Attack hug!    Hope you're doing okay, my friend? You seem to have vanished again...

Yeah I know. Too much going on in my life at the moment. But I've finally got some art books from my friend to help me get started on the basics of drawing and artwork. Now I just need to buy myself some sketchbooks and some pencils.

Aww, hopefully it's a good kind of life hectic, and not a bad? Hang in there, my friend! It is nice to see you back on dA, though, and I'm super-excited to hear you're pushing forward with art! Can't wait to see what you start sketching!

Who can I ask or where can I post to draw certain styles or characters? Specifically I wan to learn about anime.

Oh, anime is perhaps the biggest style on here, or at least one of the most popular. There's a ton of Groups and resources, but I guess the best place to start looking would be the dA Headquarters Group CRAnimeAndManga . However, I might recommend starting at the basics, the fundamentals of drawing on a whole, before trying to adapt to one style or theme. I started in anime as a hobbyist, and all my flaws were from not learning the proper techniques early on. I've gotten so much better since focusing on ground zero, especially anatomy, and whereas I started drawing from reference photos, I feel I no longer need them (or at least not as often). See here for where I started, and some links: Foundation . This Group also seems to have a lot of broken-down help lists: Drawing-tutorial .

You might also ask my good friend MizDawesome as she is an anime/manga style artist and has been devotedly self-teaching herself the art form; she probably knows more thorough means and communities. She's very helpful, encouraging, and sweet herself, too!

Good luck!! And don't be shy to upload works in progress and sketches and ask for critiques or guidance. I'm excited to see what you draw.

Thank you so much for thinking of me!
I don't know too much about anime groups here that would be more helpful. The general advice I get is to mostly just post stuff to a lot of groups in general However, as usual, I'm always happy to help out a fellow artist by sharing the knowledge I've gained so far

Aww, you're welcome! I'm actually astounded I don't know more anime artists here. I guess I've been spending too much time in the superhero and dark theme circles. XD

XD I'm sure there are some dark animes out there! Attack on Titan seems like something you might like (I haven't seen it myself yet, but I need to know what the hype is about and I need to know the story and characters better so I can draw fan art for my bf and friends who love it XD)

Haha, yeah, there are dark anime and they're some of my favorites! Like Berserk, AKIRA, Kakurenbo, and Pet Shop of Horrors, very dismal and twisted (and sometimes gross). XD I guess I should have said "macabre semi-realism", because that's what I've been looking at learning a lot more of, like the painterly thing I tried with my Witch-boy speedpaint.

I refuse to watch Attack on Titan for at least another five years. It's much too hyped up and I don't want the trending popularity to jade me. That's what I did with Death Note and I'm so glad because I was able to enjoy and appreciate it with a clear mind. And it was awesome!

Oh I was lent AKIRA by my friend's bf. I still haven't watched it yet but I hear it's good I just think I would need to be in the mood for a more serious movie and that rarely happens
How's your speedpainting coming along? Or your art learning in general? Learn anything good lately?

So the type of art you want to be doing is like.. dark atmosphere with a touch of subtle goriness or something like that? Or like you know, something that would point to a bigger picture but that is almost as subtle as sub-text? :3
I feel like that would be your kind of thing.

Well I know that maybe you don't want to be let down by the hype but it's been out for a while and still pretty popular. I think the good thing about it would be that you would maybe be able to find a lot of good fanfics and artworks about it while it's still popular, you know? Wouldn't be hard to find stuff afterwards.

Oh man, I tell everybody to watch AKIRA, it's just a classic and utterly dark and beguiling! Although, to be honest, I'm not sure you'd enjoy it. It's heavy and a total mind-fuck, and the violence is rather unforgiving. Definitely one of my favorite anime, and the debut role of my all-time favorite seiyuu, Nozomu Sasaki.

Uh, I haven't been keeping up with the speed-painting practice. It's a good idea, but I'm running low on motivation. I hadn't done any since my Klarion piece, but the other day I did play with some painting brushes in Sketchbook and made an image of Asami (the Runaways). I sketch from time to time, but not much else currently in the form of art-ing. How about you? Get any chance to draw since re-starting back at work?

Haha, yeah, I enjoy art like this , but for whatever reason I don't have that sense of macabre creativity. You're right, I do like psychologically messed up, twisted, and dark ideas that have a deeper message to it. Things that make you face your fears, and explore them to the core.

Yeah, I'm still seeing way too much Attack on Titans fan-stuff around, so I'm still avoiding it like the plague. Really? I would think the more trendy something is, the harder it would be to find honestly good fanfics about it; the archives are flooded! Here, all the AoT fics seems to be those "by Reader" romances, which I'm not into. Artwork is easier because all the popular artists of course draw from it, like sakimichan (that's how you keep yourself in the current spotlight XD).

Thanks! I'm still fairly new to deviantart and I'm just getting started on my first project. Hopefully I'll have more to come.
