Hi Candy, the original is a photo by Paul Hesse, who was a great photojournalist of the 1950's-60's.I imported it into PSE. and put more colour where I thought needed. I then reversed out the bits I didn't want, used inks to accentuate the contours I wanted, and then used brushes and clones to create the painted effect.
With Impasto, you're trying to create a "pasted" effect, a kind of 3-d... not sure I've mastered it yet 
Still experimenting, which I suppose is the fun of it?
