Oh. Mn. Thank you~ I'll strive to get better nyu *O*
I think you have a really good lineart, and that's a good thing when you're doing watercolor. or any medium i guess.. mn a friend told me that when you have good lineart, you don't have to be so good at coloring. But when you have both, it makes your work more striking *O* Hehe.

HELLO THERE CHIEE SAAAN O:
i admire your watercolor skillz OwQ
may i ask whut do you usually edit on the scanned paintings?
π: 0 β©: 1
chie-sieka In reply to greiyuu [2015-04-15 05:10:42 +0000 UTC]
Thank youuu <3
Well, first of all you must get a good scanner cuz I've used different scanners and some of them are bad and like, there are different ways on how to deal with them.
But I'm rambling. Hehe. First I scan them.
Then I try not to edit the settings on the scanner though you can if you want.
After that I open them in photoshop nyu.
I go to adjustments and levels - play with them. that's ctrl + L in windows
Then I go to color balance the play with them.Β ctrl + B in windows
The sliders are easy and you'll notice the changes as you slide it ^_^
I try to save a copy bellow to compare if I've made it too much.
Sometimes I go the extra mile and smooth out the details. Like remove the watercolor paper marks but that involves using brushes, selecting, cropping, transforming hehe.
I try to stick as close to the original unless I find something I really want to change so it'd be a digital/trad mix nyu.
If you want, I can make a tutorial in the future if it's difficult to follow hehe ^_^

hehe not really. I use canon pixma 3 in 1 hehe <3 It's awesome that you've improved so much in so little time ^O^ <3 I was inspired by mai-kuu. She's my bestfriend. she stopped doing watercolor kinda though... or isn't really practicing cuz she's into digital more now.Β Hehe. Yea the problem with watercolor is that it takes a lot of effort... cuz you have to be really careful and patient. *----* but I like how you can just sit in a coffee shop and paint. I like how it's so easy to bring hehe.
And you're very welcome nyu. The levels are there to make the colors more vibrant nyu but take care not to use it too much cuz it might look unnatural hehe. I've been warned that some people might say "eh, it only looks good because it's edited." So, try to make your paintings vibrant too hehe. It's amazing when the edited version looks close to the original nyu.
ooooh laovaan is really good nyu *O*

ohohoho mine's just the canon pixma series, nothing fancy....
i improved? O: and i checked out mai's art, pretty nooice,
but most of the time i prefer traditional since i half gave up on
digital art, it feels impossible to make art with a tablet :/
i thought it would be easy, guess it wasn't :/
i don't mind putting so much effort in art, it pays off in the end xD
and yes, it is definitely very portable P:
yeah, i do have my drawings go through PSE before posting,
the scanner eats up about 30-40% of the color TTv TT
yeah, i dont change too much on the levels, but your art seems better
so i questioned your secret xD
yes yes LAOVAAN OOO:

chie-sieka In reply to greiyuu [2015-04-16 13:46:02 +0000 UTC]
hehe yea. Mai-kuu's art is something. She's the reason why I stillll love watercolor up to nao. Maybe she'll get back to doing watercolor.
I think with digital, as much as any medium you're going to use, it's going to take time and practice. Hehe. I read this book... mn and it says there that you need as much as 10,000 hours to be actually good at something... and in those 10,000 hours you have to be making progress hehe.
hmn. the scanner does eat up the color, and you gotta learn how to retouch them in PS. Hmmn hehe. I think you should keep a stash of your work. and look back every few months to see what you need to improve on.
Youtube tutotials... tools like masking fluid nyu, hmn watercolor pencils, different watercolor brands XD if you can afford them, do try XD. the artists watercolors are a must have nyu... they're different... hehe XD or I just prefer them. try different types of paper too *O*

OMAIFLIPPINGGOURD O:<
YOUR A SAVIOURRRRR!
I WAS WONDERING WHAT THAT KIND OF PAINT WAS CALLED FOR AΒ
SUPER DUPER LONG TIME, AND YOU REVEALED IT TO ME JUST LIKE THAT!
OOOOOOOOOO: MASTTERRRRRR *bows*
masking fluid, that is the name O:
finally. i have no idea how to thank you O:<
well i just use the sakura paints, a good mediocre quality and i like the effects of it C:
as for paper, im poor. or more like i bought the wrong thing cuz it was wrapped.
but yeah, i will explore more once i get more of my items out of my box, i have
simply too many colored pencils to get rid off... P:

chie-sieka In reply to greiyuu [2015-04-18 04:28:48 +0000 UTC]
hehe, you should probably look for more tutorials online. Hmmn another tip was to use art tape, masking tape or so on the sides of your paper... or invisible tape hehe, make sure it's the tape that doesnt ruin the paper when you peel it off. You have to peel it off very carefully... and it leaves you a niceeee border nyu *O*
Are you using sakura koi or sakura paint? I find sakura koi really nice. I bought one for myself though ive never really gotten to use it much. The colors are intense though it doesnt give some effects that the artist watercolors can give. I think each watercolor paint just has their own personality kinda.
On that note ^_^ color pencils are nice when finishing though I normally dont do it. On my recent one, I tried to use watercolor pencils to line some of the edges... and I think it makes the edges more defined.
Sometimes I line the art too Like, after everything is done, to make the details stand out more, I take a regular pencil and line the edges that havent been properly covered by watercolor nyu.
*O* hehe. Though I find lining very tedious and I just prefer to color and be done with it nyu

greiyuu In reply to chie-sieka [2015-04-18 05:33:57 +0000 UTC]
same, i really dont like line arting, such a long process...
i use sakura mat watercolors. the koi is just a brush isnt it?
it actually isnt the best thing unless you are traveling P:
i use colored pencils quite often, i like neat art, so i likeΒ
things defined, but one thing that is tough for me is the dark
shadings because i am not confident with....
but practice practice and more practice!
my main goal as of now is to do a more dynamic and american
style of art instead of mainstream anime O:

Mn yeaaaahhh like more on realism then. Theres a sakura koi watercolor. The compact one should be around 20 dollars or less. And its really good. Am still not as confident with shading. Shadows. Lighting. Nyuuu so many things to learn and practice. Anyway iz Β 4am where im at. Ill go sleep nyu

greiyuu In reply to chie-sieka [2015-04-20 03:21:14 +0000 UTC]
no i dont like realism its just that i dont really have stable
lines so it tends to be tough for me...
i see... i never knew, i only have the brush O:
i know! shading man, shading!
okei, slep slep, you ned de rest xD

hehe i think I'm rested nao.
Hmmn we need a lot of practice I guess. A month ago, I was practicing daily nyu. *O*
Though as much as I improved in coloring, I still need to work on a lot of other things like, drawing in particular. I like coloring more though, it's much more relaxing than drawing hehe.

greiyuu In reply to chie-sieka [2015-04-22 12:03:03 +0000 UTC]
okei, good to hear O:
yes, practice is good and fun, sometimes tiresome...
I improved only a little in coloring sigh.
i love drawing, i get REAL LAZY to color...
but then again, a mix of both is good C:

chie-sieka In reply to greiyuu [2015-04-23 15:55:19 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. *o* I like coloring more than drawing though but there's a feeling of absolute amazement when you get down to the lineart and you say that. OMFG <3 i DID IT. Or something like that. It's a different feel when you know that before you color your work, you already know that it's going to be amazing nyu XD
^ _ ^
I just like coloring more because i like to see bright colors and that... the problem is I still find that my coloring is a little light. I rarely go for really dark colors. *o* Unless it's for finishing when I know that it needs real brightness. Since my medium is watercolor, controlling the brightness of the way you draw is kinda difficult hehe. *O* I'll be in a convention tomorrow as an artist. Is excited ^_^... and scared at the same time nyu

in the watercolor medium C:
the lineart yes, the shaking hands have succeeded O:<
