Didn't use a tripod on the high-speed shots except for the water droplets... everything else that's high-speed (basketball, bike race, motorcycles, tennis, baseball, etc.) is hand-held

Seriously? I guess that makes sense. You must have some pretty steady hands. I can't even get shots of kids to come out that clear in a free hand situation. And they really don't move that fast.

I'm not from Athens, GA per say, but I spent the past 5 years there at the University of Georgia. I just graduated this past May, so I moved back in Atlanta. Are you still in Chattanooga?

I will say, up until I saw your gallery, I used to think that the south really didn't have much to offer as far as photography went. But after seeing your shots of North Carolina, Tennessee, and Louisiana, my opinion has changed.

As for the 40D... may it rest in peace. It went down at a wedding I was shooting... Luckily I had bought the service plan from Best Buy when I bought the camera and I took it into the Geek Squad. They called me and told me that Canon was withholding the parts to fix the camera so they gave me the purchase price of the 40D towards the purchase of my new 7D.

I've got a friend that has the 5DMkII and I've shot with it extensively and it is one sweet camera. I was thinking about buying the 5DMkII to compliment the crop-sensor 7D, but I may hold out until the 5DMkIII comes out because I THINK they will add the 7D's new viewfinder with the LCD overlay and new autofocus system to the equation... and HOPEFULLY they will up the framerate, add a pop-up flash with the wireless flash commander, even better weather sealing. I say this because they need to up the ante to compete with some of the specs of the D700 or whatever Nikon releases as its successor, not that the 5DMkII is hurting from the D700 but just to bring Canon back to total domination of the market segment they created (the small bodied full frame D-SLR).

As for the water shots... you really don't have to have patience, just the right set up. You have to have an SLR, an external flash, and the ability to trigger flash wirelessly. You get a bag full of water and hang it above a bowl or pan or something filled with water and poke a hole in the bag and let it drip into the container below. You put the flash off to the left or right side of the camera and fire away. The flash and the framerate are what stops the motion of the water drop and then you have yourself a nice water drop picture!

Whoa thanks so much for the compliments buddy! Tis much appreciated! And to answer your question, no, as of a month ago, I'm no longer in Chatt... I packed up and moved to Denver, CO! haha... I like to move all over and I work in hotels so it allows me to do that pretty well... some of the best years of my life were in New Orleans... Not only cause of the party scene, but the fact that the ENTIRE city is breathtaking - if your into the wrought iron, lush gardens, low sprawling trees and 200 y/o architecture thing haha.

Dang, I hate to hear that about the 40D, but its great to hear about the sweet opportunity for upgrade! Man that rocks... Honestly since moving to Denver, my desk overlooks the mountains and everyday I see the sunrise over the rockies and think to myself that I may not be able to hold out to save up for the 5DmkII - and the 7D looks juicier everyday! HAHA! And I completely agree with ya on the 5D's makeup... its just KILLING me not having a camera right now!! AAAHHHGGG#$@&$*(*%!!! lol.

Wow, good to know on the watershot thing! I'll def be giving it a try as soon as I get the new gear... I've seen a lot of waterdrop shots here on dA, but when I saw yours... they were particularly crisp and well composed, some of the best I've seen!

I'll actually be back in the 'Noog in may for a week, if you have a chance come up for a few days we can hit up some North Carolina... my absolute FAVORITE area in the south to shoot. weeeellll... ok, mabey next to NOLA. but the waterfalls in NC are ridiculous in May.

I wanted to get up to Asheville this year to go see the Biltmore and take photos of all of the Christmas decor since the last time I went I was about 14. Guess I'll have to go next year though.
