# About me
My love for fine art didn’t present itself until I was 5 years old and I started drawing comic strip characters in pencil. Later in my 20’s after severing in the Marines my drawings centered on life around me; the drawings were of people and animals of love ones and family and freinds in soft pastels. Now at the age of 47 , I instruct in the arts of pencil and soft pastels. When I first started drawing I was that kid in class that could always draw better than the rest of the class. So I used that to my advantage by drawing projects every chance I got; which I would always get an “A” for my grade and to get the girls (girls always liked boys that could draw).
When I joined the Marines at 18 I took a hiatus from drawing all together but around five years after getting out of the service while walking through the mall I saw this elderly gentlemen drawing portraits using pastels and I remember saying to myself, I can do that, so after talking to him for over an hour … he decided to let me take one of his photos home to see what I could do and immediately I went out and bought an eight piece pastel set and tried my hand at some pastel. After a few hours of messing around I knew that I had bitten off more than I could chew, so the next day I returned back to the mall returned the picture and told the gentlemen that I couldn’t do it and he replied just keep practicing and you’ll get it. So I kept practicing and I did get better.
After a few months of working with pastel and starting to find my groove and I made the decision to get good at pastel, move to water color, and venture into acrylics until finally mastering oils. Everything is going as planned except for the fact that after some 20 plus years and I’m still trying to master pastels.
Finally I have accepted the fact that I may never move on to water color or any other medium and you know what, I’m fine with this and you should too, so just enjoy the moment and whatever medium you choose to work in.
