including snakes; I own a python. I have a horse
that thinks he's a dog named Digger. A pony
who knows everything named zippy and more
3 cats and two dogs.
I am currently a horse trainer for Bo Mann my

at community college so that I can transfer.
Art is what allows me to think, feel and survive
through the tough stuff that happens to me
and my family.
I think that is all I can say for now:)

So do you, are you also an art student?
I seriously love your lighting skills.

you wouldn't believe how glad I am to hear about the lighting skills (I'm working on that so hard. and colors and combinations etc.)
I'm not an art student unfortunately. I'm finishing a law degree this year, in a few months. when I tell people thay're very surprised. I'm also a falconer I had art as a hobby but I'd like to work as an artist/designer/whatever after I finish school so I'm trying to learn to draw better. I almost never practised and in the past few months I've drawn more pictures than in my whole life I think Β

Not an art student...
Yep didn't see that one coming. So then this is all just on your own talent. Dang. Seriously your colors and your light look amazing, believable. I am glad you practice is paying off it sure looks it to me.
Your a falconer! That is so cool. I work with horses as a trainer.Curious, what does a falconer do exactly? If you don't mind.

Slavky In reply to cincala [2014-02-08 20:01:35 +0000 UTC]
yea, I'm trying to study it by watching other peoples art and watching how they draw the stuff (currently I focus mainly on light and colors) and your art will be valuable to my studies muhahaha I like how you drew the bright highlights on the last two digital pieces, that's exactly how I do it too
and sure, I love talking falconry a falconer should train birds and help them to be in top condition to be able to hunt their prey. usually it's like this, but there are some falconers/trainers who train BOPs to fly on displays. They fly for food (they are rewarded) and in some way they take it as hunting I do mostly dispalys. I'd hunt but that's very complicated, mostly legally speaking and financially. you need a land permission, a permission to hunt, some practicing quarry which isn't cheap etc. But displays are fun too
sho what does a horse trainer do? do you train horses of other people as well?

cincala In reply to Slavky [2014-02-08 20:28:09 +0000 UTC]
uh oh I better put my best foot forward. First time trying that out and it didn't quite get what I wanted but still OK.
Woah. More to falconry than I thought. Still so cool, as a trainer I never thought birds as trainable.
Horse trianers do it all from starting the colt out with basics such as no running over the human and following with halter and leadrope to getting in the saddle and teaching the horse how to carry themselves properly depending on what discipline the owner wants, jumping, dressage, reigning, ranch work, trail riding, and so much more.
I specialize in Natural horsemanship skills, which is basically using the horses language to train them in the most natural way for them to understand as possible. It focuses mainly on building a partnership between you and your horse. Do you make and partnerships with the birds, a bond of some sort?
Actually pretty much all the horses I train are other peoples. My horse is the one that isn't trained, the shoemakers kids go barefoot.

That's interesting, is it something like this? www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8zywe⦠I really liked this video, the guy sure looked like he knew what he was doing and the horse went from not working to "I do as you say and I like it" in a few minutes!
Birds don't make bonds. It's a bit sad to say, every falconer hopes he has a special relationship with his hawk, but that just doesn't happen. They don't react on their names, rather on visual contact (glove, prey, lure) or a falconer's voice. They can't be domesticated, just trained and that even if they think the training is natural - you can't make them sit or roll over like parrots etc. There might be some very intelligent exceptions and of course ravens are like dogs but they're not raptors. So in general, no emotional bond and you can make them do just what it's natural to them They can learn a few tricks and they form a bond with falconer on a base they get food so they get used to seeking for the falconer, even calling for him. Imprinted birds - when raised only by humans, are a bit different, but still not too much. If a hawk forgets about a falconer, he will never remember him again and won't miss him. A bit cold in some way, but I love them anyway

Yeah it's something pretty close to that. I have had clinics with David funny you chose this video. I don't use a clicker though I prefer to just cluck with my tongue. Also most of what I train are horse like this one, where I am their last chance. Rehabilitations are my favorite.
No bond. That is sad, in my job bonds are so easy to make that I have to remind myself not to do so because the bond is supposed to be with the owner of the horse not me, but sometimesΒ the horse just won't allow you not to.
So how many do you work with at a time or are under your care, do you get favorites?
I work about 7 to 10 horses at a time and I definitely have my favorites though I try not to.

Slavky In reply to cincala [2014-02-08 21:58:02 +0000 UTC]
so you know the guy? how cool is that!
I liked fixing hawks as well, it's very rewarding when you see some aggressive animal with bad behaviour become a sweet little thing
Right now I've got just one hawk, Damon. I worked with countless birds over the years tho. I worked for a few falconry centers where I took care of birds and sometimes we switched them. I had favourites when I volunteered but that's hard to say our limit was about 3 birds per person, you couldn't possibly take a good care of more. considering the training per day per one is cca 2 hours, with 6 hours per day you're either crazy or you're cheating we all had school till 2pm and considering you can work with them just during the day... so when i had favourites I was working with them When I work somewhere fulltime I take care of at least 20 birds and then of course you have to have favourites
we train once a day, even feeding is just once a day usually.
7 to 10 horses at a time? do you have time for them all? how long is one session with a horse?
π: 0 β©: 1
cincala In reply to Slavky [2014-02-09 18:36:36 +0000 UTC]
I love the idea of a hawk named Damon.
3 a day, wish my load was that much. But 20 birds, dang that that is, I can't even imagine.
Yep right now I only have 8 and yes I do something with them all every day, well except sunday. But what I do and how much time I spend on them is all up to the horse. There are days when the horses are really compliant and it only takes 15 min or so to teach them and then there are days when the horse is obstinate and it can take 3 hours to get done what I need to.
Right now that horse is Kona a working class morgan whom for some reason insists he will not be trained.

Slavky In reply to cincala [2014-02-10 17:09:31 +0000 UTC]
when I have 20 birds to take care of and I work full time, it's okay, usually not all of them is flying, some of them have special training or they're sick and I have to treat them.... when it's in a centre it's somehow okay and I always have time for everything
that's similar to how it's with birds. some are smarter or have more luck to get it sooner
why would someone want their horse not to be trainedΒ Β
π: 0 β©: 1
cincala In reply to Slavky [2014-02-26 17:50:58 +0000 UTC]
Oh no I don't mean the owner doesn't want her horse trained she definitely does. It's the actual horse that is refusing the process.
20 Birds holy cow!
Sorry I have not replied in a while my life got scary complicated all of the sudden and I haven't be able to get on here.

Slavky In reply to cincala [2014-03-02 11:00:47 +0000 UTC]
Β Isee well in that case it's ok, at least she wants the horse to be trained, he will learn eventually
20 bird's nothing when you have a whole day and a nice timetable
no problem, I was really busy too, I jsut finished my thesis for my masters degree so.... it was hard and I'm glad it's done but it's not over yet, I've got some exams coming and then the final finals for the degree which is seriously hard... :/
If I may ask, what happened?

cincala In reply to Slavky [2014-03-03 22:50:45 +0000 UTC]
Wow! That sounds super scary. I just have portfolios due next week and now that sounds easy. I wish you luck with all that.
How much time does each bird take?
Umm what happened? Well... my brother who is 17 is seriously destroying my mothers life and his own. He is into all things bad and steals vehicles and money from friends and family, which has bankrupt my mom and I had to go home to help her out with my brother.
He has been in to drugs since 13 and slowly declining to the point he is psycho unstable and ya I could go on and on.

Slavky In reply to cincala [2014-03-22 11:02:50 +0000 UTC]
hey, sorry I was away for some time, I was studying for my exams which I passed today yay!
each bird takes about 2-5 hours when you start training it, after the bird knows what to do, it's just about 30 minutes depending on how much time you want to spend with the bird. I like to train my Damon for about 2-3 hours a day because he's the only one I have
oh I see! That's sad about your brother, did he try a rehab or a therapist? I know this is so complex, in school we had countless cases in lessons like this (I study law) and I know it's hard to fix. Does he want to change it?

Sorry my life has been hell lately and I have not had time to do or talk to much of anyone.
Everything is most definitely not alright, but that seems to be my life right now my brother is seeing to that.
And I miss you too, a lot, I miss all of you in that crazy crowd of yours, Haley as well.
How is she by the way how are you I hope everything is going well.

Just happy that you're alive! The gang's been asking about you, and I was all like, "I don't know. She fell off the face of the earth... but she'll come back again."
If you need anything, Kevin and the gang are more than happy to help if you need it!
Hales could be better, but you should talk to her if you want specifics.
I'm going to graduate early (major in Art, minor in English), looking at a zoo internship, and possibly going for a masters in game design at the Art Academy... After graduation stuff is all still up in the air, but I'm ruminating.

Yeah me too if you can call what I am living.
I really do miss the gang My life is just been going downhill.
Haha.. Ya I did fall off the face of the planet didn't I.
My brother has just been getting worse, you remember the stuff I would talk about at school don't you? The dishes and chairs he would throw at me well times that by ten. The cops have had to come get him twice!
Graduating early good for you I am so proud and happy for you and a Zoo internship that sounds like so much fun!
Art academy huh well ya that's the way to go. I just have a personal vendetta against them.
I personally have had to put school on the back burner again.
I miss you sorry I haven't been in touch I am so lucky to have a friend who gets it when it comes to my disappearances.

Sorry to hear that. :'-(
I wish I could wave a magic wand to make everything better... without some horrible twist that always happens in books/movies...
don't worry about keeping in touch, I know you'll show up when you can. <3
IΒ don't particularly like the Academy either, but they are pretty much top dog if you need a degree in video game design... like I said, not sure that either academy or zoo will happen... I'm reaching the end of my current long term goals that I've had since high school, so I need to figure out what I need to do and what I want to do... a little uneasy since this is the first time I don't have a back up for anything at the moment... I don't know. I'll figure it out when I get there I suppose.
