worthy insult lol.
If he has something to take out on me, he can always debate me live. Otherwise, I am busy

I'm happy for Saurian, genuinely am. If they deliver the product that truly matches their claim on accuracy and make it so anybody can actually go out there and verify their claims, I will support them. As for RJ's unprofessional behaviour, I will just leave him to it until he stops blocking everybody who disagrees with him, mans up and decides to engage me in an open live debate. For anything less than that - I am busy
