I’m very much looking forward to seeing each new page of your comic in Our Town, or Stalliongrad as I like to call it, as it comes out. You’d mentioned somewhere that you were fascinated with the inner workings of cults. I too have a morbid fascination with real world darkness, including cults. Is there any kind of statement or commentary you might be trying to make with this? Given the current state of affairs in today’s world, if you wanted to, you easily could.

Writing this comic isn't so much me making a personal statement as me trying to explore the ideas I find interesting for myself. "Write what you know" is a common phrase of advice, but I prefer to write what I'm trying to figure out for myself.
What fascinates me about cults isn't really the morbidity aspect of them - to be sure, so many cults have ended with mass deaths, like Jonestown, Heaven's Gate, the Branch Davidians etc - but the idea so many cults try to create of a perfect world. So many communities have tried to create a perfect world with no class divisions, no crime, etc, and either fall short of their goals or end in mass tragedy.
Everyone likes to think that people who join cults are mindless sheep, but I know that I am... exactly the type of person who would join a cult. I'm profoundly lonely and unhappy with my life and the things I feel unhappy about are things I can't change, inherent in the way our society is structured. I often think about what an ideal community would be like, or just a completely different way of living - and what it would take to reach that point as a society.
So I'm not sure if I answered your question, but these are still things I'm trying to figure out as this story shapes and progresses in my mind, and I hope everyone reading it enjoys the journey
