You are welcome!! I'm well and you??
I finished my lessons T__T Β Β Β I got 14 out of 20 in my piano exam (I'm so happy! The best grade in my school was 15!)
And what about you?

Else22 In reply to catieminou [2013-09-13 11:26:47 +0000 UTC]
Congratulations!! But that doesn't mean you're not going to play the piano in the future, right?
School starts on Monday and this will be my last high-school year. I have to concentrate on my baccalaureate and my German language certificate, because I'm looking forward to studying in Vienna next year <3

Thank youuuuu! Of course! I can't stop practicing, or I would go backwards.
Woow, awesome! I wish you the best of luck! What you will study in Vienna?

I know how it's like, I haven't practiced for a while and I feel like I've forgotten everything
Mathematics or Technical Mathematics, and after 3-4 years I want to specialize myself in Bio-mathematics What about you? Will you continue your career as a pianist or do something else?
π: 0 β©: 1
catieminou In reply to Else22 [2013-09-14 17:24:11 +0000 UTC]
But if you try a piece that you used to play, it wouldn't be like if it was your first time learning it!
Gosh, that isn't easy at all... But bio-mathematics sounds pretty cool! I hope you do great
I'm in environmental engineering, so I know that math in college is hell xD
Honestly, I wouldn't like to make the piano my living. I rather play when I feel it.
By the way, I'm thinking to learn the contrabass or the cello. *___*

Oh, good luck with that! You bust be a very good time organizer, if you manage to do them all
Engineering would've been my second option too, but I didn't know what specialization. How "heel" is math in college? In high-school we do pretty advanced math, including derivatives, integrals, matrices and polynomials and I saw that my first courses are practically stuff I've already done in high-school. :-s

catieminou In reply to Else22 [2013-09-18 21:53:24 +0000 UTC]
Thank you! I guess that I am, or I would had a heart attack due to stress, ahahah
Engineering has always math, no matter what specialization, but some are more difficult then others. The hardest math is the electrotechnology, aerospace, nanotechnology and physics. Informatics is the "easier", but it is compensated with programming, that involves math logic. This is just my opinion!
Then you are well prepared for college! In high-school I have never learned a single thing about integrals and matrices. In college I learn a bunch of theorems and rules about integrals and limits, including the study of the shapes of equations.
In Portugal, the classes are over crowded, some teachers are rude and don't give any effort in teaching, the books are too expensive and the fees should be a lot cheaper. So, their is other factors that difficult a student life.Β I don't know how it is in other countries (I hope I didn't give you a bad image of Portugal!)
Anyways, everyone has to work a lot in college. Not even an genius can pass a single discipline without studying.Β

Of course, I've personally never heard someone say "Oh, college is sooo easy" Regarding the educational system, the Romanian one is not that good either, sadly. But we usually make copies of textbooks or buy them from other older students. Education is free and compulsory till year 10 in highschool, and till year 12 we have to buy our own textbooks. If you go to a state college and are among the first ones you don't pay any taxes (there are hundreds of places for each faculty financially supported by the state), but if you don't, taxes are around 1000 euros/ 3000 lei each year. I don't want to talk about the teachers, because I don't want to generalize, but they aren't always the best pedagogs, even if they are well-prepared for their job But yeah, we do matrices, derivatives, integrals and polynomials in the last 2 years of high-school, if we attend a Maths-Computer Science section or a Natural Sciences section.
But I guess you have good job opportunities if you are an engineering graduate, right? My parents are both engineers and they say that this specialization is not really for a woman, because they are still discriminated and considered less prepared than men I don't know the situation in other countries, but I know some cases here. I guess I'll choose Maths and just Maths, because I'm not really passionate about physics and I'm rubbish at programming
Good luck with your college work!

catieminou In reply to Else22 [2013-09-19 19:57:45 +0000 UTC]
In France people only start to pay the books in college and in Portugal you always pay then, no matter what grade. Yeah, copying text books is illegal, but everyone does it! xD
About the taxes, it's exactly the same where! The students used to have specials discounts in the public transportation, but now it is cut off. I pay over 100β¬ per moth, with the train and subway to get to college. It wouldn't be cheaper if I lived closer to the school.
Yes, engineering is one of the courses that gives the best jobs opportunities. It is a shame, but it is true. Some countries are worse then others. But the reality is changing. Their are much more female students in science colleges for instance. Still, I think that discrimination is a minority. I don't mean any disrespect to your parents, but I hope they don't influence you. What course that you will pick is a choice that only you can make.
Oh, I forgot to tell you about an other difficulty in a student college concentration! Parties, of course. Ahahah. They aren't good for the health, the sleeping hours and people tend to skip classes. Because some people have a sudden "liberty" when get to college, or they get bad influences. So they easily go to alcohol, drugs and meaningless sex.
In Portugal, the majority is very faithful to the praxe. If you want, you can read this site to understand it better:Β en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Praxe
Praxe is optional. I was praxed, because some bits were fun and I made friends. But I don't praxe other people. I don't like to scream or humiliate other persons and the academic outfit is expensive. And I think all the thigh rules are lame.
Their is praxe in other countries isn't it?

Else22 In reply to catieminou [2013-09-22 11:56:38 +0000 UTC]
That's a lot, over here is not that expensive But depends on the salaries, as well. Because everyone is shocked when a Romanian tells a foreigner how much he earns - that's why we don't want the Euro currency, because the prices will grow and the salaries will remain the same.
Nope, my parents support me no matter what - even too much I may say, because lately they don't even want to share their opinion about my future faculty, because they think this will influence me I know women now tend to choose science colleges as well - and men go to Humanities faculties But I guess that if you're really good in a subject you can find a job approximately related to it...
Parties in colleges? You mean, you haven't heard of parties in high-school? I don't usually go to them, except for the 18th birthday parties of my closest friends, because they are... you said it. I don't mind if people around me get drunk if they don't harm me. I can have fun without getting drunk and it's healthier!
I personally haven't heard of this kind of rites in Romania - perhaps they exist in other countries. Of course there are student organisations with traditions, but they don't appear in this form
