Hi. I read your journal .... because I was taught never to talk to strangers. I think there are a number of reasons people don't talk anymore. We live in the world of texting for one thing - people are incapable of talking and are too caught up in their own business to even want to. I think a lot of people are just self absorbed. We live in a society that has little to no trust - people don't trust one another, and we treat one another poorly for the most part because of it. We don't have trust because none of us are alike, popular media drives us to walk on egg shells around people who aren't like us and I think people get tired of pretending. We have an inherent right to dislike anyone we choose for any reason we choose and no one has the right to not be offended. Most of us know this, most of us have no desire to offend people, and yet we still can't have a conversation. Politics divide this nation, religion divides this nation, "tolerance" divides this nation. Our fast paced society and pressure to fit the mold keep us preoccupied and we spend more time trying to make ends meet than living and enjoying life with our friends. Consumerism distracts us from what's really important in life, giving us products we don't need, most of which further distract us, divide us, and consume us. All the lies called "social media" are the exact opposite of social and are mainly intended to spy on us, advertise to us and control us. You'll be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't have a facebook account (and btw, you just met one - I don't use facebook) and to me that is proof of what I'm talking about. It's supposed to connect people but really it just gives us an excuse not to talk to one another, generates fictional Hollywood drama in regular people's lives, and keeps people attached to their cell phones. I theorize that people are in fact NOT social creatures. We like people who are like us, we like ourselves, we like to socialize with people who understand us, who share our values, who don't want to change us, prove us wrong, argue with us. Humans have been killing one another for hundreds of thousands of years because of this one simple truth and we continue to do it today. Those who feel they are the most enlightened seek to change or destroy those who aren't. Regardless of right or wrong, I think it's reality. Regardless of how enlightened we are, in the US we are becoming less and less alike and we may not kill one another over it, but we have no obligation to "get along". And we don't get along. In fact, some enjoy the conflict - the news media is made up of professional conflict obsession. Our government profits from the conflict and works each day to continue making it happen. The more we cater to people who feel offended, the more the rest of us are forced by law to change who we are, to change human and animal nature in the name of civil rights, tolerance, progress. We're left confused, distracted, and consumed by things that aren't really important and in the end we're left unable to have simple interactions with other people. We chase the lie to fit the mold, lose our humanity and live unfulfilled lives. In the immortal words of George Carlin, they call it the American dream because you have to be asleep to believe it.

So you wanted a conversation, well there is a lot of stuff right there that a lot of people should be talking about in my opinion. I'd say a lot of people don't want to have a conversation because of all these things, chances are you will discover something you don't agree on and because we've been trained to pick sides, we can't possibly be friends if we don't agree on everything.

You have a point there. And I don't have Facebook either, because I don't need it. I hate when people say "I have Facebook because he/she has it.." such a poor excuse. I understand what you say here.

hahaha, yep. I used it for work stuff before but that's it. The reason I have the google stuff is because I had a google e-mail address in the frickin 90s .... had it for like over 15 years. Google just started adding all this crap so I have it. What do you use for e-mail? All of them have messenger services I think right?
