Hey Cambium, I hope you don't mind me submitting most of your botanical illustrations to the group I just created: BioIllustration. I would also be delighted if you would consider joining the group - you seem to have an interest in scientific illustration, so it should be right up your alley!
Cheers!

I'd love to know where you got your inspiration for your scientific drawings from. I was heavily inspired by them, & wanted to do some research on these kinds of illustrations. The closest thing I could find was Leonardo's anatomic drawings.

Botanical Illustration for the purposes of taxonomic identification has been around since the Herbals of Ancient Rome. These volumes were produced for medical purposes, to show which plants had (reportedly) healing properties. The known progenitor of all of these was Discorides' Materia Medica. These early works were then copied (often with increasingly stylized illustrations) through time.
The Age of Exploration also produced botanical illustrations to record the plants newly encountered by Europeans throughout the world. Often local artists would be commissioned to produce these illustrations. When the plants were brought back to Europe, it became fashionable among the upper classes to grow these specimens and commission their illustration. This led to the development of entire schools of botanical illustration in continental Europe around the 18th to 19th centuries.
Botanical illustration has continued to be important to taxonomic holdings of plants, such as in botanical gardens and herbaria. An illustration can depict the entire life cycle of a plant in one image, as well as showing internal structure and changes in scale, whereas a photograph cannot. New artists continue to bring innovation and new ways of seeing to an ancient art form.

Hello Cambium,
I absolutly adore your drawings, especially the botanical ones. The irises you drew instantly bought me, aswell as the plants native to your area.
Nice job on illustrating the Harry Potter scenes, too.
I look forward to seeing more submissions of yours.
