Yes, I do actually. Want to know why?
Because offering cheap artwork at $1 is offending her own work, if she offers it free. Shes doing a favor to everyone, but its a gift. Not the actual value of the art, I also told her to make her work more expensive if she plans on selling it.

cheese12 In reply to Self-Epidemic [2012-05-21 17:02:25 +0000 UTC]
"the actual value of the art"
The actual value of something is supply and demand. Period. She is the supply side, which is represented by how much she is willing to sell her services for. The demand side is the consumer, and how much someone is willing to pay for it. If she can charge more and get it, more power to her (or anyone else). But if she charges more and no one buys it...it isn't worth that.
Now of course she should factor in other things she can do with her time to come up with whatever price she chooses to decide upon, but that has no bearing on the demand side of the equation because the consumer will also consider whatever they can also spend their money on (be it art or other entertainment).
Now I look at your art, and I must say that you are in fact a better artist. In fact, the first thing I think when I see your art, is that it probably costs more money they I would like to pay for it. I think before the thread deletion, it was something like 30 pounds..which is what? $40?
For myself, other then rare circumstances, I would probably just by another video game then. Even though it is better art, it isn't worth more to me because of the substitution effect.
Now, depending on how much one needs money, and what other options they have, you might not want to be so quick about lecturing other people on that. Especially if you aren't considering paying for this yourself (That means the art isn't worth that to you).
Now, you may not have noticed, but the world economy is in very poor shape, and I don;t see it getting better anytime soon. In fact, I think a lot of people are going to have to work for a lot less then they think they are worth. My own job seems to be relatively stable at the moment (knock on wood) but 3 years from now, with both the Euro and the dollar looking weak....who knows what I may have to do and how much I will make then?

What the fuck is with that attitude? I never asked your opinion on wherever my art was worth its value to you. Also, who gives a fuck about the economy. The economy is bad for artists because people belittle artists and pay them incredibly poorly.

"What the fuck is with that attitude?"
I was trying to explain the value of art. Supply & Demand. It has 2 sides. Raising prices doesn't increase its value unless it sells.
"Also, who gives a fuck about the economy."
Again, see demand. A bad economy will likely have a huge impact on what someone will pay. The market side of the equation.
"The economy is bad for artists because people belittle artists and pay them incredibly poorly."
That is probably because a large number of artist aren't doing work someone wants to buy. Raising prices will not help that.
"I never asked your opinion on wherever my art was worth its value to you."
You talked about the actual value of art. I was attempting to illustrate it takes 2 people to determine its value, a buyer and a seller. Neither one by itself determines the value.

I'm sorry to hear about your commission theft. People like that make me angry. I took maybe a week to do 3 drawings, because of a con I went to. >( I felt really bad.
