I read your The New World post. Very informing. Don't mistaken me. I like the media's John Smith as in Disney's John Smith and Colin Farrell as John Smith <3 for entertainment purposes. I get the facts, and...I'm a history buff. I like to no more and more about Jamestown, John Smith, Pocahontas, the Powhatan, etc. You sound sophisticated (at least more than I ).

oh no worries I know, just teasin'. ^ ^ I just personally love and prefer Rolfe, but I don't mind Smith, especially the historical and cartoon version. (not a big Farell fan) Oh awesome, so am I. Go history buffs! I know right?! I spent a whole day just researching Jamestown and reading the documents written by Smith and Rolfe themselves. So fascinating! aww gee thanx

I'm really looking forward to learning more about Jamestown in social studies class...but I think some stuff will be review and that will show as I nod my head and answer to the open questions my teacher will ask in class. I wanna know MORE. I like period films...set in any time, really I was born in the wrong century

lordofthepirates In reply to chericherry [2011-09-29 02:06:05 +0000 UTC]

omgsh I couldn't agree with u more on both points. We're coming up to the Elizabethan/ Stuart era in class and I know I will be sharing my thoughts and facts about the settlement of Jamestown. Hope our teacher won't get too annoyed. Oh everyday and night I'm in my own little world of a different era. Wouldn't it be wonderful to live back then when there were horse drawn carriages and the girls always wore elegant dresses? 99% of my favorite movies are period films. I redid my room 2 summers ago in a Regency/Victorian theme. Right now I'm really into the late 1800's. I was definitely born in the wrong century!

Besides the rights of a woman, life would so grand in a different era. Have you seen Pride & Prejudice? I quite like the 2005 version. The dresses <3 YES. Life was elegant. Seen Atonement? Even the Early 1900's...UGH <3 Even the war. But I guess...I'm looking at the grand mansions and balls...It depends on what caste you're talking about. If your mother and father are servants, than that's practically what you're gonna be.

lordofthepirates In reply to chericherry [2011-09-30 23:23:28 +0000 UTC]

are you kidding? p&p (2005 version) is one of my all time favorite movies! i made a music video. here's the link [link]
anyways, that is like what I'm thinking since everyone even the gentleman were so proper and mannered and life was just so different with different standards and they prized the arts and etiquette so much more. Why can't buildings be made the way baroque or victorian architecture was back then? I actually haven't seen atonement but i want to! Keira is actually my favorite actress oh yes the mansions and balls. sometimes I'm in the mood for the lower or middle class lifestyle like "The Village" or "Little Women" (1994). Other times I'm in the mood for "Marie Antoinette" or "Gone With the Wind" or "Titanic" -more elaborate
.

YES See Atonement. Oh I love architectures like that...just cold stone pillars, columns...PHEW I was scared you didn't like the 2005 one. Something about leaving out stuff that fans of the other version don't like...Keira's probably my favorite but for sure one of my top favorites. It's incredible how we both like the same things I actually have Little Women waiting on my bookshelf. Did I ask about Jane Eyre? I'm reading that and the 2011 one not that bad. Yes there's bouncing back and forth between the years, probably a little confusing for people that are not familiar with the book. Have you seen Becoming Jane? Anne Hathaway plays Jane Austen and we see Austen's relationship between Lefroy in her younger years before she was famous for her books.

Ok I most certainly will! Oh yes you don't have ta worry about me liking the 2005 version! It's da best hands down!! I know! I'm so happy you know what I'm talking about and relate so much! ^_^ Oh it's so funny you mention Jane Eyre 'cause it's one of my top 3 favorite books! I read it the first time this summer and I couldn't put the book down. Oh I actually did love the movie a lot though they did leave a lot of stuff out and Mia could've been more emotional but overall they did pretty good for a two hour movie. I actually drew a pic of her I put on DA. I LOVE the soundtrack and location where they filmed ^ ^ Oh yes I have seen "Becoming Jane"! Not in a while, but I do remember I liked it most considerably! James MacAvoy is fantastic. Another good Austen movie is "Sense and Sensilbility" with Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet. Oh and you must have seen the timeless classic "Gone With the Wind" right? If not, you MUST

chericherry In reply to lordofthepirates [2011-10-02 18:58:41 +0000 UTC]

I MUST I MUST I MUST. I haven't got my hands on that movie, though I'm interested in watching it. I asked about some background facts from my mom, I'll try to see it soon. It IS a world famous classic. I like James McAvoy...He gets really good characters to play. I am a go for for soundtracks. Practically all 400+ songs on my iPod are soundtracks. Dario Marianelli wrote the scores for Jane Eyre, as well as Atonement and Pride & Prejudice.

lordofthepirates In reply to chericherry [2011-10-02 20:05:01 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes! You'd love it. Oh I know! Like 75% of the songs on my iPhone are from soundtracks! I'm obsessed! When I hear a soundtrack I like, I immediately buy it and try to learn it on the piano. Yes! Dario Marianelli's one of my favorites, along with John Williams, Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard, James Horner, Thomas Newman and many many others! Have you heard James Newton Howard's "The Village" score? It's just beautiful and the violin is to die for. I love the violin for "Jane Eyre" and "Master and Commander" too. Period movies have the best soundtracks. I'm really into "The New World" one right now. I think it's Horner's best so far. During Christmas I always love listening to Newman's "Little Women" ST. So beautiful and emotional! Now my favorite ST of all is "Empire of the Sun" by John Williams, (as well as my absolute favorite movie of all time! I truly am obsessed with it. Have you seen it? Not a lot of people have, it's so sad

chericherry In reply to lordofthepirates [2011-10-02 22:14:32 +0000 UTC]

I've been obsessed with The New World since I discovered it. I REALLY wished that all of the pieces James Horner wrote for The New World were on the CD. I do like Mozart's Piano Concerto #23 Adagio that continuously plays along the movie in interactions between Smith and Pocahontas. You must be a Balehead, are you not? I've took your word and used what you said about Rolfe as I watched The New World last night (I watch the film whenever I can). Though I already thought in the beginning, Rolfe was a kind man, I just...realized it more(?).

Yes, we share probably an unpopular opinion. The New World is James Horner at his best. Beating Titanic and Avatar D Though those two are great soundtracks as well.
I absolutely love Hans Zimmer's "Time" in Inception. No, I haven't watched the movie. And then the other score writers you've mentioned I haven't heard of. Unfortunately, no, I haven't seen it, I've noticed you do a lot of art on that movie.

lordofthepirates In reply to chericherry [2011-10-03 02:24:11 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes, I wish so too. Ya I thought Mozart was a good choice and I especially like Wagner's Vorspiel at the very end.

OK, ya caught me! Big surprise from seeing the dozens of drawings I've done of him! ...my heart belongs to Christian Bale But I actually haven't joined the official DA "group". I mean, I know it seems like an obvious thing for me to do, but I don't like to be labeled, 'cause then I get lost in the sea of other "Baleheads" and people think I'm like everyone else in the group. My love extends beyond the boundaries of "fanclub" ^ ^ But who knows, I may in the future. I just like to feel separate from the usual stuff and autonomous I guess, but anywho, (that was a weird sentence), Oh I'm so glad you saw Rolfe in a new light like that! Yes, he absolutely is! Rolfe is such a good man, I love him so much ^ ^

Ya most people probably wouldn't agree that "The New World' is his best (probably because most have never seen it) though "Titanic" and "Braveheart" are my other two favorites of Horner's.
Oh ya "Time" is a really good one. The drone sound is cool. Have you heard Zimmer's and James Newton Howard's Batman Begins ST? (another top favorite Christian Bale movie) It sorta has that mood to it but even better!(in my opinion) Oh you should definitely check out those composers I mentioned. They are masters! If you like "Jane Eyre", you'd like "The Village" probably. What other composers do like? Oh Alan Menken!! I bet you like him! I love so many of his scores for Disney.

Oh "Empire of the Sun" to me, is the movie to see before you die. I can't express how much I love it. Not just 'cause Christian is in it, but it has such a deep meaning and is completely different from any other WWII movie out there. Ah yes, I am doing an "Empire of the Sun" series. I plan on drawing every scene of the movie ^ ^

chericherry In reply to lordofthepirates [2011-10-03 08:12:24 +0000 UTC]

Yep, Alan Menken is a music god. To many Disney fans, his pieces are perfection. I like the Pocahontas soundtrack, no surprise XD My favorite score by Menken would probably be "Farewell".

I haven't seen many Christian Bale movies. In fact, I've only seen him in The New World and in Pocahontas where he is the voice actor of Thomas. Yep, this I am lacking. I really need to find time to watch films, but school's all in my face, I can't even ignore one bit.

Rolfe is a good man. He let her go see Smith knowing that she won't be satisfied until she did. I just don't like Rolfe in the Disney sequel, that's where it began. But that was a little thing; an ignorant thing. Nevermind it now.

I'm scrolling through my songs list and....the of the composers are four that we've already mentioned; James Horner, Hans Zimmer, Dario Marianelli, Alan Menken. I MUST EXPLORE!

Ooo Braveheart, I've heard of that. Another movie I haven't seen. Starring Mel Gibson, huh? A lot of people once they discover that he was the voice actor for John Smith they said "my childhood is ruined." I don't think that, I think he did a wonderful job giving the voice of John Smith. Quite frankly, I'm ignorant of his reputation, that's probably the case.

I was falling for Colin Farrell so far after I first watched The New World. I watched Alexander, Ondine, In Bruges starring him as well as The Way Back and Horrible Bosses. Ondine....I didn't understand it, didn't really like it. Alexander was good I guess, I like Greek history. Still, The New World is still his best.

lordofthepirates In reply to chericherry [2011-10-04 01:01:44 +0000 UTC]

Yes, he absolutely is. "Newsies" just might be my favorite score of his. It's one of my top favorite movies as well (with Christian Bale!) funny how that happens It's a period musical set in 1899 in New York about the newsies strike against Pulitzer and Hearst. I'm so obsessed with it right now.

Isn't it amazing how Christian Bale is in two movies about Pocahontas? One he's the voice, the other he's actually in it. That would've been funny if he was the voice of John Rolfe Ya he really showed in "The New World" that he truly loved her and didn't want her to be unhappy. One of my favorite lines of hers is "You are the man I thought you were, and more."

I know what you mean about school being in your face. It's ridiculous the amount of work we have this year. Barely enough time for drawing/piano/reading/painting/watching movies and all my other favorite things to do but I do enjoy some of our classes like European History and Literature and Language. I'm much more of a language and humanities person than math and science. I do like anatomy though and since I'll need it for my art career.

Haha I thought so! For someone to have that many scores, those composers MUST be in there. Which soundtracks? Ya it doesn't matter to me at all that Mel Gibson is the voice of John Smith or Braveheart or in another favourite movie, Signs. I just see him as a great actor in a great movies and don't associate that at all with all the other hoity-toity going on in the media.

Colin Farrel. I don't have much to say about him except I know him from "The New World" and that's about it! He did do pretty good as Smith. Oh I've never seen Alexander. I should watch it! I love Gladiator and Troy so maybe I'll like it. Notice how our messages are getting longer! Teehee! That's what happens when I get exited about what I'm writing ^ ^

Sorry I couldnt answer you the whole week! D: School...(I actually did answer this during the week, but maybe it didn't get sent. Weird...)

I watched "The Duchess" for the first time yesterday! Keira Knightley, excellent as always. The movie portrayed how things aren't fair for women, and how she overcomes that. I got my very own copy of The New World: Extended Cut! YAAAAAAAY! This isn't very expanded, mom was talking about the future and transferring schools for next year, and......-sigh- she's building stress on me as if I don't already have.

My birthday's coming up and I don't know what I want. A whole pile of dvds ? Laptop? Tablet? etc etc Something Disney? Ideas?

Oh no worries at all! Me too. I had a boatload of work to do for school.

I've been wanting to see "The Duchess" very badly. I've been able to catch a little on tv but I want to see the whole thing. I'll ask my dad to put it on our Netflix queue

Oh YAY!!! I can still remember how uncontrollably joyful and giddy I was when I first bought my copy of "The New World". It was two Summers ago actually at Barnes & Noble (I could live there), and I snuck over to the DVD section so I could rummage through all the DVDs looking for "The New World" and any other CB movie I could find They were all on sale too! That was one of the best days ever. ^ ^

How wonderful!! Tell me when your birthday is or hide these messages or something so I can tell you happy birthday that day! If it was me, I'd ask for all the soundtracks and DVDs I've been wanting, or if you don't have a Mac laptop yet, I advise you get one immediately, or ask to go on a little trip somewhere! I spent my birthday one time at Disneyland and we stayed at the hotel there, and another time at a cozy English bed & breakfast

I got a pair of Minnetonka moccasins, but I'm probably getting something else as well. Something Disney. Yep, its being postponed. I suppose that's okay with me. I don't necessarily WANT anything.

No doubt about that Ooh I'd love a pair of moccasins to feel like Pocahontas Well if it's Disney, it's probably fantastic! I actually just came back from Disneyland tonight believe it or not! Halloweentime is my favorite over there with all the decorations and what not, so my parents treated me to it. My absolute favorite land is New Orleans I was so sad "Pirates of the Caribbean" was closed down though, my favorite ride! It was great other than that The majority was dressed up too! If I had known, I would've worn my 18th century dress or newsie outfit.

She offered by the 1996 version and the BBC mini-series version, but I've seen the BBC one so I took the other.
"A Dangerous Method"! I can't watch it with my own free will, its rated R...
There's "Anna Karenina" coming in 2012...Keira Knightley, of course...Joe Wright as director...score writer is Dario Marianelli...Matthew Macfayden's in it as well!!

Hi!!! No I apologize for taking so long to reply. That's hilarious you and your teacher were geeking out about Pride and Prejudice! How was the 1996 version? I never saw it. Oh and I saw the trailer for "Anna Karenina"! Wow you can't go wrong with those people! It's Pride and Prejudice all over again haha. A movie I've been in love with is "Becoming Jane" about Jane Austen. I'm not usually a fan of Anne Hathaway but I love her in it as Jane. And I can't get over James MacAvoy who's is in it as well (love him!! <3) He's perfect as the love interest ^_^
Yesterday, I saw "Titanic" in theatres with my bf and it was AMAZING. I cried for the last 20 minutes of it haha. I always do. I love that movie so much <3 Gorgeous costumes in it too.

Ooo I apologize for answering this so late.
I insisted upon watching "Titanic" w/ my friend. I've seen it before, but big screen...
I've seen "Becoming Jane". I've held the biography that it was based on as well. The movie isn't very real when it comes to JA and Lefroy. I'm a janeite, crazy for those Jane Austen novels.
THE FIRST TIME I FIGURED OUT THAT MATTHEW MACFADYEN WAS IN IT
OHHHMMYGOOODD
I have a bit more of watching to do with Pride and Prejudice (1995). It's very in tact with the book.
You look so beautiful, by the way, in "1780a French gown with peplum"!
I love costumes from period dramas. I would love to be in one, even with the corset experience XD
Every time I look at your deviantART I secretly pray for more "The New World" drawings

Oh I want to read Jane's biography so bad. Just too many books to read! Well now that it's summer I'll have more time Whoo! Go Janeites! And yes, the 1995 P&P is very close to the book. Aww and thank you for the compliment ^_^ Haha yes the corset. I finally bought one at a Civil War reenactment last year and I can't imagine pulling it as tight as women used to do in the 18th and 19th centuries. Oh same here. Period costumes are the best! I've drawn a watercolor sketch of an 1890s bustle dress from "The Prestige" and I can't get past how gorgeous the dresses were back then. And have no fear! A new "New World" drawing shall appear shortly Speaking of which I just came back from Washington DC where I actually saw the original painting of Pocahontas I've seen so many times in books and online. I almost cried when I saw it haha. It's the one of her in the Elizabethan court style hat and robe, holding a feather.

I think they have Smith's (from 'The New World') outfit at a museum.
Oh, yes, I'd tell myself that--Summer, time for books (and the movies)! But who knows...might be waking up late but I really DO want to read lots.
That's awesome that you got to see her portrait!

I'm such a night owl I could stay up reading or watching movies till my eyes bleed. Oh I can't wait till Brave! Love the whole Scottish Celtic setting and of course cuz its Disney! And yes! The Avengers was fantastic! My favorite is Captain America. He's sorta the underdog but I think he's awesome and sweet. And yes I've seen all the Marvel movies except for Thor ironically. I know, I promise I'll see it soon enough! I really loved Snow White and the Huntsman. That's the only thing I've seen with him in it (besides Avengers of course)

Oh, I saw Snow White and the Huntsman on the 21st! I went mainly for Chris Hemsworth (Thor) xD My obsession with Thor... I've been reading the Fellowship of the Ring. My teacher is a major fan; I told him I would read the trilogy over the summer. I should say my former teacher, for the school year has ended...I miss him. Frankly, I miss the routine of school.
So yes, I thought I'd read the trilogy. I did started Fellowship months ago, only 100 pages into the book itself. I guess I'm ~150 pages in (excluding the prologue, etc).
I'll be taking an Acrylics Class tomorrow! With very little experience. I guess instead of just admiring others, I'd give it a try. How's your summer been?

Oh the Fellowship of the Ring? Well I hope you enjoy it! The LOTR trilogy has been a huge part of my life for so long. Have you seen the movies by Peter Jackson? I've been waiting for the Hobbit to come out since I was in 6th grade and now it's finally here!
Aw I know what you mean about missing particular teachers. My statistics teacher used to talk to me about Jane Eyre or movies and books we both liked.
Oh how'd the acrylics class go? I'm going to start taking classes too next week for figure and portrait drawing. And my summer is going great! It feels so nice to just relax and do things I never have time for during school. How's yours been?
