Also, what do you think of the Harry Potter films (sorry, movies)? I think the recent ones have been great but I wasnt a fan of the older ones at all. I saw the first two again fairly recently, they are terrible. In my opinion.
I just find then hard to watch, bad acting, cheesy lines.
But the recent ones have been darker, more serious. much better movies. and the acting has improved, if only slightly. Of the three of them for me, Rupert Grint is clearly the best actor. Far and away. He is genuinely good. Emma Watson isn't too bad, but she is absolutely beautiful! Like seriously stunning! which is enough to make up for it xD But Daniel Radcliffe (is that his surname? something like that) isnt really up to much. But it's not bad enough to detract from the film, or the story. anymore. It used to be. I used to cringe at the acting of the old ones, genuinely found them hard to watch.
Looking forward to the last film though.
And I am only really approaching HP as a film fan, I haven't read the books since Chamber of Secrets. I might have got part way into the third one, which was that? Prisoner of Azkaban. And I read the last book backward but only the last 3 chapters so i dont think either of those really count xD
I'm much more a fan watching movies than reading books.

so ive been waiting til i had time to reply to this so i could do it in full lol.
ok, i am a total book nerd. normally i pick on people who only watch the movies and not read the books, but atleast you tried to read them haha.
do you say films instead of movies normally?
so i actually think the opposite of you, i like the first two movies best. looking at it from the book perspective, i think theres less information to put in to the first two movies, and thats why i think i like them more, because they didnt leave alot out. also i wasnt such a book freak back then. i absolutely do not like the rest of the movies because of so much that is left out. i could write a book with how much is left out. i actually cant understand how everyone can know whats going on with what little information they give you in the recent movies. they dont even tell you that harrys dad and his friends made the marauders map!
im such a nerd for harry potter, i could go on forever about it lol.
yeah, prisoner of azkaban was 3. lol, how can you read a book backwards? -_-
haha
but if you want to talk about a movie with bad acting, i think twilight is the way to go lol. i cringe at bellas horrid acting. THAT is bad enough for me to distract from the film.
i cant really say ive noticed the bad acting in HP though, now that i think about it, probably because im focusing more on what they left out.
even though i say all of this, i am still very excited for the last one to come out. i know its just going to make me disappointed though, which is a bad way to look at it i know, but i feel like every time i get worked up and excited to see the new movie coming out, i walk out of the theatre pissed off with all the stuff they leave out.
what im really excited for, is harry potter world. THAT is something worth going to, i think.

Yes, I think ignorance is bliss for me in this situation. The fact that I don't know the story from the books helps me enjoy the films (yes, we say films rather than movies) even more. I realise that a lot is missed out from the books, so many people say this xD but if you don't know the books then its not something you miss, as you don't know it was there. Hence me suggesting ignorance is bliss. Sometimes its better not to know.
I'm not saying the films are better, far from it, I'm 100% sure the books are better than the films. But in this case, having not read the books helped m to enjoy the films in their entirety.
And the later films have much better atmosphere, directing, action, acting, actors, characters...just everything about the later films make them better for me.
Reading is something I haven't really enjoyed ever. I much prefer the instant gratification of motion picture. And so when it came to the last book, I kinda knew I was never going to read it all, and so I just read the last chapter. That didn't give me enough so I also read the chapter before, and so on for a few chapters. I read up to the massive battle between the whole school and Voldermort (i think thats what it was right) I seem to remember Ron's mum getting involved or something like that. And then it got boring again after that so i stopped reading. So i had read the last few chapters in reverse order xD (sorry, you'll hate me for that. haha). In my defence, we were on holiday and my mum had just finished reading it and I had got bored of building epic sand sculptures and so picked up the book to read a bit. I wouldn't have read any of it if i had done it any other way xD
And yes, the acting in Twilight is also questionable. But then the book is also terrible, I read the first few chapters (someone had it at work so i read a bit on my lunch break) and is is terrible. Bella is clearly a miserable character who doesn't care for much in life other than Edward...and it would seem, Jacob. But I think Kristen actually plays the part quite well. And even if her acting in it is a bit shit, I like to think that's a conscious decision to reflect the quality of the book
I'm going to defend her, as you know I like her. She was good in Welcome to the Rileys, Adventureland, and The Runaways too. (all of which were better films than the twilight ones)

i understand what you mean completely because i am the same way with the lord of the rings films. i was in love with the movies, and i only just started reading the books. i like the books, but i still love the films.
haha, youre totally right (well i dont HAte you, but..) that stuff boggles my mind! how can you do that? i could never imagine it lol. i sometimes get impatient and skip over the details like what something looks like or whatever, but i can never ever read the last chapter first. i LOve reading, ever since i can remember ive been reading.
i think that people who are unsatisfied with their lives are more prone to reading, and vice versa. but thats actually another discussion in itself lol.
haha, i didnt think the twilight books were that bad, i dont know what everyones on about with that talk. i think ive pinpointed why i dont like kristens acting though. all she does is frown, in every movie she plays in, and for the whole movie. she never really smiles in films. shes a dreary character who frowns and doesnt say much and stutters when she does (for character form, not her own)
it bothers me. lol
yeh, i finally watched adventureland, and i think she only fit in that movie because the whole film had a kind of dreary feel to it

Haha, okay so im approaching this message well over a month late. sorry xD Can't even remember what we were discussing but here we go.
I don't think it's a case of people who are unsatisfied with their life like to read. Not at all. I think we all have our means to escape our lives, whether it be reading books, listening to music, playing video games etc. They all offer an escape, a place where we can spend hours at a time in an alternate world. Where the problems, and restraints of the real world don't exist.
This has got all meaningful out of nowhere, but you see what I mean. I think we all like to 'get away' and to some extent this is due to not entirely being satisfied with ones life.
Haha, yes okay. She IS the same in ALL her films (i originally wrote movies here, but my spellcheck didn't acknowledge it as a word, I like my English thinking computer xD). Although she has been cast in an upcoming rendition of Snow White. It will be interesting to see how she plays that role. Having said that, I fear that it will be a dark and moody rendition of the disney classic. And so she will remain the same character. Only time will tell.
Also she was in Into The Wild. You should watch that, great film. And she is not in it for all that much so she cant ruin it for you

haha its cool, i think were both taking our time with this discussion.
yeah, i only say that because thats how i used to feel when i was younger, i would read because i was a nerd/loser with no friends and such. you know, super emo stuff lol
but now that you say that, i agree with you more. its just a temporary escape.
i shall blame myself for making this meaningful out of nowhere lol. i tend to do that at time :/
i think that is crazy that your computer is all english-ized and doesnt see the word movie as a real word! its fascinating lol. the snow white movie would be really good if tim burton makes it i think. i shall make a note to see it when its out, and ill think of you when i watch it!
haha, if shes not in Into The Wild that much, then i think i can handle it XD

Don't blame yourself for anything. I love a good deep conversation from time to time. Keeps you thinking.
To be honest I have no idea why my computer software doesn't consider movie a proper word.
A Tim Burton Snow White would be awesome, I love a bit of Burton. Alice was a great film too. As well as his more obvious ones, I watched Edward Scissorhands again the other day, I love Winona Ryder in that film. So pretty too.
Into the Wild is good, it's a little slow and not a whole lot happens but I enjoyed it, not all films have to be full of action from start to finish to be enjoyable.

angeliscool In reply to lloveandsqualor [2011-10-11 22:55:09 +0000 UTC]
definitely.
ill start using the word film from now on, instead of movie
Winona ryder is awesome. So is the movie Edward Scissorhands! Snow White is on the way, but im not seeing too much news about it.
I just recently moved into my brothers, who has the movie Into the Wild. He said that it wasnt a very good movie, it was really slow and boring. Now that you've said that and i have the chance to see it, im definitely watching it tonight!

Oh, let me know what you think of Into The Wild. I guess it depends of what kind of person you are and if you can on with slow films, cos it is slow. Cracking little film though.
