we used to have a trombone last year, but she didn't come back this year. It was pretty funny watching the brass and saxes go red in the face trying to blow their instruments the first time, though. Our music program's relatively new and still developing, so most of the players are, too.Β
Except the rock band. We're experienced as fuck. Like seriously, most of us have been playing for years, even though the band only just started this year.
Killer guitarist, a grade 5 (?) pianist, Β the bassist (mr music himself,) the best drummer of an instructer, two drummers- and most of us can play more than one instrument, so we help each other out. After the first performance- in which we spent like a minute tuning a guitar that was supposed to tune itself but never worked- we name our selves "Out of Chune"Β
cause british people say chune... and some of us are british (English? idgaf) anyways.

guitar for about 4 years flute for 1 1/2, piano for 2, and violin for like a half (honestly, I haven't been playing much lately.)Β

All you need is some software to record and edit on, a decent mic and/ or headphones. (and a quiet place to record)
I don't have headphones right now, or a place to record, so I can't really make anything good now...

heh, my school issues macbook pros to the high and middle school (for $40 a month, of course.)
After three years of administrator passwords, frustration and no downloads, it's yours! (if you can put up with that...)
The only good thing, really is that it comes with a shit ton of stuff on it- photoshop, adobe stuff, word etc.
I live literally right next to a road (seriously, my window is like 7 feet from the road) so there's not much quiet either :C
I was trying to record a couple days ago, and I was halfway through when somebody coming round the corner honked their horn right out side the window e_e. I still haven't finished that song...

Welll...
It's kinda hard to explain how to write songs 'cause everybody does it differently and for different reasons.
I write music that focuses on the lyrics more than anything, but that's mostly because I write the lyrics first and then add a melody.Β
All I can say is write the lyrics with real emotion- put your heart into it. Then, depending on the type of lyrics, use a specific type of chords- major minor, flat- whatever,
Just... do what feels right, y'know?

Be careful though- inspiration has a habit of whaking people upside the head. For me, it kinda just hide's behind a corner, peaks out, sneaks up and yells boo!
If I look at it, it starts evapourating and I have to catch it all on paper before it floats away.
It's not easy, but it leaves you feeling very accomplished.

you need to try and get in touch with your emotions and the emotions of those around you. Music isΒ emotion. Channel it and write it down, if that makes any sense. For every two bad songs you make, you get one good one and you usually get another good one out of the two bad ones 'cause you were just bein too hard on yourself the first time round.

Heh, having my way with words is pretty helpful when I'm songwriting for sure.
When rhyming words, you gotta be careful not to just write words that rhyme- they have to make sense in the context and also FLOW.

I just realized. There's a guy in my class who's A LOT like dave.
Like literally, he's there. He's even a rapper (and a pretty good one, two)
We were rivals, once upon a time- there was a territory wide testing and he was at the top of his class but then I skipped a grade and stole his thunder- when the results came back, I was first in the territory and he was second
We're cool now, though.Β

GUESS WHAT.
Okay so there was a talent show on friday (yesterday) and I had to perform three separate times- once by myself, once with two friends and once with the rock band.
So for my solo, I was singing and playing the piano and the song was 'Oh No' by Marina and The Diamonds. (if you don't know it, give it a listen, it's nice ;D)
So, I've got the mic, and halfway through it start's falling down, so I reach up and try to adjust it quickly, but ten seconds later it falls right on top of me! I had to stop the song, but I made a funny face when it fell and once it was fixed, I resumed the song
It went like this:
'I'm now becoming my own self-fulfilled prophecy-"
*mic falls*
*sings all wide eyed like 'holy crap, it just fell'*'Oh, Oh no, Oh no, oh no-oo!'
The timing was IMPECCABLE. When I got off stage, the host said he knew I could sing but he didn't know I was a stand up comedian.
I'm actually glad the mic fell. I probably would've collapsed without some comedic relief, I was so nervous >.<
I felt it'd only be fit to tell you aboat it- performances are... interesting experiences for musicians

I think I was more mortified before it happened than I was after- I was literally shaking- so much that my fingers slipped once on the keys!
When it fell, I just laughed and relaxed- especially since the timing was so convenient
