Played it, finished it, loved it.

I prefer the story and characters of Xillia but that's just down to taste. Berseria feels like the better game and the battle system is better.

The world of Berseria isnt as memorable as Xillia but again i think thats down to taste. I prefer the cooking in Xillia too.

Im very happy that Berseria was decent. It came very close to toppling Xillia.

I think it might have beaten Xillia for me, but I'm glad you liked it after Xillia 2 and Zestiria didn't capture your interest. Couldn't help but wonder as I played! (I haven't quite finished though.)

Yeah. It was very hard to figure out if it actually topped Xillia for me. I had to really weigh it up and ended up looking at them so closely.

I think some of it is because i have such a connection with Xillia with it being my first Tales game. I think Berseria is the better game to play but Xillia's story and characters drew me in more and thats what i favour most in a game.

However Rokurou and Eizen are awesome. I tried not to like Eizen knowing what happens to him but i couldnt help it.

Yeah, Eizen is really likeable despite being a jerk sometimes, and it's sad knowing how he's going to end up. I still haven't finished the main story, but I do wonder how many of them are going to make it through.

Yeah, his reaper curse is hilarious.

I think my one major complaint with the game is fast travelling. It was so much easier in Xillia. When you do it in Berseria it doesnt tell you where on the map it is and youre not able to warp straight to dungeons so it can be a bit of a bugger getting around.

Let me know what you thought about the story when youre finished

I finished!

I really enjoyed the story. When I heard that Velvet was going to be more of an anti-hero than a beacon of light like Sorey, I was sure they were going to compromise on it and that the story was going to be the same sort of hero's journey, where she ends up grumbling a little and being threatening, but ultimately almost a standard video game hero. I really liked that they didn't do that. Velvet, not to mention Rokurou, Eizen and Magilou, all remained morally ambiguous at best until the end, and they did some pretty terrible things without really caring about it as long as it got them what they wanted.

Now I need to find out why Milla's and Jude's names were in the credits...

Yeah. The ending REALLY depressed me. Velvet got next to no resolution, her quest for vengeance was pointless because her brother was actually a twat and doing it of his own accord. She did do horrible things and part way through the game i realised that she was going to have things end rather badly for her because of all she had done. It was very odd playing as a character who, by the end of the game, was actually a mass murderer.

The bit that i felt was the most flimsy was in the earthpulse where Velvet was going crazy, it was intense but when the dungeon is done she is fine. I know she had to recover but it was kind of like with Milla in Xillia 'the world is saved, bye Jude' *poof*

But yeah. It was a very un-Tales like story and was refreshing. I recently loaded Xillia and was actually amazed at how different it felt and looked to Berseria. Berseria really is a good step up.

Yeah. Good luck solving the credits mystery. I just did not long ago.

I made it a little way into the bonus dungeon before realising I really couldn't be bothered with it. Something about it just sapped away the considerable enthusiasm I had for the game. I still loved it, but... I really have no motivation to do that part.

The extra dungeon is an utter bastard and i hate it. I want the hotspring costumes, but i have the expedition swimsuits so theyre good enough.

Did Zavied feel forced in to you during the story btw? I didnt finish Zestiria but know he is in it. I dont know much about him but he felt a bit crow- barred to me.

A little bit. Zestiria mentioned that Zaveid knew Eizen, so I suppose it made sense to have him show up in Berseria. He was the last main cast member in Zestiria but I never really took to him that well. I was hoping Berseria would make me like him more but it didn't.

Have you seen the original version of Laphi's death? What do you think of the censored version?

Yeah, I've seen it, and I'm not sure which I prefer. The original was a pretty brutal scene, but I liked the dramatic imagery of the giant X in the censored version. I'm not really that bothered by it either way. What did you think?

I liked the original better its much more intense and is more visually stunning.

However i dont have a problem at all with the new one. I actually got into a debate with some people when they were bitching about censorship and i had to point out that they were campaigning to watch child murder....

I didn't know it had been replaced until I'd almost finished the game. I can kind of see why some people might want the original, and it definitely has a powerful impact, but I'm fine with either.

Nah. Not going to either, not giving Sony my details considering how often they get hacked, so I wont be able to play the after story dlc which will annoy me if I don't.

Also, from what I've seen the game is a technical nightmare, the engine doesn't hold up and the battle system is trash and the camera is horrendous.

Plus none of the characters appeal to me.

I think Berseria might get a chance, but I'll follow it closely before going for it. The Tales series is just as lop-sided as Zelda when it comes to games I like.
