SAKURIEEEEE I can't believe I didn't know this was you SO SORRY. I'm totally inactive on dA.
It's lovely seeing you again though, I've missed you so much<3 Your art is beautiful as always! Also, thank you so much for the invite to the SS event~ I'm so excited to be a part of it!

FUN-CHAAAAAAAAAN <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
It's totally my fault for switching usernames so no worries! ; U ;Β
I missed you too!!!! And don't even mention my art, your art is just WOW! Your style keeps evolving in such spectacular ways! *3*Β
Thank you for joining the SS event! I was really worried that it wouldn't take off but I'm so happy some of the old TheO family like yourself can get back together ;;;3;;;Β
How have you been? How's life been treating you? ^^

Aw thank you!! ;u; I'm working really hard to improve~ I'm so glad you like it!!
I can't want to see some old faces<3 I'm still on theO, but for years it's been super quiet. xD This SS event will be amazing!
I've been great! I'm in my first year of college and I'm majoring in studio arts. What about you?

YUP! Improvement is very apparent in your art style! >U< Have you been experimenting with your style by the way? I see some realism and some not-quite-anime-but-I-cant-think-of-a-word-for-it style 8D
I'm excited too! X3 I was kinda sad to find that a couple people have left their DA and TheO though. ;U;Β
OH! THAT'S EXCITING! I'm so glad to hear you went for the studio arts major <3 I wish I had back in freshman year, but I was talked out of it by my family.. there's not a day that I don't regret it, but I'm still taking individual art classes if I am able to get into the waitlist. ;u; I'm in my last year of college so I'm just about wrapping up on classes so I have more free units to do so. lol Β How are you liking the major so far? I know studio arts is a broad topic- are you doing mainly into the digital or traditional medium, or experimenting with both? Β

sabishiidesu13 In reply to behindsmiles [2014-10-20 23:55:27 +0000 UTC]
Thank you!!<33 Yes I have been! I took my first formal art class my senior year of high school, so through that I was able to get a lot of exposure to traditional media and more familiar with realism. Throughout some of sophomore year and most of junior year I had this phase where I just barely drew anything and was scared that no one would take me seriously since I drew anime-ish (even though I had practiced a lot on realistic bodies);;; BUTT I got things rolling again and I found a nice medium between anime and realism xD I like realism a lot but whenever I draw it IT DOESN'T LOOK RIGHT and that may be because of years of anime LOL. I just need more practice~
Yeah I know what you mean ;o; Thankfully, I was able to reconnect with some friends through tumblr
Aww man I'm glad you're finding some time to take some art classes though! What kind of art classes are you taking? My major has been a ton of fun so far, and I'm learning so much! I want to be a concept artist when I grow up, and that job usually requires a good foundation in traditional. I'm using my studio art major to basically learn everything I can about art. XD I haven't been able to develop my traditional skills until recently because all I had was photoshop (Parents thought that if I wanted to draw I could just use a pencil sob). I'm planning on moving down to a University next year though since right now I'm at community college! And my community college is great and all but the town is so small and isolated from the bigger cities (I live in Texas and Dallas, Austin, Houston, etc. are 6+ hours away from me). So even though there's a lot of great artists in town, there's just not much more I can do here if I stay any longer;;; The drawing classes don't have the budget for live models unless you're in Drawing III (Which means I would have to wait like two more semesters ;o, and I tried signing up for a Human figure drawing class outside of my regular college classes but it was cancelled since barely anyone else signed up. And then I really can't take formal digital painting classes since it's not available at my community college;;;;
But yeah! I'm doing my best to learn everything and anything. I'm even taking a ceramics class this semester lol. Hopefully though, if I can move down to Austin, I'll be around some animation studios and I can get an internship.
What's your major? Do you have any plans after college?

Gah! Sorry for the delay in reply! Busy work week. >n<
I think your art looks perfect in that mixed blend of style situated somewhere between anime and realism! It's very distinctive and recognizable as your own style- I've honestly never seen anything like it. X3 And I saw your art being featured on a bulletin board addressing stereotyping- that was freakin awesome!!!Β
That's exciting that you're moving to a university area next year. <3 It's been a long while ago since I've been to Texas, but I hope there's a lot of city/college campus life and exposure during your time there. Networking is a very important part of the art world as well. I really forgot far away each city is in Texas, despite knowing how large it is. 6+ hour drive is like here in California going from LA to San Francisco! Are you going to have a car with you to get around?Β
Ohhhhhhh~ Ceramics sounds fun *0* I saw it offered in our art courses as well, but there was a additional $65 lab fee in addition to having to individually buy supplies so I couldn't go for it. "orz I think that was my main source of sadness with traditional medium art classes- they required us to pay lab fee in addition to purchasing the needed supplies ourselves which is rather pricey. ;u;Β
Oh! Hey, if you ever wanna move to California, we have a Disney Animations Studio here in Burbank and they offer quite a few internship opportunities in all different departments of animation. XD *winkwinknudgenudge*
I'm majoring in International Studies with a minor in Business Management. Though I'm still torn between an art career and a career in international affairs, I think I may have better qualifications for international affairs. I currently work at the World Affairs Council which a nonpartisan, nonprofit that does a lot of work with increasing global awareness. We have events every month where we fly in ambassadors, politicians, and speakers from different countries. It's mainly an event catered to the wealthy upper-class, but I guess it wouldn't do much in raising money if it were to be opened only for the general population (plus it includes fancy dinners at private venues so costs are unfortunately pretty high >u>;; ) Still, I like the company value and moral so I'm happy to be there. Might help me in future endeavors in world issues and politics. ^^

No problem at all! I totally understand~
Thank you! ;u; I had such a crisis with my style, but I'm so happy that I've developed an art style that I'm really proud of! Thank you so much~~
I hope so too! I'm so excited to meet all of the interesting people there. I will have a car for road trip purposes, but I'm really thinking of learning how to skateboard so I can get around the city (Roxas still influences me to this day XDD)
It is!! Our teacher is kinda meh...but my classmates are so nice and we get along great so it's actually a really fun class WHATTTT that is seriously BS. We just had to buy some trash bags and basic ceramics tools. We made clay in the class since our lab has a mixer, though our teacher rarely tells us how to do anything, so we all just work together to make a batch of clay for the whole class. I think it's absolutely terrible that they make you pay such an expensive lab fee. D: Is it like that with other lab classes like Chemistry or physics or something?
omg I'm so jealous of you Californians XD I really want to try doing a Disney summer internship, but considering how competitive it is, I want to build up my skill set more. XD But seriously I'd love to!! There's so many opportunities in California geeze. Hopefully one day I can land an internship somewhere there
GIRL THAT SOUNDS SO FANCY AND OFFICIAL. That sounds amazing!! And I'm so glad you're enjoying it. It must be so much fun getting exposure to all those different people! Hey maybe you could do both XD Imagine having a mini art show at one of those private venues and some wealthy upper class people happen to buy it ;D ;D ;D With every piece of art, there is someone bound to like it enough to buy it. If you could somehow combine your two passions, you'd be absolutely unstoppable. XD

Ohhhhhhhh I've always wanted to learn how to skateboard *0* That'd be so cool!! Gotta get yourself some skater-shorts too (or skater skirts to be super cute and badass all at once XD )
I'm mainly not surprised since tuition in California is super pricey, especially if it's a university and even moreso for private schools. I dunno, I assume they think since we can afford the cost of living in California that slapping on a couple extra hundreds more would be no problem for us or something. >__>Β
Haven't they heard of poor college students?! D:< *starts flipping tables* And yeah, it's like this for all classes.. I know some sciences require you to buy lab kits and those are in the hundreds. "OTL
THAT'D BE SO AWESOME IF YOU CAME HERE! <3 I know that the Disney Animations Studio here also offers apprenticeships, though they're usually considered a full-time position. When you graduate and are interested, you should totally get your butt over here! But first be the super awesome top-knotch artist in Texas first, and then come conquer Cali and have coffee with me. XD <3
and LOL! If I could mix art and politics (and not have to be satirical comic strips), that'd a dream come true! If that were the case, I'd be super willing to sell my soul and die early in bliss! XD Do you have any specific type of place you'd like to make concept art for in the future? Like, for movies or gaming? Or companies you're interested in working with in the future like Disney, Pixar, Dreamworks? Maybe freelance?
π: 0 β©: 1
sabishiidesu13 In reply to behindsmiles [2014-10-27 00:43:25 +0000 UTC]
Me toooo!! I seems like so much fun! Plus if things go wrong, I could hopefully just jump off unlike bikes or roller skates. XD I'M GOING TO BE THE KAWAII-EST AND SUGOI-EST SKATER EVER
Ahh that is the true true. California is so expensive ;o; It sucks that they slap on so many extra fees :< and I can't believe they do that to all students!! That just seems so unfair to me D:
Oooooh yeah!!! I will totally try my best to end up there somehow, even if it's just for an internship. I remember going to Disney World/Land (I DON'T REMEMBER; and there was this whole building dedicated to Disney concept art! It was so beautiful ;u; Yes yes I will definitely conquer Texas first mwahahahah XD And omg having a coffee date with you would be a dream come trueeee<3
Haha DO IT GIRL. I'm sure you'll find a way! ;D Hehe really I'd love to work anywhere that would take me XD But I've been researching the small production companies in Texas so I can give myself a good idea of where to start out.
I know I was mostly interested in video games, but gosh movie concept art is also awesome and I'd be so happy if I could get into either one~ I've been watching Legend of Korra, Steven Universe, and Gravity Falls lately, and the people who work on those shows make awesome concept art too! So I've started looking at tv show/web series production companies too. What I like about concept art is it's all development, so there's no strict rules for creating things and there are so many branches to concept art! Though I think I could do freelance, I think I'd rather be part of a big company so I can be around more people. Β

OH SHOOT! IF YOU'RE GONNA DO THAT, THEN YOU GOTTA LEARN TO TRICK ON A SKATEBOARD. THEN GET A PRO PHOTOGRAPHER AND GET A OVERLY BADASS AND KAWAII PIC OF YOU DOING A CUTE POSE WHILE LEVITATING OVER YOUR SKATEBOARD MID-GRIND OFF A HANDRAIL XDDDDDD
Ohhhh!! Yeah I remember the animation studios!!! ;U; There's also that section that has sessions every half an hour where they teach you how to draw a Disney character! (It's usually Mickey, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto since they're easier, but sometimes they'd teach like the newer characters like Olaf and such too. X3 ) My favorite part of Disney when I was little was definitely watching the sketch artists from the shop windows when they're like doing the sketch in blue colored pencil and then lining it with black. I remember always wanting to buy like all of them but I've never owned more than 2 bucks as a kid so I couldn't afford it. XDDD;
YEAH! There's been a lot of new cartoons starting up recently that cater more towards like a more mature-ish demographics so I think it's definitely a great time to give that a try. X3 I really want to work for Disney animations, but there's an increase in the usage of computerized modeling that requires knowledge of Maya and all those 3D design programs which I have not not been familiarized with to be confidently creating things. ;u; I think I'd prefer working on the 2D animation process more than the 3D ones. The 3D ones are more about programming which I suck. "OTLΒ
P.S. I hope you had a fun Halloween!!! Did you dress up this year?

Same as well! College and work are the death of any budding free time. XD
I was pretty saddened this past week when I realized how little my art improved compared to back in middle/high school when I drew several drawings a day. I've been fantasizing about making it a goal to draw everyday, but once I get home I'm so tired that any previous aspirations of drawings just poofs. "orz
Your art has progressed so much since I've last seen you! Your paintery style is so cool ;U; I don't think I've seen your digital art before since you mainly used traditional mediums back-in-theO-days

gaahhh my message got cut off D: This is what happens when I try to reply with my phone. "orz
Anyways, thank you! ; u ; I haven't had much time to doodle actually. The most is probably face or eye sketches while I'm attending classes, but I realized those slowly started to fade beginning my 2nd year of college. *sob* My goal starting this past month is at least drawing one thing everyday (but I started to slack a week or so in. XD )Β
If you have OpenCanvas 1.1, we should pchat sometime! Maybe regularly drawing with someone else will get us out of our static funk. TuT lol
D'awww I kinda miss it, I liked your traditional coloring too. >u< I haven't touched my colored pencils in a while either.. I think it was mainly because I liked how it looked in person, but when I scan it it doesn't look as good and made me a little sad. That, and also most commissions that I receive are for digital art anyways. XD Thinking about it, most of my drawings are actually just for commissions. I feel my creativity draining. "OTL

I think you've improved significantly since back in the day! I didn't realize it was you immediately, had to look back a bit XD but me too, feeling pretty static when compared with friends. do you still doodle often though?Β
haha thanks XD I just have no patience for lineart most of the time. yeah I got a nice tablet near the end of when I was active on theO, now I hardly ever draw traditionally except for sketching. took out my coloring tools maybe 1-2x a year orz looks like you're kind of the same? unless you just don't post the traditional pieces XD?

ACTUALLY, I have a surprise for you, However I can't "SHOW" you until I get a new scanner.
They are a great investment, and YES I AGREE XD;;; well...if you don't want to "waste them" You can buy PRISMA, so you can use COPIC less, until you get used to them and then use the copics when your ready. That's how I'm doing it. I brought this big set of Prisma Markers, and will eventually buy the copic sets.

College for me this year is icky; I'm suffering the consequences deciding on a double major too late. >U>;; orz
I don't remember if I ever asked, but what have you decided to major in?
π: 0 β©: 1
RileyKitty In reply to behindsmiles [2012-10-28 05:30:04 +0000 UTC]
Only about another month of them ahhh x__x
After some debating, I decided to stop fighting the desire to go into art. uwu I was considering bio or psych, but I sat down and asked myself what I'd want to do if I could do anything for a job, and they were all pretty much art related haha. *-* So I'm going for that risk because it's what I'd like to do more than anything else! More specifically the illustration/animation/concept areas yea...
What about you?? I dunno if I ever heard your major either. I was considering a double major as well, actually. ;u; It sounds like a lotta work! I'd really love to do a second major or minor in a science but I hate math classes so much...
π: 0 β©: 1
behindsmiles In reply to RileyKitty [2012-10-28 06:04:35 +0000 UTC]
YAAAAAAY I'm so proud of you!! ;U; I know it's a risk to take, but it's really great that you decided to pursue something you enjoy rather than just settle on something you don't. (I'm reminded of Fab's lectures on job selection. lol)
If you're ever down to go to some art venues around the area, let me know! I have a friend who decided to dedicate your time in her art and often goes to those events. It's a really great chance for networking in the art community. X3
I'm currently majoring in International Studies and Literary Journalism. I'm not sure what I plan to do with them yet... And with 20-24 units each quarter it's a bit to chew, but I enjoy the classes nonetheless. XD
Science and math are intertwined in more ways then I would like... it's only acceptable when it's merged into either Bill Nye of Mythbusters. >UO lol
What sciences did you consider on joining?

RileyKitty In reply to behindsmiles [2012-10-28 08:31:30 +0000 UTC]
Yea, art can be frustrating as hell, but I figure if there's anything I'd want to master, it would be that! uwu So it's worth the struggle! anD FFfff LOL yea i remember that now asdfgrtgf
oh? That sounds interesting. :0 I really don't know about anything like that hAHAHa... I'm so cut off from everything and everyone pfff ;;
gEEZZ that sounds like a lot of work, you're crazy! I think the most I'd take is 15 in a semester... @_@ Are you enjoying your major classes, at least??? I imagine they're a lot more fun than dumb general ed poo I'm doing right now haha...
Yea it's unfortunate... u-u Because I absolutely adore science, but hate how precise math is. Any tiny mistake and the whole thing messes up gUUHhhh...
And bio is where most of my interest lies! owo It's so fascinating! It's one subject I've never had any problems paying attention in at all because I just wanna know everything!! aahhh! But... calculus is a requirement for that major and that sounds like a massive pain... sIGHS
π: 0 β©: 1
behindsmiles In reply to RileyKitty [2012-10-30 05:37:37 +0000 UTC]
GE's are annoying... I thought we were done with math, science and english when we got outta high school!! @A@;; It's even worse when everyone needs them too and the class fills up. ;__;
Ohh!! That reminds me of that bio related anime my friends keeps trying to get me to watch. XD It's called Moyashimon. Maybe hidden somewhere in there will help you overcome the calculus difficulties of bio!!! 8D //shot
Most of my friends are in either the chem or bio major too and they say that it's mainly basic calculus that you need to learn; hopefully it won't be too much trouble! Like. For my IS major, I need to take statistics but it's mainly applied statistics so it's nothing too hard to comprehend. Then again calc is probably harder than stats...I'm rambling now. "orz
ANYWAYS!! Are you up to anything for Halloween? *U*

RileyKitty In reply to behindsmiles [2012-10-30 05:45:53 +0000 UTC]
I honestly don't see the benefit of the GE system they have set up. D: I have to take a poli sci class, and it's an absolute joke because I learned everything as far back as friggin middle school... The midterm asked me to write about The Great Compromise and Federalists/Antis and I wasn't sure if I wanted to laugh or cry over how easy and pointless the class was...
I really wish you could just focus in on your major, that's what college should be about. u-u
hahahaha it seems interesting! :0 I'll look into it hehe... Recently I've been trying to watch some animes since I've only seen a handful of them...
I'm pretty sure calc is as far as I'd have to go... but ugh, huge pain. I'm doing alright in precalc right now, but I hate it a lot and I'm not used to actually /studying/ for my classes. xD;;
For Halloween I'm gonna stay home and hand out candy. uwu I really love it for the excuse to dress up, because I'll get to use my Pokemon cosplay for the first time since AX. 8D What about you?? I'm not even sure how Halloween would go down on a college campus since I'm living at home...

behindsmiles In reply to RileyKitty [2012-10-30 06:33:54 +0000 UTC]
You know why they include those crappy GE's? For our moneeehhhhhh >U>;;; Did you know that it's becoming more and more difficult for students to graduate within 4 years now cuz classes fill up and they can't enroll in the classes required for graduating?? It's just ridiculous. x_x We need more specialization schools that focus specifically towards our field!
Sounds like no bueno. lol but who knows; maybe forcing you to so rigorously study it will engrave those nasty formulas into your brain forever! There might even be those annoyingly catchy calc songs that help you memorize school stuff, like that pop-goes-the weasel tune for the quadratic formula and the Animaniacs song for listing the presidents in order. XDD
Oh yeah!!! I remember you working hard on that costume! Especially how intricate you made the shoes! *A*
Apparently it's okay to go trick-or-treating at a college-centered city? lol It's odd but a load of college students apparently still do. I remember back home we'd get comments by neighbors hinting that we're too old. @u@

You're right... x__x urrgghh it's so dumb though. I'm not even sure if I'll be able to do it in four years, myself, honestly. u-u I'm actually considering transferring to an art school the year after next perhaps, but they're so expensive so...uh... bleh.
Well I guess it's forcing me to learn how to study, if anything. *-* Because I almost never studied for anything in the past and got by, and that doesn't always work as well in college classes I'll bet. u~u
hehe, i'd totally go trick or treating if i had someone to go with! I probably look like im 15 or 16 anyways so i could get away with it a few more years... :'D
