i was looking back on some of my older work and came across a wonderful conversation with someone about the pros and cons of 'fluff' and hot chocolate.
are you still around - or am i whistling in the wind?

I'm still around! (Though I'm definitely not as active as I used to be.)

I'm doing pretty well. I started college this year, so life has been quite busy and full of transitions, but everything is going nicely. How are you doing?

you are studying art?
things are going well - tattooing too much - but, i'm not complaining.

Oh, hey!

Great gallery! I enjoyed our mini Paolini discussion. :'D

crownmarionette In reply to MilesTailsPrower-007 [2008-10-20 00:31:56 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!
haha, I enjoyed it too. And it inspired me to re-locate the books, and, ergo, I have discovered even more reasons why they disgust me. Paolini sounds pretentious and writes like a desperate child trying to prove that he has worth. He employs ridiculous words to get his point across, whereas simpler words would have worked in a more eloquent manner. And so on.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MilesTailsPrower-007 In reply to crownmarionette [2008-10-20 02:32:24 +0000 UTC]

You win the internet.

That was what I thought of it, too. His metaphors are terrible, also. It sounds like he's trying way too hard to compare things poetically.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

crownmarionette In reply to MilesTailsPrower-007 [2008-10-20 03:18:20 +0000 UTC]

haha. Sure.

It's so true. I love the word "ameliorate" but when I saw it employed in his novels, I just winced. Not to mention, I wanted to shoot Paolini after seeing "bivouac" for the millionth time during camping scenes. It's irritating enough running to the glossary of the book every time he uses a different language. I greatly dislike having to use a dictionary for words that never appear in my life. He's certainly not using large words to cut down on the number of his words in his novel -- tighter editing could have been possible and achieved the same end.

Yeah. I can't express my contempt for his metaphors. Or poetry. I just have to skim through the lyrical stuff or else risk gagging.

Maybe in years he will improve. Unfortunately, having his first novel top bestsellers lists probably inflated his ego. I only hope that he has the sense to be able to look back, reassess himself, and admit that his writing... ah... was lacking.

MilesTailsPrower-007 In reply to crownmarionette [2008-10-27 14:49:25 +0000 UTC]

Oh, it gets worse, since he considers his first one his "practice book". I don't know; I found that somewhat insulting. It feels like he's saying that it wasn't a real book, but it was still, y'know, acceptable as publishing material. Also, any interview involving him goes from being about writing to being a next-book promo after the first question.

I totally ignore the exchanges of dialogue in his language. They're ridiculous. Rather than doing a whole little greeting scene like that, why not just say "They briefly exchanged greetings in " and be done with it? D:

And oh my god, sorry for spamming up your page with all this. X'D

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

crownmarionette In reply to MilesTailsPrower-007 [2008-10-27 21:15:33 +0000 UTC]

Really? No way. I definitely find it insulting. When you go publish a work, then that work should be ready to be published. It shouldn't be a practice round.

haha. Ditto. I zone out while reading his books. Quite predicable to say the least.

It's perfectly okay! I don't mind at all.

Aw! Thank you! I'm happy that you like the variety of things I submit - I've had a couple of people who get angry cuz they watch me for cosplay, and I'll do a bunch of other, random things, before submitting more cosplay

I'm glad to know everyone isn't like that!

You're welcome!

That's so unfair in my opinion. I don't believe that anyone needs to limit themselves to a particular area or should have to put up with people who want them to do as much. Especially with art when you have so many possibilities. Really, I find it impossible to stick with one thing, even if I personally am not that wonderful with some of the areas I explore.

Part of watching someone is respecting them as artists in whatever they undertake, even if you happen to dislike certain submissions. And in that case, at the least, people should keep their complaints to themselves.

But yeah, I'm definitely looking forward to anything you happen to submit~

hey hey you!

I haven't gotten my schedule. Was yours sent to you or did you go pick it up? Because I really want to know what I have

but I'm pretty sure Chinny told me she got Ms. Brock on her schedule as well, so I'm sure it was just a mistake (I hope...)

HOW WAS BOTSWANA!?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

crownmarionette In reply to reverendumri [2008-08-20 16:51:00 +0000 UTC]

Hiiiii~

I got my counselor to email mine to me before I left for Botswana. But they should arrive in the mail soon.

Well, Josh Ackerman apparently has Mrs. Brock as well. That's also what it said on my schedule. I'm horribly confused. The entire PAVE department seems a little messed up -- I have a friend in theater and apparently she might not even have a PAVE class. I have no idea what's going on, but I really was looking forward to another year with Ms. McCaul.

Botswana was epic! It was the most amazing experience I have ever had. Not only was it fascinating, I got to learn so freaking much about other people, and so on.

I hate the new dA system, I just realized you sent me this message -.-

So I'm going to guess everyone got Mrs. Brock...but we definitely have Ms. McCaul. I mean, Mrs. Brock is supposed to take the freshman and we're supposed to have Ms. McCaul with the seniors. I really hope so, anyways.

Botswana sounds amazing. I'm actually really glad you had such a great time. I was going to write you sometime through but I wasn't sure when you were coming back/ if I had enough time.

I'm assuming you went with a program?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

crownmarionette In reply to reverendumri [2008-08-23 16:01:46 +0000 UTC]

Aww. I really like this new system. I think it's easier to use.

I have no idea. Either way, I suppose I'm happy. I am going to be doing an Independent Study with Mrs. Brock, so I was hoping for Ms. McCaul for PAVE.

It was so depressing to return home. I was in an emotional slump for days and only unpacked this week. It was such a beautiful country and had so many good ideas that I would love for the United States to embrace in terms of race relations and even the environment (even though they do burn everything which is so nasty).

Haha, that's okay. Apparently a bunch of my friends did write, but I never got the letters!

Yes, I was with the Experiment in International Living. Which I'd totally recommend to anyone.

I got my schedule today and it says Pave 3, Ms. McCaul. I think all the kids who got their schedules early will have Mrs. Brock on the list, but we're probably all with Ms. McCaul still

Awww, I've seen a bunch of the photos! It looks like an amazing time.

Did you stay with families by yourself at some point, or where you always with your group?

AND i'll see you soon in school!
