It doesn't matter at all, rats can and will eat anything, and switching doesn't matter any either, rats like a variety of food. We don't even buy the same kind of cat food usually, my mom just buys whats on sale. Just make sure she gets plenty of table scraps.

My mom says she bought her at the store by target( Idk, She bought starscream on a whim.) but it really doesn't matter if your buying from just a pet store, I don't think any are better than the others around here. Rats in pet stores are bred for reptile food. *sobs*
If you want the freindleist, healthiest, most disease resistent animal, you probably want to buy from a rat breeder commited to the animals, (I don't know if there's anyone like that around here though) but I recommend buying from a pet store, to save the poor things from a horrible fate.

I saw this thing and it said if you're buying from a pet store look for: lethargy, runny poop, discharge, dull eyes, obesity, and scabs or wounds.
I think those would be the ones I'd want to save. ;__;

BUT, you don't want your rats dying on you a week after you get them, that would just be more horrible.
I'd say if you see lots of that stuff, then go to another pet store, and always get the most active, shiny-coated, Filled out looking ones, and try to get babies, always try to get babies.
