Alacia sent me, well...asked me to give you pointers on watercolor.
I know, I'm a stranger telling you things 
ALRIGHT!
So, basically I'll give you some links to good watercolor tutorials and write my own diddle of a small explanation at the end.
When I decided I wanted to start watercolor painting all I did was read about a trillion tutorials for it

This tutorial is really awesome because it shows how to make different textures and whatnot. If you get great watercolors (unlike me) then these should work(they didn't work with mine. I'm cheap.)
Okay, finding a good easy tutorial was lame.
Basically sketch, trace onto watercolor paper(can use window or screen as light table if you don't have one 
You'll probably need all shapes of brushes but big, medium and very tiny work well.
When your working on other parts you should probably act quick so that it doesn't dry and leave a harsh edge (blend the edges so you don't end up with a harsh edge of paint.)
After background, I usually do skin, hair, accessories and outline all with pen at the end.
cheap ball point pens work well if you want to outline and then paint, they don't smudge.
If you want to do white highlights you should probably use other paint because white watercolor is watercolor and very translucent.

Just to help you regain life after listening to me blabber on about things for so long.
I highly suggest looking at all watercolor tutorials on dA, A lot of people do it different ways and have their own special secrets for getting their paint to do what they like.
